Hi,

I am really sorry to bother everyone with this, but I may have really
messed things up. Anyway, I need a kernel on my amiga partition to make it
boot now. I am not sure what is the best way to get it there. I would be
willing to pay someone to put a NetBSD 5.2 or newer kernel on an amiga
formated floppy and send it to me.

Thanks,

Possible problem with accessing DVDs larger than 4GB

Hi,

I have been testing the latest beta versions of the WinUAE Amiga emulator
with several versions of NetBSD. That's shown up a few bugs in WinUAE's
SCSI and MMU emulation which have been fixed. Hopefully the next release
should be useful for testing NetBSD/amiga with emulated 68030/040/060.
(WinUAE works mostly fine under Wine.)

I came across one issue which might actually indicate a problem with
NetBSD though. I'm hoping someone has access to a real Amiga with DVD-ROM
drive in order to check whether it happens on a real machine.

Testing NetBSD 6.0.1 with emulated SCSI or ATAPI DVD drive, when you try
to access a DVD which is larger than 4GB (2^32 bytes), the accessible
range is truncated modulo 2^32.

For example, one ISO image I used is 4933021696 bytes long.
4933021696 - 2^32 = 638054400 = 311550 * 2048.

Using dd, it stops the 311550-sector point:
# dd if=/dev/cd0c of=/dev/null bs=2048 iseek=311540
9+0 records in
9+0 records out
18432 bytes transferred in 0.089 secs (207101 bytes/sec)

That issue af

Hi,

after long time I thought I could update my NetBSD 5.0.2 installation to the newest 6.0.1 version. Unfortunately, it panics. So I successively tried older versions all the way back to 5.0.2 and in fact version 5.0.2 is the last one which works for me. :(

My Setup is an Amiga 3000 with 2MB chip-men,no fast-mem on main-board, Cyberstorm Mk2 with 128MB RAM, CyberVision64/3D, 4GB hard-disk on A3000 SCSI controller.
The system is rock solid with AmigaOS and NetBSD 5.0.2.

The error I`m experiencing appears directly after the loader starts the kernel, the CyberVision frame buffer obviously gets initialised otherwise I wouldn't be able to read the error message:

panic: uvm_km_suballoc: unable to allocate space in parent map
stopped in pid 0.1 (system) at 6246e: unlk a6
db>

These are the only lines that appear.

I tried with the miniroots, the GENERIC kernels with LoadBSD and I even cross-compiled the 6.0.1 kernel myself with everything disabled that I don't need. I got always the same panic message.

Random SCSI lockup during start NetBSD 6.0

Hello,

Sorry to bother you guys again, this time maybe with something not related to
NetBSD:

During the startup of NetBSD on my A3000 I get a random lockup on the SCSI bus
right after the following (I left out the bits between the <> brackets:

ahsc0: target now synchronous, period=224ns, offset=12
sd0 at scsibus0 target 0 lun 0: <my HD description>
sd0: <drive geometry>

Then it hangs sometimes, with the HD light staying on. At the moment, the HD is
the only SCSI device on the chain. The HD is connected through a 68 pins
connector on the HD to the 68 pins cable to the 68 to 50 pins adapter to the 50
pins connector on the mainboard on one side. The other side on the cable is
actively terminated with a 68 pins terminator.

Drive has TRGT INIT and UNIT ATTN disabled (latter also tried enabled). SCAM is
disabled.

It drives me nuts that it is a random thing.... It seems to improve my chances
to get through this point if I disable all AmigaDOS partitions (4 of them), but
that is maybe wishful thinking

Hello,

After seeing the growing list of supported deviced I wanted to give NetBSD a try
on my Amiga 3000UX. After starting from the SWAP partition to initiate the
installation I get a kernel panic:

uvm_km_suballoc: unable to allocate space in parent map.

A traceback leads to the pmap_init.

I have read the earlier posts on this issue, but no clear answer was given for a
clean install.

The A3000UX is a bit modified:

2MB chip
1MB Fast (on board)
128MB Fast (ZorRAM)
Prometheus PCI card (read this is the culprit for the above panic?)
Voodoo3
NE2000 card
Upgraded SCSI chip
Buster 7
modified OS 3.1 ROMs (does this matter?)

Any help appreciated.

Regards,

Dennis.

Using Zorro III RAM as swap space

Hi list.

I've just committed the new z3rambd driver, which allows using Zorro III memory boards (like ZorRAM and the new BigRamPlus) as swap devices. This makes perfect sense in machines equipped with fast accelerators, with on-board RAM, where you usually don't want to use the slower Zorro III RAM. Raw (dd) performance of swap on ZorRAM is around 3 times better than swap on CSPPC SCSI controller.

The driver is not very polished yet, and user is required to pass -p flag to boot loader - this option will choose highest priority memory segment for kernel (and not largest which is the default). If the kernel is compiled without this driver, user gets the usual behaviour, where Zorro III RAM board can be used as RAM (in some cases, there are known problems).

Currently only ZorRAM is supported, but I'll add support for BigRamPlus soon (it's probably just a matter of adding vendor / product IDs).
