Speed - Lenny vs Squeeze

Hi!

I have used Squeeze a week now, and there are a lot of things to like.
But what I don't like, is that Squeeze seems to be slower. Booting is
slower, logging in takes longer time, and starting programs also takes
longer time.

I am using the same server hardware on both installations, same network,
same clients...

Anyone with the same experience?

Single sign on to windows?

Hi,

I tried to find out how to setup single sign on from a skolelinux client to a server 2008r2

We have some few (especially InDesign) windows programs we need to run, so unfortunatley I can't get rid of windows..

What I want to do is to create an application starter for the windows program that starts a rdesktop session for the skolelinux user.

Are there any way to get single sign on to work between skolelinux and server 2008r2?
The server are joined to the skolelinux domain, and rdesktop session works (somewhat, I have an issue with shelling into a program instead of starting the desktop, but I guess thats a windows issue.)

When googling around there are many guides for single sign on but they require a windows pdc with active directory, and in this setup its the tjener that works as a pdc.

Does it require more ldap integration between the server 2008 and skolelinux, than samba already gives me?

Anyone that has done this?

Sunny greetings /George

Any clue bout whats doing this?

Hi,

last night I got a half a cent idea for Diskless stations Kerberization.

What about exporting the chroot / file sistem containing a single /etc/krb5.keytab
containing all the nfs/disklessclients entries...

The single diskless unit should get its hostname via dhcp (assigned from MAC)
and then could pick the correct TGT key and preauthenticate.

The only problem would be to play a little with the boot sequence, so that
Kerberos TGT challenge will happen with correct timing.

The basic Idea is thus to protect exported homedirs and leave the rest as
cleartext filesystem.

Probably I was too tired and this idea is just bull****. At the moment
I have no testing time / hardware.

Best Regards

Debian Edu Packaging Team

Hi all,

as some of you might have read between the lines I would like to set
up a Debian Edu subteam that works on packaging Edu related software
for Debian.

One objective is keeping the software we need for Debian Edu inside of
Debian. Another is, of course, improving these packages and keeping
them up-to-date. These tasks have been in the hands of individuals so
far (i.e. the packages were person-maintained, not team-maintained).
Another task maybe seeing to getting latest D-E related hotfixes into
<stable>-proposed-updates.

The great advantage of team maintenance of Debian packages is that
individual packagers can step back for a while and see to things in
real life while (hopefully with a big team) others take over. Also,
new people can join the team and help with maintenance without the
need to take over a complete package immediately. Team maintenance can
also be a good place to learn (how to provide software for Debian).

I personally got interested into continuing maintenan

I dropped Steffen Joeris and Andreas Schuldei as project admins, and
added Mike Gabriel and Arnt Ove Gregersen av project admin. Arnt Ove
is one of the post masters of < at >skolelinux.no, and should have access
to the mailing lists on Alioth.

I also added Miriam Ruiz and Cajus Pollmeier as project members, based
on their submitted requests to join. Sorry Cajos for not replying earlier.
I hope the addition of new admins might speed up the process in the future.

Hi all,

for those curious about testing italc (v2) for Debian (also squeeze):

  $ git clone git://git.debian.org/debian-edu/italc.git
  $ cd italc
  $ git-buildpackage -uc -us

What is still on my todo list, is:

o make /etc/italc/italc.conf fully configurable via debconf (preseeding)
o customize group creation for teachers, others (+ admins? +supporters?),
     also via preseeding

With the current status you can use the iTALC internal tools for
configuration. Also see /usr/share/doc/italc-master/* for further
input once the package(s) are installed.

< at >Winnie: it would be good if you could give feedback about the package
becoming pkg-edu-devel team-maintained!!! (see /debian/control in the
src:package).

Greets,
Mike

Worked just fine

Then I tried without giving the users passwords in the csv-file.

The users was added, but no password was generated by GOSA.

Does this mean that I will have to either make passwords for all the users
in the csv-file, or set password for every single user in GOSA afterwards?

Hi,

we have decided to postpone the transition to apache2 2.4. The main blocker is that mod_perl needs a major new upstream release which very likely won't be ready in time for Wheezy and we don't want to release Wheezy without mod_perl.

The transition will probably happen shortly after the release of Wheezy. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

I have good relationship with HP reseller, that my provide us

Have you recommendations for LTPS - HP thin clients ? Compatible
models. Known problematic hardware?

Is it worth to use LTPS or is it better to make full installation
on a flashmem and use only NFS shares like on traditional workstations?

Consider that budget will NOT be an argument.
