as you may have noticed, the Creative Commons have just created a new
label that marks "free" works as in "compatible with FSF logic"; I
think you might be interested in having a look at:

Perhaps that could be interesting for Mutopie licenses definitions, could it?

    <title>1000 pieces</title>
    <link>http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.music.mutopia.discuss/546</link>
    <description>Hi,

Just to let you know that the Mutopia archive reached 1000 pieces today!

Many thanks to all of the contributors over the last eight years. The
1000th piece was, appropriately enough, "Untitled" contributed by Stan
Sanderson at 0304 GMT this morning.

Incremental improvements to the archive/website continue. The most
recent is a "change history" feature allowing you to see what has
changed when a piece has been updated, be it a correction, for example:
http://www.mutopiaproject.org/cgibin/piece-info.cgi?id=1075

or additional movements/instruments, for example:
http://www.mutopiaproject.org/cgibin/piece-info.cgi?id=1026

I intend to update the website making it clearer that corrections are
accepted and encouraged. I have a large number of LilyPond versions
installed on my system (some using virtualization with old versions of
Linux), so updating most pieces is relatively simple.

Further improvements are to come, not least the updating of the
CGI-generated pages (music info + search results) to </description>

when one defines fingering numbers for notes with slurs, numbers are
positioned always over slur line (if it if upper slur). That could be very
high, too much for corresponding note. How to define that slur position is
ignored for fingering numbers. I want that fingering numbers are positioned
over note regardless of slur line.

    <description>Hi all,

as a new member and newbie for LilyPond I have one question; is it possible
to define that all dynamics signs (ppp, pp, ..., fff, crescendo,
decrescendo, ...) should be vertically centered between left hand and right
hand piano staves? Now when I define note with e.g. piano dynamics like c\p
my "p" vertically and horizontally follows my note (below), sometimes is
higher sometimes lower. I'd like all dynamics signs in my score to be
vertically centered by default.

Thx in advance

    <link>http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.music.mutopia.discuss/525</link>
    <description>Hi all,

I recently started using Gmane (http://www.gmane.org), a free mail-to-
news gateway that allows mailing list users to view messages through
a Usenet newsreader. A bunch of high-profile open source projects
(including LilyPond) use Gmane, so I was writing to see whether
there's any opposition to adding mutopia-discuss to Gmane. (Gmane
already includes a group for the apparently-defunct mutopia-announce
list.)

If we were to do so, everyone would be able to post to and read the
list just as before, but it would also be possible to view the list
through a newsreader. Gmane has a comprehensive FAQ at http://
gmane.org/faq.php, and information on adding a list is available at
http://gmane.org/add.php. If there's no significant opposition to
this idea within a couple of days, I'll go ahead and add the list
myself.

If all this seems a little complicated then please don't be put off
- it's not really that hard! We're looking forward to receiving your

be sent, by e-mail, to &lt;contributions (at) MutopiaProject.org&gt;.

We reserve the right to refuse files submitted to Mutopia if we feel that they are in any way unsuitable.

Have a nice day!

    <description>Hello,
I don't know if this is the right place, for it, and I apologize if it is
not:
I am finishing a few lieder (song with piano) of Schubert with Lilypond:
they are
- An die Musik D 547
- Auf dem Wasser zu singen D 774
- Erlk?nig D 328
- Du bist die Ruh D 776
- Ungeduld (Die sch?ne M?llerin D 795 n? 7)
- Ellen's dritter Gesang (Ave Maria) D 839 (I've read on the list today that
someone is preparing the piano version)
- An Sylvia D 891 (but you have it already, anyway, it is finished)

All the scores come from the university of Indiana (
http://www.dlib.indiana.edu/variations/scores/) and are in the Public domain
(An old Peters Edition from the beginning of the 20th century, though there
is no date)

I am a fan of Schubert's Lieder, so I will continue on this way.
I want both a beautiful score and a beautiful and complete Midi output.

Wish you my best regards.

    <title>Mozart Sonate facile, first try</title>
    <link>http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.music.mutopia.discuss/519</link>
    <description>Hello,

I have just completed the transcription of the first movement of this
sonata from an IMSLP source. That version has a lot of annotations
that I'm sure are not in the original urtext. Anyway they may be
useful to study the piece.

This first version surely has some mistakes that I will correct later,
but I have few questions about lilypond:

1.- How to make a trill span in a single mesure for a single note
without invading another mesure? (mesure 25, line 89). Besides it
should finish with a grace (see mesures 25 and 69 in IMSLP version).

2.- I am using several transpositions of repeated parts. The notes go
fine but of course the transposed fingering is not right. Is there a
way to assign different fingering to different transpositions?

3.- Finally, lilypond complains about being unable to end slurs when
they are oppened or closed at different relative blocks. What should I
do?

Thank you in advance for any hint.

    <description> Hello

One of the main problem that I have to contribute Mutopia is to find
out of copyright music. The musical libraries that I know do not have
the precise partitions that I want to play and to lilypondize. But maybe
an other music library in the world has.

So it should be great to open an new section in the mutopia's
website which serves to say ? I am searching for Telemann recorder
fantasias ! ? If someone find it, he can email me a scanned version that
I can lilypondize.

An other advantage is to allow non-expert in informatics to
contribute by simply find, scan and email sheets of music. It can be
done by every musicians without particular computer knowledge.

To be brief: I am sure that some music library in the world has an
old edition of these these fucky recorder fantasias. How to ask them to
the whole Mutopia community ?

What do you think about ?

Laurent

    <description>Hi,

I happened accross the Back 2 Part Inventions since they are said to be
good for technical development while being musical at the same time,
i.e. more fun that Hanon and co. Being able to play it musically up to
the indicated tempo is the "test."

I first downloaded free versions of the Bach Inventions from SMA
( http://www.sheetmusicarchive.net/single_listing.cfm?composer_id=2 ).
Then I heard about mutopia and reckoned newly engraved editions should
look better, and in fact they do!

OTOH the Mutopia version seems to be missing quite a number of markings
that are present in the SMA version and seem important. Before I mention
them, let me first say that I am quite new to music (I've only been
taking piano lessons for a couple of months), so please excuse any
assumptions/mistakes I make from ignorance. I always appreciate
instructional/educational remarks :) I'll show specific examples related
to the first invetion, but similar comments seem to apply to the rest.
