I don't know if this is a misconfiguration on my part or what, but while
looking over bulkbuild results, I've noticed that over a dozen mail
packages are failing in the configure stage.

They are complaining that "/var/qmail" already exists and that it needs
to be deleted before continuing. One package is creating that directory
and it never gets removed afterward, so the following packages that are
sensitive to it fail.

I assume I'm not the first person to have noticed this. How do you deal
with it to get those following packages building too?

missing-important-packages.txt
lists some NetBSD packages that maybe should be there; initially based

many missing and I think other repos may not be official or maintained.
I think the maintained repos for other operating systems are hosted
elsewhere.)

The other files show the removals or additions of packages found in few
old pkg_summary files. (I need to remove the second pkg_summary
differences if is redundant.)

This will need some tuning. But hopefully it is useful.

I also noticed the repo has multiple versions of same packages available
so even the pkg_summary files reflect this. I think this caused by
critical fixed packages being uploaded but old ones not removed yet. I
didn't automate this check since we already have

I tried to use pkgin to install gtk2. This was pkgin and pkg_summary

again).

It is using
http://ftp.NetBSD.org/pub/pkgsrc/packages/NetBSD/amd64/6.0_BETA/All

Should we have a key list of important packages and a cron job that
periodically checks and alerts us?

I know this is just 6.0_BETA but that is not my point. How do we know if
the repo is not useful (common packages)?

I also looked at 6.0 and the pkg_summary is identical. (BUILD_DATE and
SIZE_PKG are identical so assume this is the exact same collection.)

It would also be nice to have a pointer to the build reports if
available or at least a note saying that it is not available.

I sent an email recently about wanting to identify who built and where
the packages came from. The pkg_summary does not tell me. I propose we
extend the pkg_summary to include a meta section about this or add the
details for every single package (by adding the info to every single
package). It

History of gnome-power-manager? and gnome/glib2 version separation?

sysutils/gnome-power-manager doesn't build due to recent glib2 update.
However, looking more closely, it's still (intentionally) on version
2.24 while the rest of gnome is on 2.26. The gnome metapkg also has
2.26 commented out without documenting why.

So first, does anybody know why?

Secondly -
Should glib2 be getting constantly bumped to the next version (currently
at 2.32) while gnome wallows at 2.26? That's the primary cause of the
package failure, glib2 mismatch.

Shouldn't these be upgraded together?

Or to ask a related question: Is there a technical reason gnome is still
at 2.24?

Is there a strategy for glib2 version updates - or is it just
enthusiasm? The last bump to 2.32 was pretty painful, how necessary was
that? I felt bad for dholland.

Hello,

Did anyone ever consider making licenses into packages? (Analogous to
the unix philosophy "everything is a file", from pkgsrc's perspective it
would be something along the line of "everything is a package").

 # cd /usr/pkgsrc/blah/gfoo
 # make
[.. error about licenses/gpl2 not being installed ..]
 # cd /usr/pkgsrc/licenses/gpl2
 # make package-install
 # cd /usr/pkgsrc/blah/gfoo
 # make
 [.. success! ..]

 # date +%F
 2013-05-01
 # pkg_add firefox-781.0.tgz
 Missing mozilla-license.
 # pkg_add mozilla-license.tgz
 # pkg_add firefox-781.0.tgz

So licenses would essentially be dependencies which aren't
automatically built/traversed.

I don't really see any benefits to this, and I'm not seriously
suggesting pkgsrc move in that direction. I'm just curious if it was
ever considered, and if there are any reasons it wouldn't work in
theory. (Apart from the long line of general annoyances it would create).

Hi,

While setting up various NetBSD workstations I realized that Mesa status
is a bit... confusing.

Regarding NetBSD, we have:

. Mesa 7.4.4 in NetBSD 5.x base
. Mesa 7.8.2 in NetBSD 6.x base
. Mesa 7.4.4 in pkgsrc/graphics/Mesa
. Mesa 7.8.2 in pkgsrc/wip

For pkgsrc's Mesa we have:

graphics/Mesa
graphics/MesaLib (have both dri modules + libGL)
graphics/MesaDemos
graphics/glx-utils
graphics/glu
graphics/glut

For wip's Mesa we have:

wip/Mesa
wip/MesaLib (metapackage for dri, glw, gl)
wip/glu
wip/glut
wip/dri (dri modules)
wip/glw
wip/gl (libGL)

I have some questions before putting my hands on those: not being really
familiar with the whole Mesa/dri/drm/Xorg infrastructure, is there a
strong reason other than lack of manpower why the most "recent" version we
provide is 7.8.2?

wip/Mesa is split up in many sub-packages, is this something we want? Is
anybody still working on this? Last update was 2 years ago.

Any insight about this whole 3D world would be v

Checking for missing run-time search paths inconsistent?

I was surprised to see www/aws on the netbsd "doesn't build" list.
The reason is bad rpaths, which I confirmed is correct.
http://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/pkgsrc/misc/joerg/20120515.1826/aws-2.10.0.1nb2/install.log

The problem is that I'm not getting the same error with PKG_DEVELOPER=yes.
I even built it and installed it outside the chroot with PKG_DEVELOPER=yes and it passed. However using readelf confirmed that DragonFly builds it with bad rpaths too.

Why would rpath report this inconsistently? I confirmed the value of WRKDIR was embedded in the rpath, so it should have caught it. www/aws is happy passing on DragonFly builds, both Tinderbox and pbulk.

I justed started a new bulk build. After over an hour of scanning, I
got a message that the presolve effort failed and to check the log.

In the log is a line:
pbulk-resolve: No match found for the dependency p5-AuthCAS>=1.5 of
package sympa-6.1.11

p5-AuthCAS is a brand new package (added yesterday)
Sympa was updated yesterday.

The security/p5-AuthCAS is present.
I don't understand the cause of the failure to presolve the p5-AuthCAS.
Is this something wrong with one of the packages or some failure of
bulk build? I've run 3 builds so far, so that has been working.
