Angry Birds is a popular game, and just sending this link to people

Chrome, let them discover that detail on their own.

Finding recent new Debian packages

<pre>Hello,

I use aptitude to maintain packages on my desktop Debian wheezy system.
This morning I saw an interesting package in the list of "new packages" but
didn't install it.
In the evening I stumbled into someone who might be interested in this kind
of a package, but I can't remember its name.
The only thing I know about it is that it was added to Debian in the last
24 hours or so (previous update happened yesterday).

Is there a way for me to find Debian packages listed by time of upload?

For what it's worth - it was something related to distributing processing
load across multiple computers (e.g. office desktops) and taking advantage
of their CPU power while they are not used for anything else. I'm not
talking about distributed.net and friends but something which can allow a
corporate to take advantage of the processing power of its own desktops for
its own purposes.

Thanks,

Barak:

InfiniBand, RoCE and RDMA Verbs - Empowering Supercomputing and Data
Center Interconnects

Abstract

This lecture aims to provide a brief introduction to the InfiniBand
architecture and programming using RDMA verbs. InfiniBand is an open
standard, used in HPC (supercomputing) and data center environments for
high performance connectivity. This standard defines a complete fabric
architecture, from the physical layer all the way to the programming
API. The programming API, also known as RDMA verbs, allows for
transparent memory operations over the network, transport layer
offloading, and a complete kernel bypass.

Israeli Linux Related Web Sites - Outdated and User UnFriendly!

<pre>Hello Fellow Israeli Linuxers!

I was going over some Israeli Linux web sites (using http://www.linux.org.il
and http://www.hamakor.org.il as starting points) and I've noticed a few
problems:

 1. most of the mention the same resources (obviously).
 2. Almost all of them are in English only.
 3. Some of the links on the "Israeli Resources" pages are dead - i.e.:
 http://www.zulo.org.il.
 4. All of them are outdated - both design (The IGLU site is the
 exception) and content-wise.

I have no idea in Web development and/or design, but what I *do* have is
lots of motivation, free time and some basic translation skills.

I am willing to learn, so if someone spends an hour explaining to me how to
improve the above points, and gives me the appropriate credentials, I will
be more the glad to help out in remedy the situation.

We have to make the Israeli Linux Portal more welcome for the Israelis,
starting with the most obvious task: Making Hebrew content available!

Thoughts?

<pre>Hi,

I'm trying to make a existing apache/php application to work with SELinux.

For most problems I figured out what to change or do so the application
would work OK
(e.g. allowing certain ports, clearing execstack and stuff). But I got left
with a few socket
access problems due to context difference which I wasn't able to solve (no
matter which
context the files got).

I'm looking someone who could help me to figure out the missing bits. So
far I wasn't able
to find someone with SELinux experience, and that's why I'm addressing this
list.

Thanks,

Kaplan

I have been assigned at work to write a specific protocol between two

decided to write it on linux, and simulate the communication using a named
pipe. In theroy, it should be trivail since the protocol only needs to know
about the FD to read/write to, correct? Wrong.

I face two problems (maybe one, as both problems seem similar):

When I try to read from the PC (Ubuntu 12.04, 64bit), the read just aborts
returning "0". If I run the application several times, I somtimes see that the
app can read ONE byte. Sometimes.

When I write from the PC, and read from the device (Andriod, 2.3.7, Linux
2.6.38.8) the android device reads garbage. I mean, the byte count is wrong,
and the content is usually garbage.

When I connect microcom (busybox) on Android (actually "microcom /dev/ttyS3 |
hexdump -C") I can see that the bytes sent are mostly arriving, however maybe
times bytes are missing, and sometimes the same bytes are rea</pre>

I have a generic SAA7130 PCI TV card that has worked for years. It's connected

(and sometimes xawtv) as my TV viewer.

Unfortunately, new computers no longer have PCI slots, so I'll need a new card
(or more probably a USB dongle). I've Googled for recommendations, but haven't
really found a solution. Does anyone on the list have a working solution to
suggest? My needs are simple. I just want to connect to my "MEMIR" and watch
TV in a window, while using the computer for writing, browsing, etc. The
possibility to record TV programs would be nice, but is NOT essential.

 Scientific Python

Abstract

(For a longer description in Hebrew, see http://haifux.org/lectures/277/ )

In scientific programming, software is used for the purpose of research
of processes. This method is used today in almost every field of
science: Mathematics, physics, biology, medicine, engineering and even
in social science. This includes e.g. numerical analysis, analysis of
data and numerical optimization.

One of the most popular programs in this field is MATLAB, which is
distributed with a proprietary license by the Mathworks. The academic
establishment endorses knowledge sharing, and is therefore keen to adopt
free software, which is ideologically closer to the its underlying
values of freedom of knowledge. The appearance of free alternatives to
MATLAB in the recent years is therefore no surprise. One of these
alternatives is based upon the Python programming language.

This lecture will present how Python</pre>

I don't get any output from ls , I cannot stop the command - I only can close the window.
I rebooted the servers and when I saw that reboot didn't help I ran manually fsck.
No improvement.
Has anyone any idea what can be the cause and what to do?

Thank you

network routing problem

<pre>Hi all
I don't want to make it too technical, just maybe somebody occured with
similar problem and have a clue:

We have a debian server that has 2 nw cards: DMZ &amp; Office.
It used to work well with our old sisco router. But a boss asked to move
onto a fortigate router.

Once we did it - as is (all other severs work ok) but on this debian all
"s" services (https, ssh) became blocked from the Office &amp; still ok for DMZ.

Famous NW provider got stuck meanwhile..
Any hint?

[HAIFUX LECTURE] Modern Web Development in Perl by Gabor Szabo

<pre>On Monday, April 23rd at 18:30, Haifux will gather to hear a talk by
Gabor Szabo:

 Modern Web Development in Perl

Abstract

Back in the early years of the dynamic web, Perl was the de-facto choice
of language. It was so ubique that people associated it with CGI. For
that, even today, Perl suffers from a bad image. Even though, under the
visible surface, there are strong powers leading to a much better future.

In the last couple of years a new bread of frameworks appeared in the
Perl world. They are all based on the PSGI standard that rhymes to WSGI
and Rack. In this presentation we will see a couple of examples for
writing PSGI ( http://plackperl.org/ ) and Dancer (
http://perldancer.org/ ) based applications.

About the speaker: Gabor Szabo is a long time Perl developer and
trainer. He has been using Perl since 1995 and teaching it since 2000.
He is runs his blog at http://szabgab.com/ and publishes a weekly
newsletter with Perl related news called Perl Weekly:
http://perlweekly.com/ .
