    <link>http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.linux.distributions.gobo.general/11208</link>
    <description>&lt;pre&gt;Hi,
The forum is very little used, and mostly just a Q&amp;amp;A with me when it is.
Most of the posts we get through are spam these days, which take a bit
of effort to can each time. The original user demand hasn't really
materialised into a regular community on the forum. The gobolinux-users
list will usually be a better and more responsive venue for people, and
I think the presence of the forum is an attractive nuisance more than
anything.

For those reasons, I'm proposing to close the forum down in a couple of
weeks' time. There are good arguments and reasons for having forums, but
I don't think it's something we can support at this point. If there's
viable demand in the future we could set some up again, but right now
directing people to the mailing lists and IRC seems more appropriate.

If anyone objects strongly to this plan, they should make themselves
known and we'll see what we can do, but otherwise I will shut down the
forums soon.

I've also posted this message on the forum itself, since this may not be

An evaluation and comparison of GoboLinux

I quote: "The only bad thing I can say about GoboLinux is that the
latest 014.01 release is outdated (2008) and it looks like 015 is in
progress for almost three years... I'm not sure if there will be a new
release soon, which is a pity."

Last Autumn I thought a new updated live CD release was imminent (see
references) but alas not. Perhaps 2012 will be the Year of GoboLinux 015!

This came a long way after a bunch of deps were installed.

Later I resourced my .zshrc (hence running the rootless script) and now I
don't even get that error but instead InstallPackage times out on every
package I try to install (when checking for binaries).

My host is OpenSUSE 11.4. The following information may be useful:

- Copy from my existing Gobo-partition the /Programs/Scripts,
/Programs/Compile and /Programs/Python dirs, and linked its to the

LD_LIBRARY_PATH="/lib:/usr/lib:/usr/X11R7/lib:/root/my-applications/lib:/System/Links/Libraries"

And I tryed the GoboLinux-tools!

As I see, the SymlinkProgram and the RemoveBroken work good. I tryed the

checking if capabilities are built-in... yes
configure: error: *** Capabilities must be built as a module or kernel config.
PrepareProgram: configure failed.
Compile: Preparation step failed.

I figured it was either a poorly configured package, or I needed to update my Compile (it was from the original 014.01 iso).

While attempting to update compile:

InstallPackage Compile 1.13.3
InstallPackage: Source and destination directory are the same (/Programs/Compile/1.12.2)

I thought that was odd, so I went through and completely deleted the Compile directory.

Attempted it again:

InstallPackage Compile 1.13.3

Got further this time, but it came up with a warning saying the file hash generate with incompatible version of Scripts.

I figured I then had a update Scripts...

Tried:

InstallPackage Scripts 2.10.2
InstallPackage: Source and destination directory are the same (/Programs/Scripts/2.8.4)

dispose of udev, and create "static" device nodes. What else? Should I
expect problems? Or maybe, from some reason, it's not possible to have
stable system with 2.4?

I want to copy the running system from other machine, then made the
necessary changes on the destination disk (having it under control of
a system ran from CD).

Perhaps someone made something like this before?
