<pre>I have a squirrelmail (squirrelmail-1.4.20_2) setup running under FreeBSD 8.0, and I have a user who has a bit over 30,000 emails. Squirrelmail is usable, but he has need to search the emails (all of them) frequently, and here squirrelmail falls down, badly.

The emails are not just numerous, but also tend to be large with attachments (over 4GB total mail).

The mailstore is maildir.

Is there anything that I can do on the backend? Any search plugins that might help?

I’m thinking the best thing to do might be simply to move this user to a gmail account, but he is very resistant to that.

If the subject contain Å or å, it isn't visible in the list over messages,
I can see it should be there but there isn't any link to click at.

If the sender contain Å or å (like in &amp;aring; ) the sender isn't visible

If the text inside the email contains Å or å, that paragraph isn't visible

This happened after updated the system (some previous problems with
apt-get were fixed and I installed literally houndreds of updates within a
couple of minutes). I started with SM 1.4.21, but upgraded to 1.4.22 in
case that would solve the problem (it didn't).
I'm running this on Debian x64.

I am fairly new to hosting an email server/client and I have been
encountering problems with hmailserver and squirrelmail.

The error I get with trying to send mail is;

Strict Standards: Declaration of Deliver_SMTP::initStream() should be
compatible with Deliver::initStream($message, $length = 0, $host = '', $port

Then with recieving emails, it just wont recieve them.

SquirrelMail is licensed under the GPL. The cost to you can be explained
with this short list:

 - Licenses are $0 per license when purchased in small quantities (1-50)
 - Bulk licenses are $0 each (51-500)
 - If you need more licenses we can work out custom pricing.
 - Site licenses are available for $0, many people choose this option for
 bang-for-the-buck.
 - Support is available on the SquirrelMail mailing list at a rate of $0

Autoresponse plugin questions

<pre>Hi,

I have v1.4.22 installed with the autoresponse plugin. We don't have the
spamrule plugin or provide the end-users with any ability to do any type of
filtering.

I've removed the text from the $AUTORESPOND_OPTS['keep_desc'] config.php
option where it details how to choose 'unfiltered' or 'filtered'. However,
I'd also like to remove the two radio buttons by the same name.

I've located the section in lib.php regarding these settings, but before I
started hacking on it, I thought there might be someone more familiar with
it (and php programming) to give me an idea of what specifically I should
do to remove those options and default to 'unfiltered' delivery?

Thanks,
Alex

Interesting Issue

<pre>Hi all.

My wife has noticed a new "feature" that is troubling.

Sometimes when she clicks on an email's checkbox, then clicks delete,
the emails adjacent are also deleted. First it was only happening in
some of her sub-folders, but today it happened in her personal inbox.

A bit of background:

Linux Mint v10 (too old; laptop very old)
Chromium-browser (I've asked her to try Firefox again - switched to
Chrome because it's so much faster, or was at the time).

We own our mail server, which is fedora (v8) running Dovecot, which I
wonder about, too. It's a "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" scenario,
that may now be broken and needing a major upgrade/update.
SQM is v1.4.22

Have any of you seen this behavior anywhere before?

Thank you,

Karl

<pre>Hi,

I've implemented the lockout plugin on the latest v1.4.22 and somehow
missed the notes in the README about the pam_tally and pam_lockout
plugins. However, I'm unable to locate them anywhere. Do they still
exist? Have they now been superceded by the lockout plugin?

Thanks,
Alex

lockout plugin preference error

<pre>Hi,

I just found this error message in the squirrelmail_access_log from
squirrel_logger:

Apr 5 13:00:45 [INVALID] user68019 (prop.example.com) from
69.11.53.205: Preference file,
/var/lib/squirrelmail/data/lockout_plugin_login_failure_information.pref,
could not be copied from temporary file,
/var/lib/squirrelmail/data/lockout_plugin_login_failure_information.pref.tmp.
Contact your system administrator to resolve this issue.

The file is owned and only readable by the apache user, but it already
contains a number of lockout messages. The data directory is also
owned by apache, so it should have no problem creating temporary files
in that directory.

There's only one occurrence of this message after having been run for
about a week, but just wanted to be sure there wasn't something I'm
doing wrong.

Thanks,
Alex

CentOS5-CentOS6 Migration problem: HTML-Formatted email in Squirrelmail disappears (details below ...)

<pre>
Greetings,

In Squirrelmail, you can install a plugin called html_mail that allows you
to compose html-formatted email.

This plugin functions with Firefox and Internet Explorer; it doesn't
function in Google Chrome.

In CentOS 5 with PHP5.1 using html_mail, I would toggle the HTML source
button. Then, I could copy and paste html-formatted text with complicated
html (tables, css, etc) from a text editor into the the html-formatting
pane of squirrelmail, and the message would be delivered as html-formatted
to the recipients.

In CentOS 6, with PHP5.3, using Squirrelmail with the html_mail plugin,
using this same procedure (toggle html source to bring up "text mode" in
the composition pane) and copying html-formatted text from a text editor
into the html-window in Squirrelmail, the delivered email only shows the
header information.

Using pine, I see that there is an attachment, viewing the attachment, I
see the original html code that was composed in a text editor.

Viewing this same received ema</pre>

<pre>This is a problem which keeps me from upgrading PHP.
Using 1.4.22 with PHP 5.3: no problem.

If I try to use SVN snapshot with PHP 5.4, I'm hitting the symptom in the
subject.

I've opened a bug report:
https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&amp;aid=3609402&amp;group_id=311&amp;atid=100311

The only relevant message I could find on the net is
this:http://www.spinics.net/lists/squirrelmail/msg10081.html
But in my case it's not about double LFs. Nevertheless: I saw no answers
in the archive.

Any ideas are welcome.

I'm also interested in digging the code myself. Just point me to the place
where the message body and the headers get sent for printed quotable
decoding and where the decoding happens.

Thx: Dw.
