Has anyone gotten this to work properly in Slackware 10.1?

I believe that Monorail 3D audio is OPTi931 based. I have trouble
with oops messages on boot when the onboard sound card is enabled.
I've tried tweaking isapnp.conf to see if using IRQ 7 for the MPU-401
feature instead of 9 or 10 will work. Still, I didn't have an
isapnp.conf last time I booted and Slackware tried to configure the
card just the same, unsuccessfully I might add. Googling around,
I've run into something about needing to statically, non PnP,
configure this card. I don't know how to do this unless there
is a driver for freedos which is what I boot Slackware from.

Has anyone gotten Monorail built-in 3D Audio to work in Linux?

Monorail would probably still be around if the company had been smart
enough to integrate hardware that works with Linux and smart enough to
offer an LCD monitor upgrade for those who want to play Doom. Oh well.

my 3/4-baked theory is that many people new to linux use what their
friends suggest, or what they first or most compellingly hear about.
that is, they don't do comparative research between available/relevant
distributions and choose logically.

certainly that was the case for me in the early days and even now i'm
more a "try it and see" type than a heavy researcher when i experiment with
distros i haven't used before. hmm, then again, i know more of what i
want and need from a distro now, and can judge some things instantly
that i would have not understood when i was getting started, so maybe
the past 16 years has been of some use after all =)

anyway, what is your take on how people choose distributions, and/or
how did you choose your first? i think newbies are an especially
interesting discussion because we are attracting so many to our ranks
these days and i'm curious as to what trends will shape the future of
the landscape; i believe that the distros that see the most users

A half hour ago I killed X (via the Xfce interface) and logged off the

phone through T-mobile, but I think I can get a monthly discount on
the bill because the phone would be bought at a ridiculously high
price. Anyways....I'd like to see the phone and play with it a bit.
I've never owned a smart phone, and since I'm a little bit brainwashed

I've worked through the documentation but haven't yet worked out a

pull data from four tables that correspond to the date-time stamp of the
first table. This will make sense as I describe what I am trying to pull

I have three tables entitled, "msft," "goog," "aapl," and "intc." Each
of these tables are in the same database entitled, "minute."

Here is an example of each (they're essentially the same):

msft:

date time open high low close volume
| 2009-01-15 | 16:57:00 | 18.64 | 18.67 | 18.62 | 18.64 | 190394 |
| 2009-01-15 | 16:58:00 | 18.63 | 18.63 | 18.61 | 18.62 | 60652 |
| 2009-01-15 | 16:59:00 | 18.62 | 18.63 | 18.6 | 18.61 | 404419 |

goog:

date time open high low close volume
| 2009-01-15 | 16:49:00 | 299.32 | 299.32 | 299.32 | 299.32 | 550 |

Linux from scratch...

I finished getting a Linux from scratch system working.

A few things missing, there is no netstat command, no ifconfig command,
and no dns/dhcp commands.

Pulled out my bash book and played a bit with the shell prompt.

I don't know how to set the hostname, so the host name comes up as
(none).

I haven't gotten my wireless logitech keyboard to work with this system,
maybe I need to add something to the kernel?

Well, I'll have to see if I can get the networking tools to fit in 100
megs or less.

Portland Startup Weekend is happening March 5-7 < at > Nedspace

Hi all,

I briefly mentioned this during my PLUG AT presentation a week or so
ago, and though I'd bring it up on the mailing list.

Portland Startup Weekend is kind of a mix between an unconference and a
weekend-long development sprint. You show up, pitch project ideas, form
teams, and work your ass off all weekend and see what comes out of it.
If the stars align right and your team gels, you may even find yourself
becoming a co-founder of a new tech startup company.

It's certain to be a lot of fun, and it's only $75 to register (students
can register for $40). Friday night there will also be some great
presentations to get things going on the right foot.

For more details, visit http://portland.startupweekend.org

I'm planning to be there, and I'm especially interested in any product
ideas that would involve an embedded Linux project. I've posted a few
concepts on the Comment Wall of the Portland Startup Weekend community site:

C++ include files and autocompletion in IDEs

There seems to be an issue with certain C++ IDEs (Eclipse and Emacs with
XRefactory) in dealing with symbols defined in included header files. Not
custom headers like "MyHeader.hpp"; rather system headers like <string> or
<iostream>.

For instance, if I type this much code into one of the aforementioned editors:

  string foo = "hello world";
  cout << foo.

I would like to be able to get a list of completions for the string class,
like length(), at(), etc. But I get nothing.

I looked at string.h and found a possible reason why. This file contains
nothing except more #include directives. length(), at() and the other
methods are defined in other header files. All the C++ header files are like
this.

Is there a nice Linux C++ IDE that overcomes this limitation?
