Search/retrieve access is to library data what Gopher was to the web?

Hi all,

I am simply going to throw down the gauntlet and say that search/
retrieve access to library data is not good enough. For too long have
library data been trapped within data-silos only accessible through
obscure protocols. Why is access to library data still an issue? This
was solved in a matter of months on the web, when Excite (or whichever
search engine was first) was introduced. Why are there not at least
ten search engines containing the majority of the worlds bibliographic
data?

Yes, I am stating/asking the obvious.

So, Linked Data for libraries, anyone?

Best regards,
Martin, who really wants a discussion about Linked Data

Hi all,

I would like to announce that LIBRIS[1], the Swedish Union Catalogue,
is available as Linked Data[2].

Some examples, of which some may hurt your eye if looked at in a HTML-
browser; never fear, in time they will become beautiful, and might
even include a squiggly animation:

The Difference Engine

The Swedish Subject Heading for "Mödrar" (Mothers)

August Strindberg

The Royal Library:

In a terminal window you can use "curl" to see the content
negotioation in action:

curl --include --location --header accept:text/rdf+n3 "http://libris.kb.se/resource/bib/5060570
"

We have used a mix of ontologies (FOAF, SKOS, Bibliontology), focusing
on availability first rather than perfect representation of the
underlying MARC-record. That comes later. The RDF also exposes some
partd of our FRBR-algorithm, showing links betwee
