Welcome to the South Bay Boardgamers. Our goal is to provide a fun, friendly venue for people to play games with each other -- mostly German-style or "euro" games since 2004. To that end, we have:

o A large gaming area (the Yahoo! cafeteria)
o A wide variety of games brought every Monday (feel free to bring your own!)
o A large pool of people -- you can go for months playing with different people each week.

Even if you've never tried these designer boardgames before, it doesn't take much to learn them. In fact, they stress simple rules and play so that even a beginner can have a decent chance against experienced players. We hope you will come and check us out if you are near the Sunnyvale area!

One thing to be aware of is that this group is allowed to use the Yahoo facility by the members being good citiz

My meeting with Security

Hi Boardgamers,

Andy and I just met with Yahoo! Security and it wasn't at all what I
expected.

The problem had nothing to do with tailgating (you're off the hook,
John). The problem was that a first time gamer showed up who was not a
Yahoo! and didn't know where to go. He asked Security for help. They
were put into the awkward position of having to either turn the guy away
or let him in unescorted. That time they decided to be generous and let
him in. Security informed me, however, that going forward this won't be
the case. Someone in that position will be turned away.

So, from now on if you invite someone to SBB, please meet him/her
outside of URL's and show him/her in yourself. Also, tell them the
rules such as not eating the free food, etc. The less involvement with
Security the better. We really don't want to annoy them. Our continued
use of URL's depends on their good will.

Furthermore we could use more Yahoo! points of contact for when
questions arise with Security. They have

Hi Everyone,

From time to time someone in Yahoo! security suddenly becomes aware of
SBB meeting in the Yahoo! cafeteria and has to discuss it with us. That
has happened again.

Are there any Yahoo!s who regularly attend the SBB gaming sessions on
Monday nights still. It's shameful, but I haven't made it down there
for a long time.

Hey all,

Apologies in advance for cross posting. I am relocating to Europe early
next year and selling most of my games. Here's the full list:
http://users.soe.ucsc.edu/~khullett/doku.php?id=games_sale

I can bring these to most local game nights or the Loudon Nelson or Los
Altos gamesdays in December or January, or meet in the city or on the
peninsula on weeknights (after 7) or elsewhere in the bay area on weekends.

All transactions will be made through BGG marketplace and I will pay their
3% commission. I'll also donate 3% of any transactions that come from SVB
or gamesday to the maintenance of those groups (if any other groups rely on
donations let me know).

I'll have everything up on BGG this weekend, but I wanted to give locals
the first pick. For now let me know what you want and I'll list them
separately. Payment can be either paypal or cash.

Feel free to make offers if buying multiple games.

Based on emails I got, I think there should be some uptake on this.
Please be on the lookout, and welcome your potential new hosts, and find room for them in games appropriate to their experience level.

We don't want to scare folks away.

Remember, the more Yahoos who are part of the group, the more secure the group is here, as it's more of a "group for employees", rather than just a bunch of non-employees that meet here.
