96 Tank Cleaning

<pre>I am removing my tank ('69 96) tomorrow as my fuel line has been clogged and there is crud in my fuel. I am not sure about the extent of rust in my tank but I would guess that there is some. I know there was a thread a while ago on this process but it seems to be a few years ago and I figured I would ask again since more products have come out since then.

I have heard of using nuts and bolts, acetone, other acids, vinegar ect.

I also am considering using the POR-15 fuel tank kit, even though the process is around a week long.

Anyone have much experience with cleaning tanks? Would love to be able to clean it and get it ready for installation fairly inexpensively, but mainly just want opinions and experience as I have none.

I think with the price of the car and repairs (I can do the repairs here at the shop) you could have a nice Black '93 Turbo for ~ around ~ $25,000. send me an E-mail and we'll talk !

Here's a "barn find" P1800ES (from 1972/73) that actually is already outside the barn. We drove by it a couple hours ago and I just had to make a U-turn and go back for photos. Anyone wanting slightly more info, please contact me off list. It's located somewhere on US 26 between Riverton and Casper.

Removing glass from side mirrors [2 Attachments]

<pre>I'm going to get my mirrors rechromed, but to do that I need to remove the
glass from the mirror housing. Car is a 1968 96, V4, with round mirrors.
The chrome guy said if I heat up the housing, the glue will melt, and the
mirror glass will come out of the housing. I hit the housing with a hot
air gun, and put a suction cup on the glass so I could pull it out of the
housing, but no go. The glue melted, and I can spin the glass in the
housing, but the inner diameter of the housing is slightly smaller than the
outer diameter of the glass. I know I could just break the glass, but I
have two mirrors with perfectly good glass and was hoping to reuse them in
the mirrors that I end up getting rechromed. I wonder how someone got the
glass in there in the first place.... Even though you all know what a
mirror looks like, I attached two photos for those older guys like me who
might have trouble remembering... Thanks, Dave

<pre>I'm painting my V4. I picked up a can of Duplicolor engine paint and the Napa guy said I didn't need primer – but now I'm nervous that the paint won't stick. I've stripped the timing gear covers and oil pan to bare metal – is it okay to apply engine paint in that condition or do I need a primer? Same question for the aluminum transmission cover (also stripped) and the bare, hot-tanked block.

*TRAFFIC ADVISORY
*On Thursday, May 9 a major traffic accident involving a tractor trailer
occurred in Harrisburg. The accident and subsequent fire has damaged some
major roadways. The biggest concern at this time is I-81 between the 81/83
split just north of the city and at least the Susquehanna River. PennDOT
hopes I-81 will re-open tomorrow (Tuesday, 5/14). In the meanwhile, we
recommend you check your route to see if this will impact your current
travel plans. Detours are in place and the best way for you to see your
options is to visitwww.CarlisleEvents.com &lt;http://www.carlisleevents.com/&gt;.
On the home page and on Facebook, updates are made available as soon as
possible.
