Hi all,

http://www.openspf.org is back in business! The server has been fixed and
Stuart D. Gathman and I have pulled current backups. I am also going to
look into automating the backup pulling process.

Many thanks to Alan Maitland for his help in getting the server back up!

Julian

Hello,

www.openspf.org is still down and not responding. Does anyone have access
to the machine? We really need to get this fixed. I keep getting
responses from people I refer to the site about not being able to get the
information.

Thanks,

(I do not plan to check PRA given patent issues and general uselessness of
doing so.)

If both v=spf1 and spf2.0/mfrom records exist, then I will give the v=spf1
record precedence. I don't think this is addressed in either spec.

Hello,

Today I received and email telling me I need SPF records. But with no
information. I sent an email back requesting headers but nothing came
back. This is worse than having no SPF. It really is spamming me. Below
is the email. I have SPF records that expect failures. What are they
talking about. One area, that I think SPF missed was CNAME. I have tons
of host/domain pairs with CNAME. I really dislike having to change every
CNAME into an A record.

Hi, <http://spf-all.com/stats.html> is quite fascinating,
it says that over 99.95% of about 2,500,000 evaluated SPF
records use no macros at all. Of course this can't tell
us how much FAIL-protected mails desperately need macros.

With fresh ideas for obscure corner cases, what do existing

Hello

I am new to SPF and i install exim with SPF supports.
After the install i add the following line in the rcpt acl of my exim configuration
file

deny message = $sender_host_address is not allowed to send mail from
$sender_address_domain
log_message = SPF check failded
spf = fail

This configuration can permit to test a fail forgery attemps from domains wich publish
SPF records.(example aol.com)

A furgery aol mail from host 41.207.177.17 to my server give this error

"SPF result is unknown (permanent error) (7)"

**** SMTP testing session as if from host 41.207.177.17
**** but without any ident (RFC 1413) callback.

Hi, for info, IIRC some folks here have strong preferences
wrt example addresses in RFCs and elsewhere. On the SMTP
list Tony asked:

| John has said to me that he's always been willing to
| change the non-example domain names to 2606 example
| domain names.

| Now that the appeal is done and out of the way, do people
| prefer

| 1) none of the domain names be changed?
| 2) all domain names be changed, except Jon Postel's isi.edu
| and usc.edu references
| 3) all domain names be changed

| I would like to get a quick consensus call for this question.
| Please respond by Thursday, July 10.

That is "respond to his original message", *NOT* to this info.

I try to get the IDNAbis folks to finally nail this <toplabel> beast.

After "at least one dot" killed by 2821bis - currently blocked by an
appealed DISCUSS [1} - the <toplabel> update [2] is the second point
in RFC 3696 that didn't survive the IETF process. Fortunately it is
also the last point relevant for SPF, we can simply pull the RFC 3696
reference in a future 4408bis.

Still unclear is the minimal length of a <toplabel>, SPF picked one,
USEFOR picked two. SPF got an RFC number, the approved USEFOR RFC on
standards track is blocked by a missing normative reference, SNAFU.
