You will found Flashboot at Github: https://github.com/openbsd/flashboot

Prebuild bineries will be available within the next couple of days.

We need people to test some of the builds for example WRAP12, SOEKRIS4501
and
PCENGINES kernel.

<pre>Hi

I have committed several changes to kernel configurations for Soekris,
WRAP12, PCEngines and COMMELL-LE564 to make Flashboot work on OpenBSD
5.0. We are also not using svnd any more since it has been integrated
to vnd

Since I only have Soekris 4801 and there need to be more testing on
other platforms to verify that it work as expected. Please test and
report back to the list.

I will put binaries on github (https://github.com/openbsd/flashboot)
to night and the downloads will be available from the wiki page.

<pre>Hi.

I just added a new script to build image from OpenBSD install49.iso to
make a bootable USB installation pen drive.

The script is called build-usbinstallimage.sh

If any one could test the script I would be very happy. I have tested
it with both i386 and amd64 and it's possible to boot and install from
a usb stick. No more need to burn cd just for installations =)

There is how ever some kind of problem with OpenBSD own installation
script because it can't find the path to the files automatic since its
not from a CD. The path mounts upon question and the installation
proceeds without any problem.

load kernels as 16Mb
- will avoid isadma problems
- need to modify kernel and boot loader
[/snip]

Does any one has the status of this? I have not spent a single thought
about this during my work since all my test has worked and we are now
building a kernel that are 48 Mb in size and I have not found a single
downside yet and I have tested Flashboot on Soekris 4801, Virtual Box,
misc laptops and custom made computers. They all boot and works as
expected.

Maybe never versions of the boot loader that we are using today don't
have this limit and this TODO is some kind of forgotten note that just
should be deleted?

I need some help with a problem.

The issue can be found here: https://github.com/openbsd/flashboot/issues/9

It's about booting Flashboot on a USB stick with a computer with a
SSD. Flashboot assumes that the USB stick has device sd0 but that
device is in fact the ssd drive.

Does any one have any idea how to solve this?

How much do you store in the ramdisk kernel? - Flashboot for OpenBSD 4.9 on the way

<pre>Hi

I'm modifying Flashboot for OpenBSD 4.9 from resent changes made by
Rickard Dahlstrand (automated download of source, patching and chroot)
and hints from James Records post
(http://www.mail-archive.com/flashboot&lt; at &gt;mindrot.org/msg00149.html).

One thing that will be different is the size of the ramdisk kernel and
it will be significant bigger since and the minimal build will be
approximate 38Mb uncompressed.

My question to you all is how much config files do you store in kernel
and how much free space do you need?

It's still possible to customize it but it would be great to have the
standard sizes some what accurate.

Hi List,

Sorry to bother you all again so soon. But I'm not quite where I want to be

The RAMDRIVE kernel I succesfully build doesn't have support for pf and

<pre>Dear List,

My home firewall runs on an Alix system with a flashboot OpenBSD 4.6. I
haven't upgraded since and I thought now with the release of 4.9 it made
sence to build a new flashboot.

I installed a virtualbox with 4.9; downloaded the latest flashboot scripts

worked for me with 4.6 without problems. But now the building seams to fail
on "libstdc++-v3"

Has anyone succesfully build a 4.9 FlashBoot image? Is this still possible?

go last week and failed miserably. Normally I just run build-release, and
then build-kernel and all is good but with 4.8 and the gcc4 changes I've hit
a wall that looks very similar to this:

Just wondering if anyone else out there has attempted this yet?

I'm going to take a look at it tonight and see if I can get a 4.8 version of
flashboot working at all. I will update as soon as I have some info.

thanks,
James.

New binary release of Flashboot 4.7 + a warning!

<pre>Hi,

First of all, sorry for the lack of updates the last few versions. There are two reasons. The first is that we found a bootloader-issue that caused kernel-only updates from 4.3 to fail while booting, this is now handled (see below). The second reason is life, it keep getting in the way of more important stuff. ;)

The bootloader issue is rather serious and means that you can't just upload a new kernel to your pre-4.4 boxes. instead you need to update the bootloader before you do the upgrade. Failure to follow this advice will render your device unable to boot the new kernel. You have been warned!

However, we have packed everything together in a nice tgz and made some easy to follow instructions, they can be downloaded here http://www.tilde.se/flashboot/download/4.7/mdec.tgz

As usual all the binary images are available at http://www.tilde.se/flashboot/

Kind Regards, Rickard.

PS. Also, I have a new web-server now that should stay up, sorry for that.
