Future of OS X Binary Installer

<pre>Hi Folks!

I'm going to take the announcement of Mountain Lion as an opportunity to
step down as maintainer of the OS X binary installer. I'll continue to
maintain it (unless someone wants to take over) until the release of
Mountain Lion, but I won't try to update it for 10.8.

I will be happy to keep working on the Unified Installer, and will update
it work with 10.8 after its release.

So, if we're to have an OS X binary installer in the future, we'll need a
new maintainer / developer. I'll be happy to help with the transition.

There are lots of opportunities for improving this installer. In
particular, it's had no GUI controller since Apple dropped support for
wxPython in Lion. If you're interested, you can take a look at the
installer's existing code base at https://github.com/plone/Installers-OS-X.

<pre>Hi,

Just some further notes for posterity (in no particular order):
      * If you rerun "bin\installer.exe" you need to delete the "docs"
dir in the installation dir otherwise the script will fail.
      * When you install InnoSetup, you need to ensure there's no spaces
in the directory name that InnoSetup is installed in.
      * I also installed the Windows SDK. I used SDK 6.1 for Windows
        2008 R2 (64-bit edition).
      * Seemed like I also need to ensure the install dir defined in
installer.cfg was the same 'case' (i.e. lower/upper) as the
existing installation dir (i.e. if I'd run the installer.exe
already). This may've just been a symptom of my particular
        install.
      * You need to ensure you update the "path" environment variable to
include the "bin" directory for your Windows SDK compilers. In
        my case this was: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows 6.1
        \Bin.
      * The process I followed in creating the custom windo</pre>

Hi,

Ok, I've progressed past my previous error from yesterday by installing
Plone 4.1.2 in another directory (as opposed to the directory
enfold.recipe.innosetup was configured to 'install to') and I now need
to be able to specify about 5 custom-rolled packages in the
enfold.recipe.innosetup config. Any tips on how I can do this? "bin
\installer.exe -h" doesn't offer any obvious options.

Thanks in advance,
Tim

public subversion; so if someone wants to build Windows installers (innosetup)
the information is there. Just requires the motivation.

We have put a pop-up at the end of the installation to drive people to
Enfold Proxy.
There is now a FREE version of Enfold Proxy 7.1. This means people using
Plone 4.1 &amp; Enfold Proxy can integrate Plone into their existing IIS
infrastructure
as well as use SSL, etc. Our existing documentation for Proxy will be very
useful to users configuring the limited/free version.

On to the differences:

1. Obviously there is a pop-up which explains Enfold Proxy. We have released
a free non-expiring version. We recommend everyone use it. Not only because
we wrote it but also because most people want to run Plone on port 80 or with
SSL. Th</pre>

<pre>For everybody's information, neither the Unified Installer nor the OS X
Binary installer currently work with Lion.

The Unified Installer probably won't be too hard to fix, and shouldn't be
too long a wait. The binary installer, though, is going to take substantial
work, as Apple has removed its support for the wxWidgets library, which was
used to provide the Plone Controller and various dialogs. If anyone is
interested in helping work on that, drop a note to the installers's team

<pre>Hey folks,

Not sure what the process is here so apologies if I'm just landing
this on you or if there's information missing. I've made the 3.3.6
release (available at dist.plone.org/release/3.3.6 and also 3.3-
latest), could you make the installers please?

Thanks!
