It features a track of that particular concert a while ago during which Fred Frith made a lot of use of a certain playback function. Awesome effect. He clones himself right in the middle of a song, suddenly or constantly. Howthahell he exactly does that timed so perfectly is any one's guess. Absolutely no overdubs here. 3 on stage, 4 playing! Two of them Fredful Frithes!

The purpose of this? To stimulate interest, to encourage Fred to go ahead with a possible/planned official release. He once said during a casual occasion that he passed all the tapes to Tzadik, so they may do a release of the yet unreleased stuff in the shape of a box release. It's already a while ago that he said so ... Readers of the forum have bought the Henry Cow box, so it's clear what "box" means. And to rule out concerns that this formation plays "Ambient" stuff or falls in the category of "Jam Bands?!".

What can be expected in case that Fred Frith makes this promise to th

recent reggae Laswell productions were'nt really exciting.
Probably because of the extremely good Sly & Robbie ridims.

For anyone who ordered the Garrison Hawk vinyl - thanks for being patient.
I believe Redeye intends to have it out today as it was re-scheduled from
the date that coincided with the CD release. Manufacturing delays because
there was a lot of care put into this (i.e. high quality vinyl, not just a
thrown together release). Will be worth the wait if you're a vinyl fan.

The next release is tentatively scheduled for June 26. Jano's 'Ertale'.
Killer Ethiopian rock band recorded at the new studio in Addis Ababa. This
has been in rotation for me for months. I think it's a killer release. Part
of the planned Method Ethiopia batch of releases. Artwork by Doze Green,
which has been tweaked from the original version I saw and is even better.

(though it certainly can't hurt to do it again...).

The new Spectre album (vinyl) is ready to go, but needs to be mastered
before it can be released. Skiz has started (actually, a while back
already) a Kickstarter funding campaign in order to get the $3,000 needed
to make that happen. In short (if you are unfamiliar), you basically pledge
to back a project. All the specifics are noted on the page. You are not
charged unless the goal is actually achieved. For a $20 you get a copy of
the record (pretty much in line with new vinyl+shipping prices). So in that
instance it's almost as if you're just paying in advance for product. Seems
like more and more people are doing this to make projects economically
viable. Check out the page, read up, and if you're into it, please donate!

Blur is a pop/rock group at heart, and have a very different aesthetic from
much of the music discussed here. Even if that's not your thing I feel
many members would enjoy at least a portion of Blur frontman Damon Albarn's
"solo" work under various guises. Damon has championed music from around
the globe and I have no doubt that their would be significant overlap
between his jukebox and Bill's. I would be very excited to see them
become regular collaborators - that would be a fruitful partnership.

If anyone cares. This is Percy Howard's newst project. He was kind enough
to send me a copy well over a year ago. Unfortunately every time I sat down
to try and write a quick review here, I realized why there are no reviews
on my own site - I'm a crappy writer.

Anyway (let's forget about personal sniping or personalities we all have
and don't mesh with), this is a pretty solid release. The project consists
of Howard and Martin Birke. In the past I've commented that as much as I
think Howard as a spectacular voice, it doesn't always work for me in the
context of the releases I have. I found that not to be the case with this
group. Still strong and unwavering, but the music and the vocals dovetail
quite nicely for me. It's got a strong electronic vibe to it (for me in the
best way - clever and not heavy handed) coupled with the vocals that give
more of a soul vibe, though neither description does it justice. There are

Material's "Upriver" came up on shuffle the other day and I looked
into the guy who was playing the mean fiddle, the late Billy Bang.
Anybody familiar with some of his other work and can recommend
anything?

Material: Concert Milan March 11, 2012

Nearly two weeks after the event took place, a belated review by someone who had heard/seen this project's previous/past great efforts with participants such as Foday Musa Suso, Ginger Baker, DXT, Nicky Skopelitis, Henry Threadgill, Nils-Petter Molvaer, Gigi, Buckethead, Amina Claudine Myers, Pharoah Sanders and many more, which all had set the standard level very high.

Gigi had been announced as headline act for the Milan concert and did not show. It is speculative what would have been, but the 2009 Krems/Austria concert which has nearly in full length and without major alterations been officially released and also documents of more recent performances in USA and Ethiopia suggest that in a concert with Gigi's presence the vocals predominate, thus limit the space for the melody instruments. Conclusion by performing band and observers therefore - great opportunity this time to showcase all instruments more intensely.

Surprise act was Bernie Worrell. It must have been hard decision to renounce Abegasu Shiota
