Thank you!

Some bullet points for the interview:
*How and where did they hear about CMS?
*What were your motivations to adopt CMS for its use (library website or any other purpose)
*What were your decision making criteria? and What is the name of CMS used?
*What are the important benefits or advantages of a particular CMS over an old system or another CMS system they've used in the past?
*How was the learning curve?

why does a browser not know the results of a DNS lookup?

<pre>Hi,

If a person types an incorrect domain name in an address bar, the browser will prompt him or her to check the network connection. (It also prompts him or her to check the domain name.) For example, Mozilla Firefox will respond with

*****************************************

Check the address for typing errors such as
 ww.example.com instead of
 www.example.com

If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
 connection.

If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

*****************************************

Why does the browser not know that the network connection is fine, and simply prompt the person to re-examine the domain name? Does DNS not communicate with HTTP?

Any help with satisfying my curiosity would be much appreciated.

John

John

<pre>Hi,

We are in the process of making very old hand written documents available on the Web. The handwritten information has been typed up and converted to HTML, but we are hoping to provide links from this to the originals which will be in PDF format.

The originals are on microfilm. Each page is about six times as wide as it is high. We have scanned a sample, but find that when zooming in, it quickly becomes impossible to read the handwriting. Vertical lines which are on the microfilm become more of a problem when enlarging the image. Also, because of the document's dimensions, much of the document disappears off screen when zooming in, and a large scrollbar appears at the bottom of the screen.

A cleaner image and an ability to pan and zoom with the mouse would be ideal. What is the best way of achieving this? Any help would be much appreciated.

Regards
John

<pre>Greetings, all!

Tabatha Farney (University of Colorado Colorado Springs) and I are putting
the finishing touches on our LITA Guide about web analytics, and we'd like
to include two appendices: 1. a list of suggested free tools for analytics
use in libraries; and 2. a list of commonly used library products (CMSs,
catalogs, calendaring tools) to which one can quickly and easily add
third-party analytics capabilities. We'd like to get broad feedback on both
of these items. Please respond directly to me and Tabatha (who's cc'ed),
and if there's interest, I'll share with the list.

1. So, first question: *What products would you include in an appendix that
lists free analytics tools for libraries? *These are the products that we
are considering, and several of them are mentioned throughout the course of
the manuscript:

Google Analytics
Yahoo! Analytics
Piwik
Crazy Egg
AWStats
Percent Mobile
ClickTale
FaceBook Insights
Bango
StatCounter

<pre>Please excuse the cross-posting - I'm trying to gather some wisdom here and am casting my net wide.

We're looking to get started with When2Work for our desk scheduling. There are so many options available - we'd like to know how other libraries are using this product. In particular, if you have multiple desks to schedule, how did you set it up initially. Groups? Types of employee?

If anyone has a simple "this is how we set it up" document or tutorial, or a template of how you set your system up, we'd very much appreciate a peek. Best practices, hints and tips, cautionary tales! All are useful.

I figure this product has been around a while - I hate to spend a lot of time reinventing the wheel, as most libraries have similar scheduling challenges!

Any help you can give would be most appreciated. Feel free to reply to me off-list (email below) if you prefer.

Thanks!
