The cacertificates (aka CSWcacertificates) listed here -&gt; http://www.opencsw.org/get-it/packages/ Is not the CSWcacertificates found here -&gt; http://mirror.opencsw.org/opencsw/testing as indicated by the text (“This is the list of Solaris software packages in our 'current' branch”) at the top of http://www.opencsw.org/get-it/packages/. That version is found here -&gt; http://mirror.opencsw.org/opencsw/unstable

If you need a Go Daddy CA it is in "unstable" only.

After spending some time poking around www.opencsw.org it is not clear to me what (or if) there is a real plan for managing/naming repositories/mirrors but I think we could set a better example.

have a good weekend,

<pre>Hi,

i've just installed CSWmysl5 5.0.96,REV=2012.03.24 on solaris 10/sparc
and i'm wondering about the missing my.cnf file. i don't even have the
directory /opt/csw/mysql5.

on a different machine running version 5.0.87 i have everything in the
usual place. i could copy the my.cnf file from that machine and adapt it
to the new machine. so my first question would be: what's the base
directory for version 5.0.96?

[mysqld]
basedir         = /opt/csw/mysql5
datadir         = /var/opt/csw/mysql5
port            = 3306

<pre>Hello.

   My system is Solaris 11 (11/11) [1]. I wish to install CSWsyslog_ng.
"pkgutil" shows that it would install version 3.0.5,REV=2010.02.27 (over 2
years old) [2], but the OpenCSW online package index shows that it should
install 3.2.5,REV=2012.03.19 (yeah!) [3]

I've tried both "testing" and "unstable". I've refreshed my catalog
several times. What am I missing? How do I get OpenCSW to give me the
more recent syslog_ng?

   Thank you for your time.

<pre>Hello everyone,

Does anyone still use Firefox from OpenCSW on Solaris 9? We are
currently removing unused / not useful packages from the catalog and
if no one uses it, we'll drop it.* We expect that most Solaris desktop
users would have already migrated to Solaris 10, 11 or OpenSolaris,
and it's rather unlikely that someone depends on Firefox on Solaris 9.
We wanted to check that with you though. If you want Firefox for
Solaris 9 to stay, speak up!

Maciej

<pre>Hello everyone,

The Wintercamp 2011 is coming up. It's not winter and it's not 2011,
but this is how we need to name our meetings to keep backward
compatibility. Solaris sysadmins know what we're talking about.

To those who don't know what OpenCSW camps are - they are project
summits held twice a year. We've had a number of these:

http://wiki.opencsw.org/camps

This time around, we're meeting in Bratislava. One of the topics
discussed will be the IPS package catalog strategy.

The meetings will be held from 10:00 CEST until 19:00 CEST with a
lunch break. We'll set up a G+ hangout and a ustream live feed. We'll
post links when the feeds are set up. We'll be also watching the
#opencsw channel on Freenode for any questions or comments.

Windows 7 talking to samba version 3.0.23 on my Sun Sparc machine. I have
a couple of Windows XP machines that currently communicate just fine with

Things I have done so far:

    * Added LmCompatibilityLevel == 1 to the Win7 Registry

    * Tried adding the following to smb.conf:

    client lanman auth = no
client NTLMv2 = yes
client plaintext = no
lanman auth = no
ntlm auth = yes

None of this has had any effect. When I try to access the samba server
with:

\\&lt;servername&gt;

it reports: "The specified server cannot perform the required operation"

However, this works just fine from the XP machines.

I spent a full day just getting Win7 to (sort of) network with Win XP, and
now I've spent another day working on this samba problem with no results!
Does anyone have any experience with this and can offer a suggestion as to

<pre>
Hi All,

I just made a switch to the atom feeds for OpenCSW. Instead of
individual catalog/arch/release atom feeds, there are now whole
catalog feeds that incorporate the changes across everything we call
'unstable' or 'dublin.'

You can subscribe to the feeds from the links here:
http://www.opencsw.org/feeds.

In the fairly near future we'll also be re-instating the
newpkgs-ZwoEplunGu0I44EcYr5p3di2O/JbrIOy&lt; at &gt;public.gmane.org mailings for those that prefer a weekly
digest of catalog changes that way.

Thanks

i was wondering which directories do i have to backup in case i want to
switch back to older versions of packeges.

i want to update several opencsw packeges including mysql, perl and php.
before that i would like to have a backup which i can easely restore in
case something will not work as expected. i don't want to backup the
whole system but only the needed directories.

i guess i'll be ok backing up the following directories.
   /opt/csw
   /etc/opt/csw
   /var/opt/csw

is there anything else to conider?

ruby 1.8 optimization choice

<pre>
Hi All,

I'm looking at better optimizing ruby 1.8 and seemingly the way to do that
is to drop support for libpthread. Ruby 1.8 uses green threads and
doesn't actually leverage kernel threads so this seems like an easy
choice...unfortunately, turning off the support can impact libraries
such a tcl/tk.

So the question is: Is anyone using libraries such as tcl/tk from
ruby (eg: CSWruby18-tk)? Personally, I'm happy to drop it in order to
gain better performance but I'd rather not do so if sites are
depending on it.

Let me know.

(Also, I've picked up ruby 1.9 again and will hopefully have something
useful in the near future.)

Thanks
-Ben

MySQL 5.5 available for testing

<pre>Hello OpenCSW users,

I've built a set of MySQL 5.5 packages and placed them in the
experimental catalog. The package cannot coexist with the current
MySQL 5.0 package, it's either-or. I've smoke-tested it: it installs,
initializes the database and starts up successfully. You can install
it with pkgutil:

pkgutil -t http://buildfarm.opencsw.org/experimental.html#mysql-5.5 \
-y -i mysql5

MySQL 5.5 will most likely not be included in the dublin release, so
if you are getting packages from testing/current/dublin, you won't get
5.5 for some time. If you're running the unstable release, you should
get it after we release dublin and start pushing new versions of
packages to unstable. Until then, please fetch the package from the
experimental catalog.

Feedback is greatly appreciated!

Update to the testing / dublin / current catalog

<pre>Hello everyone,

You probably have noticed, that the testing / dublin / current catalog
has not been receiving updates for some time now. All the work and
churn has been confined to the unstable catalog, saving you hassle
with the constant stream of updates. However, since the works are
progressing at the normal pace, the testing / dublin / current catalog
(Solaris 9 and up) will soon get a large, accumulated update.

The update migrates all updated packages from the unstable catalog to
testing / dublin. If you want additional safety during the upgrade,
you can temporarily switch one of your machines to the unstable
catalog and run pkgutil -y -u. If everything goes well, you can update
the other machines using the dublin catalog. To learn more about the
unstable and testing catalogs, you can read this news item:
http://www.opencsw.org/2012/01/which-catalog-should-i-use/

We expect upgrades to go smoothly, but in case of any problems, don't
hesitate to contact us: either here, or at #opencsw on Freenode.

<pre>Hi, I just installed mysql5 using opencsw's pkgutil.

Mysql is running but I don't know where my.cnf for this installation.
I'd like to add log=/var/opt/csw/mysql5/mysql.log into it to log sql
queries and restart it. Can someone please help?
