<pre>It's the right season for LARPing in the fresh air once again, so it's time
to drop a quick progress mail to ye all regarding Midway - the LARP that
combines airsoft guns, rubber swords and political intrigue into one
delicious lump.

We've been going since September 2009 now, running usually monthly on
Friday nights. We take on board new players quite frequently, and most
everyone finds us a friendly bunch. While we have roundabout 85 players "on
the books" our usual Friday night turnout is 25-35. We've run games at the
HRTA airsoft site in Swords, and when that closed recently we moved to Red
Barn, also in Swords.

It's a great time to climb aboard - we've just published our dates for the
next six months and there are two "residential" weekends planned in July
and September. There's no need to have played previously in order to attend
these, so if Friday nights don't suit you, come along for the weekend.

To give you an idea of what we do we've recently updated our website with
some new photos from older e</pre>

<pre>Hi folks,

I just want to give a public well-deserved thanks to this year's Gaelcon
committee (and of course staff, writers, GMs, traders, etc!).

Considering the committee had less than a week from the initial flooding
and the news that an alternative venue needed to be found, through to the
registration desk opening, everything seemed to go very smoothly indeed
from this attendee's side of the desk.

Highlights of the con for me (being biased) were my son, in his first ever
non-D&amp;D4E rpg, finding out what happens when you're playing Star Wars and
roll a botch when trying to throw a grenade (and that game had a huge
amount of botch rolls!), and in his second ever non-D&amp;D rpg, him helping to
kill Churchill by the simple expedient of turning into a statue to block
the exit from a lift. (It was his idea for his ultra-dense stone-form
superhero (well, more accurately, Nazi super-soldier) to be doing
jazzhands...)

I also got to play in a scenario which must take the prize for teh msot
tpyos pre chin ;-)

<pre>Gaelcon is pleased to be part of National Games Play Week!

National Game Playing Week is back from 28th October – 4th November when
schools and families all over the country get together to have fun playing
board games. The ever popular School Game Playing Day kicks off the week,
where pupils bring in their favourite board games, like Monopoly and
Operation, to play in class, while also raising money for their school or
chosen charity. While families are encouraged to join in the fun by hosting
a Family Games Night. To find out more about NGPW and how to get involved,
log on to www.ngpw.ie and watch out for special offers on board games in
stores nationwide.

(I'm the Irish designer, by the way, who persistently writes fringe games
for roleplayers)

Basically it's a mix of tarot, storytelling and exquisite corpse. Using
cards and a pencil, you and your friends will tell a story, recording it on
paper with doodles and glyphs. The complete game includes 72 illustrated
oracle cards in a classy tuck box, with rules packed within. There will also
be a more extensive rules PDF with "Director's Commentary," which is pretty
exciting. If you'd like to learn more, I made a video of myself on
IndieGoGo.

No tricks - no gimmicks - this is an 8-round Pub Quiz, with 8

<pre>Hello Irish gamers. I'm shamelessly angling for your vote in this year's
Ennie awards. There's a couple of Irish products, including the Laundry game
by Gareth Hanrahan.

Also, there's a good chance that *Hell for leather* can win Best Free
Product in the Ennie awards this year. A really good chance. It's a complete
game with 90 pages of illustrated text, it's been backed up by ridiculous
amounts of playtesting, it has been edited by three different contributors,
and it offers gamers something totally new, something very different from
the competition. Also, there's only five nominees, so that's at least 4:1
odds, right?

Do you think *Hell for Leather Free Edition* is good enough to win? Do you
think it does something different enough and of high enough quality to
deserve a vote?

If you'd like to vote for the Ennies, here's the link:
http://www.ennie-awards.com/vote/

*Please forward this on to anyone you know, post it in Buzz or Google+ or
(if you can bare the damned thing) even Facebook.*
