Is this a normal behavior of the radio in SSB Modes?

deaf on the uk tv audio frequencies "using a discone" Kenwood must
assume it receives there as they list the frequncies in the manual. 250-
350mhz am hopeless. Also the hf frequencies using a 20ft wire
antenna`hopeless with int ant off. MW wave using the in built ferrite
not bad and the vhf air except below 118mhz am.
Any body in the UK comment please?

TH-F7E, VFO B deaf on VHF

Hi!

I already posted this problem before and thought is was explained by
interference from VFO A. But now I'm running into the same problem again
and it's getting weirder...

Setting: TH-F7E, MARS/CAP modded by dealer, single VFO mode
Problem: when receiving a 163.x MHZ VHF frequency on VFO A, I get an S9
reading. However, the same frequency only comes in on VFO B just over
the background noise, say S1 or S2 max. On UHF there is no dramatic
difference.

If VFO A was deaf outside the amateur bands, that would be logical, but
the situation is the opposite.

I read the article at
http://article.gmane.org/gmane.recreation.radio.hardware.kenwood.th-f7e/21
where this occurred on UHF, but that affected BOTH VFO's. It was caused
by using high power at 446MHz.

Can anyone explain this? Could this be caused by Tx on VHF with high
power? I use my F7E as a scanner also, using both VFO's at the same time
(to compensate for the lousy scanrate), and since the HT is on my belt I
could have triggered the PTT but

Are the mods on the mic speaker plugs to allow the plugs to go further

Hello

Are you finding particular problems with the F7E or are you just
itching for a new toy? The F7e does have a few minor documented
problems like the charge socket failing and sometimes the antenna
socket. Some have quiet audio but a mic or a case mod sorts that out
but thats about it. If you have none of these then I don't think
there is a newer better model.

Kenwood don't make one, unless you want the APRS of the D7 and that
had more bugs than the F7 ever did.

I don't suppose receiver performance has improved much since its
design and the ergonomics are as good as anything else that size.

You have scanner style coverage plus HF, shortwave and VHF broadcast.
all mode receive, built in LW antenna, all the tone formats you could
want and fairly good battery life. Its tough as old boots, light

The SSB and CW feature of the TH7-E make this radio a keeper, but
I have a speaker problem and need some help fixing it.
Does anyone else have a tinny speaker sound on their TH-F7E.
I've noticed how mellow the sound on my Yaesu VX-5 handheld is
compared to the TH-F7E. It's like a bad static day on the TH-F7E
compared to a no background static day on the VX-5. The TH-7E sound
is like a car radio with the treble at max and the bass off.
Hopefully someone will know how to adjust something to bring in
more bass and less treble.
Recently I was an official at a bike race out ten miles on a
country road from the base and the TH7-E was not up to the task
even with a hot VHF repeater. Later back home I noticed the
difference even more pronounced comparing the sound of an FM radio
station on the two radios.
Somebody please tell me how to adjust something to fix this. I've
already tried an antenna tuner and external speaker without much
improvement.

But I want 27.125, 27.135, 27.145 etc.

Also the european PMR band has such an offset.

My old AOR8000 scanner had such an offset button. Where is it on the

Hi!

Since it looks like the standard TH-F7E antenna is poorly tuned for the
HAM bands, I'm thinking of buying a Diamond SRH-519. This one seems much
better tuned at 145 and 435 MHz (if the reviews at eham.net are correct).

But I also use the TH-F7E outside the HAM bands (with permission
ofcourse). And for listening to FM radio and more.

Is the SRH 519 wide enough to use on a MARS/CAP enabled TH-F7E? And how
wel suited is the antenna for RX on 10MHz-1200MHz?

But the manual doesn't show audio being available when setting menu 9

Can anyone clarify on this matter?

Can I use the same setup when menu 9 is set to TNC/9600bps? That way I
get audio directly off the discriminator.
