<pre>
Zope 2.13 is based on the ZTK 1.0. There's no version of Zope 2 that
uses ZTK 1.1 and a potential Zope 4 is aiming at a future ZTK 1.2
(currently ZTK master).

So from Zope 2's and Plone's perspective the ZTK 1.0 tests are vital
and should be supported for the next couple of years. The only
difference is that Zope 2 requires at least Python 2.6, so testing
Python 2.5 + ZTK 1.0 isn't required.

And this shouldn't be all too hard, as there's no major differences
between ZTK 1.0 and 1.1.

<pre>The declaration-syntax warnings in the zope.interface 4.0.0 are
annoying and mostly pointless.

There will be enough pain in porting applications to Python 3,
avoiding the surprise of having to use a different
interface-declaration syntax will not be of any consequence.

While the deprecation warning may provide some tiny benefit,
the annoyance, especially for applications or libraries that still
support Python 2.5 far outweights the benefit.

I propose that these deprecation warnings be removed.

<pre>-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

I created a bunch of SVN churn today, setting up "stable" branches for
use by the ZTK 1.0 and 1.1 development modes.. We've talked about it in
the past, but I realized that keeping those trees using trunk checkouts,
even partially, was too painful: the straw which broke this camel's back
was realizing that fixing deprecation warnings (about
zope.interface.implements etc.) might break the bots, because they would
pull in code which was intended only for Python 2.6 and later.

I believe that this state (the released ZTK trees depending on "release
branches", rather than trunks), is actually where we wanted to be all
along, only it seemed too much effort at the time.

zope.i18n plural form support

<pre>Hi,

I added the plural form support (see a corresponding ticket here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/zope.i18n/+bug/161985) in a separate branch:
https://code.launchpad.net/~thomas-massmann/zope.i18n/plural. This code
was mainly implemented during the 2012 Plonekonf in Munich.

It is already in "production" since 3 months in a project I'm developing
right now. Please note that zope.i18nmessageid needs to be taken from
this branch to work:
https://code.launchpad.net/~thomas-massmann/zope.i18nmessageid/plural.

Extracting plural messages is supported by xgettext by default. Zope
tools like i18nduder have to be adjusted (they don't support ungettext
right now). I already adjusted lingua by Wichert Akkerman
(https://github.com/tmassman/lingua) - the pull request is still open.

Cheers,
Thomas

Puzzle re zope.pytest

<pre>Are many folks using zope.pytest? We're looking into it but, for such a
small amount of code, are finding it a bit odd and seemingly broken.

Breaking down the basic creation of an application object, here is what
the code does, with indentation to show what a method call performs:

create_app()
  db = setup_db()
    storage = DemoStorage(name)
    db = DB(storage, database_name=name)
    db.setActivityMonitor( ZODB.ActivityMonitor.ActivityMonitor() )
    notify( zope.processlifetime.DatabaseOpened(db) )
    return db
  connection = setup_connection(db)
    return db.open()
  connection.root()[ZopePublication.root_name]['test'] = site_root

My issues are:

1) the DatabaseOpened event is sent out _before_ the ZODB is actually
opened, making it hard to use handlers to initialize a test layout in
the ZODB.

2) there are no other events emitted, such as after root is initialized.

3) there is a key lookup of "ZopePublication.root_name" inside
connection.root() before any code has _set_ such a key, raising a key</pre>
