Appalachian Trail adventure book by hammock-hanging hiker...

In the book, Three Hundred Zeroes, I made a number of plugs for using a
hammock on the AT. Today Amazon.com plugged the book in a mass mailing.
Maybe we'll see new hammock hangers as a result of it. I've had a
number of readers write me to tell me they've gone off to get their ham
radio licenses as a result of reading the book, I haven't had anyone
indicate they decided on a hammock because of it.
Today Amazon.com <http://tinyurl.com/248ymjg> sent out a mass emailing
recommending THREE HUNDRED ZEROES <http://blog.threehundredzeroes.com/>
as a travel adventure read. If you enjoy non-fiction adventure, check it
out.

Hi, Guys-

I missed this post earlier.

Let me start with while I've slept in a hammock as I've backpacked for over 10 years, I have never owned a dog, so my comments are from observations of others with their dogs.

Wet and muddy: If I've gotten wet and muddy, I will clean up and get as dry as I can before getting into my sleeping gear. A dog has limits to what s/he can do in this regard. I could roll down a hill in the rain and will get off the dirt before getting anywhere near my nice down sleeping bag. Getting it wet or dirty could compromise my safety too much. If I get my hammock wet and dirty, my bag will follow suit. A piece of Tyvek on the ground, below your hammock, might give Fido a sheltered dry spot for sleeping near you when s/he's messy. With the side-zip, you may be able to reach down and pet him easily, if the bugs aren't too bad. You may hae to hang your hammock lower to make this work, no big deal.

Ticks are a big problem in many parts of the country. My dog-owner friends

Hi guys, new member here who needs help. I signed up a few weeks ago for a Hammockforums account. My account is partially inactive in that I can't post or reply to posts, like my account didn't get processed. I never got a confirmation email from any moderators either.

I'm wondering if anyone here can help get the word to someone over at hammockforums.net that I need my account activated.

My user name over there is SpyderTattoo.

Now that business is taken care of, I'm brand new to hammock camping. I live in Washington State on the rainy side of the Cascade Mountains. Just got my first hammock (grand trunk) for Christmas. I'm already planning on making a couple whoopie slings for myself as soon as I order the amsteel for it. I'm having a guy I know who has a business making rifle slings, make me a couple of tree-huggers too.

I've built myself a woodgas stove out of a 1qt paint can and progresso soup can just like that guy on the youtube videos. And I've made myself a couple backup alcohol stov

hello everyone,
i'm new to both this forum and hammocking & at last i'm posting this from mid-air in the backyard where i am spending my first night (13C/55F, no wind).
it's a new sensation & i'll need some time to get used to it, but i like it so far.
the only problem was that the tarp immediately developed a failure - a hook sewn from the same ripstop material got torn as i was tightening, but it was not a show-stopper :-)
cheers!
