an emphasis on software development. I will be taking advanced programming

internships due to financial constraints. Any recommendations on how to
break into the field would be greatly appreciated.

Google per se. He was the lone hold out for 4 days during the patent bits

Xamarin (The Mono guys) have ported Android (the OS) to .Net. This
shouldn't be confused with their .Net to Dalvik stack, they have created a
.Net runtime which Android runs on top of.

Google and Oracle battle over the future of AndroidBy David Goldman&lt; at &gt;CNNMoneyTechApril 17, 2012: 3:49 PM ET

Google CEO Larry Page (left) and Oracle CEO Larry Ellison will testify against one another in the coming weeks.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- A landmark court battle between Google and Oracle has begun -- and its result will shape the future of the Android ecosystem fueling most of the world's smartphones.
Silicon Valley's power players are always in the throes of nasty patent fights against each other, but this one is especially potent. Oracle claims that Google's Android violates two patents plus several copyrights that Oracle holds on its Java software, a ubiquitous programming language powering everything from phones to websites.

Although both Java and Android are open-source platforms -- neither Google (GOOG, Fortune 500) nor Oracle (ORCL, Fortune 500) generally charge for their use -- their licensing terms are complex and precise.</pre>

<pre>Hello fellow AJUG'ers,
If you've been wanting to get into some mobile development, here's your chance to learn about Appcelerator Titanium. As some of you saw at my presentations at the Feb AJUG meeting or at DevNexus, my mobile startup is built using Titanium and we really like it.

I'm hosting 2 Titanium sessions next Thursday April 19th:
* a 4 hour intro Titanium workshop
* The Titanium 2.0 Launch event

Below are the 2 links so you can sign up if you're interested. If you can't make it, but are still interested in Titanium, join the meetup group. This will be the only time I send a message about the Titanium meetup to the AJUG mail list. Please create any conversations/questions about these events on the Titanium meetup group site.

Both are free and sponsored events, so there's no charge! If you attend the workshop, I only ask that you get a good night's sleep beforehand, it will be intense!

Java Certification - Worth it?

<pre>I have recently stumbled into the world of Java, decided I like it, and
would like to learn more.
In the last 10 years I have done some light programming, almost all of it
in VB and some C#, and in the last 6 months in Java.

I am thinking about going for Java certification, mainly as a way for me to
learn more about programming in Java.
I'd be interested in opinions on whether certification is worth the effort,
and what the value of certification is in the job market.

I work with Java right now in a QA position (Java + Selenium WebDriver),
and would like to transition to a developer role in the future.

Thanks.

Let me recommend Mac users who use Java to update their OS.

Running multiple sites off of a single tomcat server

<pre> Hey has anyone been able to run multiple sites (domains) off a single
 tomcat server?

I found some somewhat useful links and I have been experimenting with
them
but the behavior I am experiencing does not match what I expect.

 http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-6.0-doc/virtual-hosting-howto.html

http://iam-rakesh.blogspot.com/2009/10/hosting-multiple-domains-in-tomcat.html

I am running tomcat 6.0.35. So far I have updated server.xml and defined
two host entries and put a ROOT.war
at the location I defined in appbase
 appBase="atlantaapps"

Anyone do this before?

I have been wasting my time on this rabbit-hole.....

<pre>Google IO sold out TOO quickly again, so I want to mention the Android event
happening between now and then, with Google Keynote and additional speakers
from Google.

AnDevCon III &lt;http://www.tucows.com/preview/613285&gt; , a technical conference
for software developers building Android apps, is happening May 14-17 in San
Francisco.

Qoppa is going to exhibit again this year, because we were impressed with
the caliber of attendees at last year's event. It is clearly a developer's
and engineer's conference.

Oh, and if you use this code (qoppa) when you register, you will get a
discount of $200 off the conference pass cost.
AND, if you register before next Friday, April 6, you'll save even more.

next big (unless I'm missing one) conference (IMHO), Google IO.

So 1) Who got a ticket and 2) who is going to an IO viewing?
