Unable to login Keyboard not responding

<pre>Hi,

Just completed CLFS Multilib build using Version 1.2.0 book without any
major problems in the chroot environment.
Copied the new kernel to a pre-existing /boot partition and modified
menu.lst to boot with per-existing grub.
The kernel appears to load but the bootscripts initially failed with a
checkfs error '..Press Enter to Continue'.

Pressing Enter does nothing.

After removing the fsck option from fstab the boot scripts run without
error to the login prompt but I can't enter a
username; the keyboard appears not to be responding. The only thing that
works is the reboot button.

The syslog file is written and looks ok; the only reference to keyboards is

            kernel: [ 1.561827] serio: i8042 KBD port at 0x60,0x64 irq 1

and the only errors are

features (240)

First Error :
This link is for error reference :

http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/pipermail/lfs-dev/2011-June/064803.html

I get this every time I try on Debian 6 stable, x86_64, compiling '
eglibc-2.13 ' . Attempt 7+ ? Found no workaround for this.

Tried using glibc-2.14.1 as in the link above and the ' -Wl,--as-needed
' Error 134 in the make check was fatal every time.
Sorry, my machine seg faulted and the exact error [ elf/? ] got lost
before I could save it.

Reference Link : https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/User:Allan/Toolchain

Used the ' --with-binutils=PATH ' set, ' AS_FOR_TARGET= ' , '
LD_FOR_TARGET= ' switches. Still got the error. Used the
'glibc-2.14.1-cpuid-1.patch' I found on LFS / CLFS ftp as well.

This did show in the compiler output after ' --with-binutils=PATH ' was
specified : " -Wl,--no-as-needed -lgcc -Wl,--as-needed -lgcc_s
-Wl,--no-as-needed `gcc -B/tools/bin "

This output : " -Wl,--as-needed -lgcc_s " . My guess is this relates to

<pre>I built a x86_64 pure64 using the 'bootable' (i.e. not the chroot)
method. When I booted the temporary system up, it came up and gave
me a login prompt and I typed root but it wouldn't give me a shell
prompt. After a few seconds I got another login prompt but couldn't
get it to log me in.

Has anyone else tried this and it worked? I'm trying to figure out
if I did something wrong....

To get around it I modified inittab for single mode run level and got
a prompt that way and was able to finish chapter 10 ok...

CLooG-parma looking for GMP and PPL on host system

<pre>Hi all,

I am mostly following CLFS Sysroot version SVN-0.0.1-20090726-x86,
except with more recent versions of software packages. For the details
of my build (package versions, etc.), see my procedure:
http://odin1.pehjota.net/git/free-embedded-os/tree/temporary-bootstrap-builder-setup.txt

I'm currently stuck at section 5.8 in the book -- the first build of
CLooG-PPL (now called CLooG-parma with version 0.16):
http://cross-lfs.org/view/clfs-sysroot/x86/cross-tools/cloog-ppl.html

CLooG-parma's configure script is trying to find GMP on the host system.
For example, when running a configure command line like the one in
CLFS, I see the following:
  $ LDFLAGS="-Wl,-rpath,${BBL}/cross-tools/lib" ./configure \
  &gt; --prefix=${BBL}/cross-tools --enable-shared --with-bits=gmp \
  &gt; --with-gmp=${BBL}/cross-tools --with-ppl=${BBL}/cross-tools

host, build and target for binutils

<pre> Dear All,

I am not sure the following question should send which mail list, so I send to both. Sorry for interrupting.

Recently, I am using clfs to build a linux os from scratch. I configure binutils using the following command:

../binutils-2.21.1/configure --prefix=/cross-tools --target=i686-none-linux-gnu --with-sysroot=/sysroot --disable-nls --enable-shared --disable-multilib

After building binutils, I make install the binutils. But what is confusing me is that under the cross-tools directory, there are both i686-none-linux-gnu and i686-pc-linux-gnu. According the general cross-compile toolchain, there are should only i686-none-linux-gnu. So what's the matter ?

Thanks in advance.

Thx &amp; Rgds,
Jacky

<pre>I cannot login into the embedded system to work. I am using the serial port
for login. When the system boots, I get a login prompt to which I enter the
user (root -- there is currently no password for root). The system reports:

But then immediately returns to the login prompt. Here is the output near
the end of the boot and after I try to log inL

Here is the output at the end of the boot when I try to log in:

<pre>Hi,

I am using Trisquel, a Debian-based operating system, to setup a CCLFS.
The following report might be a useful fix to a bug arising from
accessing /dev/pts from a Chroot environment; or possibly, trigger
useful comments.

When installing Binutils based on Section 10.15 of the CLFS book, I
wasn't able to check the proper operation of PTYs from ' expect -c
"spawn ls" '. This, in spite of closely following the CLFS book's
instructions.

After some thought, I realized that the contents of the /dev/pts folder
were not accessible from the Chroot environment. I was not able to find
a fix from the
CLFS mailbox nor through a few other web resources.

After some thought, I solved the problem by applying the --rbind or -R
option instead of '-o bind' in 'mount -v -o bind /dev $CLFS/dev '
suggested in Section 8.4 (Entering the Chroot Environment) of the book.
Hopefully, this will serve as a useful error fix to others and/or
induce useful comments.
