EZProxy load tests

<pre>Hi,

As you may already know, Laval is in the process of moving its EZProxy server to a new cluster of 3 EZProxy running on RedHat Enterprise virtual machines behind an F5 load balancer appliance. I would like to know if any of you have done load tests on their EZProxy server before. If so, I wonder if there are any guidelines to follow.

My first idead was to contact some of our main database vendors and ask them, first if they agree to take part in the process, second, if they could provide a list of documents (web pages, PDFs) URL we could use to do the load tests. I don't know if it's a good idea. Until now that's the only idea that comes to my mind.

Thanks in advance for any insight you could provide.

I'm using the following links to the individual elements of WoK.

http://apps.webofknowledge.com/?DestApp=WOS&amp;editions=AHCI
http://apps.webofknowledge.com/?DestApp=WOS&amp;editions=SCI
http://apps.webofknowledge.com/?DestApp=WOS&amp;editions=SSCI

On campus, these links resolve to the correct WoK citation index. Off campus, after logging in via EZproxy, they go to the main WoK page, where all of the citation index boxes are ticked. If I leave this page open and return to and click on my original link, this time the link resolves to the correct WoK citation index. Do you have any idea what the problem might be.

I'm using the following EZproxy config:

New Day Digital Config

<pre>
Hello everyone,

A faculty member brought to my attention this morning that our New Day Digital resource wasn't working via proxy. The error was that the following was not a valid starting point url:

   http://dma.iriseducation.org/index.php?dma=1&amp;del=S&amp;fmt=8&amp;title=201874&amp;seg=307246&amp;pid=13116&amp;maxbps=1500&amp;site=2&amp;license=8cd1496f9d6837a69a29976fad6b4de4&amp;sid=d6d0c9b53f40107e14d41a39d33b728d

I checked the recommended New Day Digital config to see if it had changed, which it had not:

   http://www.newdaydigital.com/faq.html (#11)

I decided to add a Host line just after the URL line:

   H dma.iriseducation.org

Now it works. Shouldn't all database stanza's in an Ezproxy config have a Host line? Anyways, mostly just wanted to pass along information to the list.

follow a route via the Case Search option on the menu as the red button
then has an http link!

Any help would be most welcome.

These are the article specific URLs found in citation records for ProQuest
databases. We are currently using proxy by port (I know this is not ideal.
I'm working with our IT department to switch to proxy by hostname, but it's
been slower than expected), which may be a big part of the issue. However,
we've been using this configuration for years, and the problem only cropped
up recently.

Previously, whether the user was behind the proxy server or not, the
document URLs would show up with our proxy prefix and then the original URL,
like so:

http://proxy.library.siue.edu:2048/login?url=http://search.proquest.com/docv
iew/446402119?accountid=13886

Now, they're showing up with the prefix and a rewritten URL, like this:

http://proxy.library.siue.edu:2048/login?url=http://proxy.library.siue.edu:2
205/docview/446402119?accountid=13886

It should work just fine. The problem is it doesn't. Here's where it
gets interesting. The moodle site uses https for all it's pages, Our
EZproxy also has an https login page. My technical contact at our
university claims it won't work because browsers don't send a referring
URL when the site is https. OCLC claims that as long as both sites have
https it should work, and recommends I use an http inspector to see what
the referring URL is. (I've looked at fiddler and the learning curve is
rather steep).

Has anyone been able to get this type of arrangement to work?

problem with kanopystreaming

<pre>Hi all;
I have a bit of a strange problem with Kanopy streaming.

Users off campus click the link, see our ezproxy login and then get right in.

The problem occurs when on campus.
We use NAT ip translation in our firewall and any time we try to reach their site from on campus we end up with a blank page in any version of any web bowser .

Now the curious thing is when I go to any of my servers that have a 1 to 1 ip translation I successfully reach the site, and the allow rule for ipaddresses that are set within ezproxy are acting as expected.

Everything I have on campus is within a /25 address range including the NAT external address. So there is no issue with non-contiguous addresses.

I have no rules banning anything on the NAT external address.
I can reach the site from the console of the ezproxy server itself.

Does anyone familiar with something funky that may happen with an Cisco ASA within this context?

Also here is the stanza I am using.

<pre>Hello, we are adding a GIS resource called Policymap. I am planning to develop a stanza, but wanted to ask- if anyone has added that resource to EZProxy already - could you let me know off-list? Thanks very much.

<pre>Good afternoon,

We are trying to track down an issue with the PubMed/MyNCBI/NIH logins –

With our current setup, we are ok with the general MyNCBI logon; however, when someone tries to use an eRA Commons/NIH Logon, we are getting an error. Anything that we need to modify to make that piece work?

Our current stanza is:

<pre>Hi All,

Here are the various stanzas I have tried to get the Print Measurements Bureau working and I am having no luck.

This is what they give me:

pmb.ca
67.199.146.239
kmrsoftware.net

This is what we had when it worked:

HJ www.kmrsoftware.net

And simply changing the IP address is not working.

Here are all the variations I have tried. (I am so useless at this!)
