Hello Lumiera hackers,

our regular developer meeting would be due next week.
Just the question is: what day of the week works best for all?

Last time we did the meeting on Thursday 20:00 UTC -- maybe we should
just stick to this schedule? Would that work for everyone?

On a related note: Debian-7.0 was released, and I used some spare time
last week to upgrade my systems here too; our devel-server is also upgraded
since some time; my guess is we could declare Debian-6 as "deprecated" now.

Cheers,
Hermann

First off, I'd like to apologize for not being present in the meetings or
active on the mailing list. And especially not being able to do any
hands-on work in the GUI. Wednesdays have been increasingly becoming
busier and busier for me. By the time the meeting rolls around, i'm
usually wrapped in something else that can't be interrupted.

A little info on what I've been doing. I work for BKE, LLC

instead of doing server admin and the websites. We are in the business of
developing Audio hardware/software products.

Since my transition I've learned many many things that I want to contribute

understanding of:

1.) Nearly complete LV2 plugin host support, and plugin authoring. I also
started maintaining the LV2 c++ wrappers over here http://lvtoolkit.org

2.) MTC/SMPTE Slave Implementation. This is properly done using a delay

Hi all,

today the next developer meeting would be due. Actually I have not much to
discuss on my part -- so I'll just be in IRC at #lumiera this evening after
20:00 UTC.
In case there is something really important to discuss, we could arrange
another meeting. I hadn't time to do much in the last two weeks, and before
that I just continued to code at my current topics in the Player and Engine
interface.

Cheers,
Hermann

There's a few things I'm still not sure of.

Thinfs like xref:placement[&lt;-] are probably some kind of cross-references.
But the back-arrows that appear on the web page are confusing. They're
obviously links of some kind, but they appear to lead nowhere.

Stuff I still find confusing I've marked with double question marks.
Other places I've inserted comments about things I'm not really sure of,
hoping to deal with these later.

Is there some convention within the Lumiera community how to do this?
I've noticed a few "to be written" lines in red. Might that be a way
I could identify other more minor to-do items, such as what I've marked
up using ?? and // ?

I don't expect this is my final edit, for the reasons mentioned above,
But except fpr a few details such as whether some of them should appear
in red or be invisible, I think they are ready for review and check-in.

Hi Lumi hackers,

sine parts of the player and the memory management in the low level model
increasingly rely on some properties of the planned scheduler within the render
engine. While we've discussed that topic before, actually, we haven't written
down the requirements for the scheduler, beyond a notice within the TiddlyWiki.
Other To correct that omission, I've created a new RfC for discussion and
defintion of these requirements. My intention was that we might discuss
and clarify those requirement during our dev meeting today...

Hi all,

while polishing the documentation, especially the "Outer Space" text (Intro
page), we ran into an interesting discussion about how to state the Vision of
this project. While we've arrived meanwhile at a much smoother wording, it
seems that the chain of thoughts (for us, participants in this discussion)
is not so outright clear and obvious.

The problem seems to be centred
- at the question what we understand as "professional"
- how to derive -- from that understanding -- at some key properties
of an "professional tool" (which is what we want to create in this project)

Just to re-quote the section -- currently we have two slightly different
wordings (both of which meanwhile seem to be quite polished w/r to the language)

Over the weekend I've worked on the documentation that was changed in /lumiera/ichthyo/documentation. Unfortunately, my internet connection went down yesterday afternoon, and was still down this morning. As soon as service is restored, I'll push my modifications to the Lumiera site.

I've bascially worked through any documentation that was modified between /lumiera/ichthyo/documentation and the main master LUMIERA repo. I just cleaned up the language somewhat in most of those files.

However, for the all important intro.txt I did some more careful proof reading. All obvious corrections to this file I've grouped into one (or possibly two commits, can't recall). I've also made a proposal for the section Vision, which I've committed separately with relevant commit comments.

intro.txt is still not finished, but it's ever so much better than in the past. In particular, the connection between the section Vision and the rest of the text has been restored somewhat---that section doesn't look a bit like 'L</pre>

<pre>
Hi Lumi hackers,

just a small notice, I've pushed some larger refactorings and clean-ups to
master recently, as far as I know, no one is currently coding close to master
right now, so it seemed a good opportunity. Basically, I'm planning to do a
"preview release" soon; this doesn't contain any *visible* changes, but a lot of
cumulated clean-up and reworkings under the hood. The purpose of these "preview
releases" is just to practice the release process and have something to test the
package building.

In the last weeks I've resolved some dependency problems between our internal
libraries. This became obvious due to linking problems on Ubuntu-Precise (so
yes, doing such a round of packaging from time to time indeed pays off).
As a follow-up, I've now largely re-arranged our test cases and changed the
way they are linked.

Cheers,
Hermann

<pre>
Hello all,

according to our usual habits it's time for our developer meeting.
As usual, the next regular Lumiera developer meeting is scheduled

Wednesday, January 9, 2013 -- starting 20:00 UTC

The meeting will be held on freenode.net in #lumiera
Please speak up if this schedule doesn't work for you.
While there aren't any development-related topics requiring urgent
discussion right now, I think there is lots of stuff related to our
current documentation work, the website tools, my (now finished) clean-up
of cross dependencies and the pending RFCs.

Everyone is welcome, feel free to ask questions or propose further
topics for discussion.

Cheers,
Hermann V.

Hello Benny,
Hello Hendrik,

in the last days, you've helped a lot to get the Lumiera documentation into a
more polished shape. I'd like to thank you for all your efforts.

Today I've collected your recent contributions, and integrated most of them into
the public website right away. The edited pages give a much more finished
impression now.

Overview of the merges done

For the website repository, I've done a merge staging -&gt; master, this way
including Hendrik's latest changes to the project page. The website-staging
repository remained as-is, no need to update here.

Next I investigated the leftovers of our former TiddlyWikis and integrated some
further pages into the documentation website. Now, the only remaining TiddlyWiki
is my "extended brain", the Proc-Layer/Renderengine wiki.
I'll continue to extract finished parts and transfer them to the main
documentation section as time permits.

Benny, I've carefully reviewed all your tweaks to the "Outer Space" page.

Some documentation updated

<pre>Hi Hendrik,
My modem has been on the blink recently, but was up last night, so I updated a few documents last night which might be of interest to you.

My modifications are at lumiera/benn, so you can fetch this to a branch on your local machine and have a look; or you might prefer to wait until these are merged into the main development master branch. Someone will review my contributions. Lumiera/benn is just the main development branch plus my additional modifications. I've micro-commited, which is my jargon for frequent and small commits. That makes it much easier for the reviewer. Moreover, if some stuff is rejected by the reviewer, the accepted, micro-commits will still make it into the main development branch.
Typically the reviewer will merge all my micro-commits into one commit, or just a few commits. That just makes thinks easier reviewing the history later on.

My changes were to the files under Documenattion-&gt;User-&gt;Tutorials, found in the menu at lumiera.org.

I've reworked contributing.txt,</pre>

Mailinglist server Maintenance notice

<pre>The Lumiera Mail and List server (and all other mailinglists hosted
there) will be down for a upgrade, don't worry if your mails (well,
there where no much recently) don't come through. It will be back soon.

Another issue is that the Cinelerra ML is down since some time, I hope
our admins will resolve this soon and we can migrate the Mailinglist to
our own Server.
