Dayton Hamvention 2013.
Since many fellow WISPS are also Hams, or they like to go to our events, I
thought I would make my yearly posting.

This year, about 30,000 Ham Radio operators from around the World will
converge on the Hara Arena in Dayton Ohio. Among all the regular things you
might expect is the famous Fleamarket/Boneyard. There will be thousands of
outside exhibitors there with all sorts of things related to radio and
wireless.

My Ham groups (Big Shanty Repeater Group and Atlanta Amateur Television)
will again be in spaces 3829,3830,3831,3832. We also take all the surplus
gear from our WISP and make it available as well.
This year we will have lots of Ubiquiti (pre-M series), some Canopy, some
Ligowave/Deliberant and of course the Pepwave Surf 200s, which are very
popular.

If you are planning to attend, please stop by and meet us/talk shop. I
will be there Thursday afternoon (not open to public) as well as Friday and
Saturday all day. If you are going, plea

[WISPA] Electrical noise problem / need solution

I'll try to keep this as brief as possible while providing pertinent info -
thanks if you reply
FM tower with AM detuner skirt from 0-150ft - fm tower has isolated guy
wires and is well grounded at base AM tower ~60 yards away operating at
50KW with 4 arrays max
We did new install there and ran power wire up tower in non-shielded SOOW
14/3 wire to 325ft from inside building at base Right after it was pulled
up tower I happened to be running the bottom into the building and got
shocked, not just by the cable but by about everything around me. Not fun,
RF burn is something you don't want to experience lol. Its unbelievable
really, watch this short video from my phone - you can hear the am station
coming out of the arc welder like sparks. http://flhsi.com/files/wow.mov
Remember, this cable is not powered up its just hanging there... Gives you
something to think about.
So obviously I decided it was best not to hook it up to the equipment at
325ft or the power UPS at the bottom. I looked f

[WISPA] American Tower and US Post Office Roofs

This is more a curiosity question than anything else.

Does anyone know why American Tower seems to list all (or at least many)
US Post Office Roofs as "rental rooftops"?

At least around here the post offices are usually some of the smaller
structures and I can't imagine anyone renting the roof space.

[WISPA] Help with old SAF installation

I have a relatively old SAF CFM FR34 FODU installation at a client site
that has somehow become my problem and can't seem to find a proper user
manual online, can anyone help, also likely that the radio doesn't have the
default IP or password, is there a way to reset these radios without losing
the frequency setting?

It seems that the management port on the POE/ODU doesn't work on these
units and you have to manage them via the data interface, is this correct?

Thanks for your help,
