apt-get install libbz2-dev

Also, the libreadline package has been renamed:

Our dear users need guidance how to edit files on a remote (UNIX) server

Does anyone have good links, so we don't need to document this ourselves?

I have created a Travis CI job to check collective.developermanual for
Sphinx errors:

However Travis tells me something depressing:

Executing your install (bin/buildout) took longer than 900 seconds and was

handles Web Scale™

How to make c.developermanual buildout faster....?

<pre>Hi there

Putting this out there for your thoughts:

By starting a new line at the end of each sentence, and splitting sentences
themselves at natural breaks between clauses, a text file becomes far
easier to edit and version control. Text editors are very good at
manipulating lines — so when each sentence is a contiguous block of lines,
your editor suddenly becomes a very powerful mechanism for quickly
    rearranging clauses and ideas.

And your version-control system will love semantic linefeeds. Have you ever
changed a few words at the beginning of a paragraph, only to discover that
version control now thinks the whole text has changed?

Documentation tends to be a rather personal thing, with different people used
to their own styles and the preferences of the editors that they use.

However it's also something we maintain in common, and that we version using
line-oriented tools.

As such, it would be g</pre>

First, some toplines:

Our docs section got about 500k visits in the past year originating
with a search (the vast majority of searches from Google, no surprise
there.) We also had about 85k searches on plone.org, excluding
searches originating in the Products section. So, while it is true
that most of people "search plone.org via Google" we are still seeing
a substantial fraction of search usage happening internally. So I
think it is important that we continue to invest in making plone.org
searching as good as it can be.

I also think it is interesting to look at the most commonly used

<pre>Hi all,

After successful take down of api.plone.org I hope to continue my kill it
with fire spree.

http://plone.org/documentation/manual/developer-manual has not seen recent
updates.

It contains vast amount of deprecated information.

Does anyone actively maintain it? Last update is ~300 days ago.

My suggestion is that we move everything to Sphinx doc and take down the
section on plone.org. Some parts have been moved already.

Of course this would involve some politics as I believe official developer
manual is copyrighted by the foundation, but collective docs are by
individual contributors.

<pre>Hi,

I noticed mikko removed the conversion code from collective-docs that
could upload it to plone.org.

I think using read-the-docs is great but I disagree that we shouldn't
also have an up to date copy on plone.org.
The reason being that newbies might use plone.org search to find
documentation or a google search of site:plone.org to try and find
answers.

Other than the technical issue of how to keep the docs in sync inside
plone, is there any reason not to have this manual duplicated on
plone.org?

<pre>Hi,

What it would require to take down api.plone.org? Currently the latest "api"
is 3.0.

This site is misleading people (being found in Google and stuff):

<pre>Hi,

I'd like to volunteer to help with the Plone docs. I can update the
"Installing on Windows"
page, since I've just installed the new Plone-4.1.2 on Windows.

If someone could give me the appropriate permissions that would be great.

Thanks,

New user to Plone 4.1 - no option to set Username/Password in Windows installer.

<pre>We're investigating various Intranet tools to help replace our antiquated .ASP-driven website. This week it's the turn of Plone.

I've just downloaded and run: setup-plone41-4.1.2-5119-win32 and in step 6 of the instructions on the website - http://plone.org/documentation/manual/installing-plone/installing-on-windows - it says I should be prompted by a wizard for a Username and Password. I've tried installing once, removing it (removing any files left behind, naturally) and reinstalling it. I'm not asked for a Username or Password during the set-up procedure.

I can run Plone afterwards but I cannot get further than the 'Create a new Plone site' option as that's asking me for a Username and Password which I've not been given the chance to set up.

Likewise, there is reference in the instructions to a Plone Windows Controller which should be setup with the above installer - I get nothing of the sort. There isn't a Plone group in my Windows menus at all.

Any help is appreciated

Dexterity Developer Manual - WebDAV

<pre>Hey,

I just tried adding dexterity content via WebDAV. The small snippets in section 6.15 WebDAV and other file representations where very helpful.

http://plone.org/products/dexterity/documentation/manual/developer-manual/advanced/webdav-and-other-file-representations

However, I believe the part about custom IFileFactory could use a small enhancement.

In my code I had to change the call

session = createObject('example.conference.session')

to

session = createObject('example.conference.session', id=name)

else the newly created content object is not getting an id at all.

I guess this happens, because there is no NameChooser being called during WebDAV content creation, which should not be done anyway, but because of this the id needs to be set upfront.

cheers

Gerhard
