Hello everyone,
I am relatively new to miktex and i am facing a problem i am not able to solve for 2 days now. I want to write a document in both gree and english so after i bit of searching and asking I concluded to something like this: \documentclass[11pt]{article}\usepackage[english,greek]{babel}
\usepackage[iso-8859-7]{inputenc}

\newcommand{\en}{\selectlanguage{english}}
\newcommand{\gr}{\selectlanguage{greek}}
\newcommand{\lquotes}{\en``\gr}
\newcommand{\rquotes}{\en''\gr\xspace}

\begin{document}

\en This is an English text. \gr αβγδε. \en
English again! \gr αβγδε.
\end{document} After finally downloading and making iso-8859-7 able to be seen by the system I am now facing an error :

<pre>I am trying to get biblatex, biber, tex4ht, and MikTeX 2.9 to play nicely. There is some issue with synchronization of components. So, I decided to update packages, hoping that this would fix the issue.

1) Regardless of what I update, I get to the first package, and get a Windows API error 87: The parameter is incorrect. At that point, the update terminates, and does not finish.

2) I would like to force MikTeX to re-download biblatex to ensure that my version is current and properly installed. How do we force the re-install of a package that is not needing an update?

order to update the rest packages. But my Norton 360 SONAR control

hard disk, with the announcement that copystart_admin.exe has commited
suspicious activity! I tried to launch the main menu item
MiKTeX-&gt;Maintenance-&gt;Update (i.e. the program copystart.exe), and the
result was the same - Norton 360 SONAR removed copystart.exe from the
hard disk, with the same announcement written with boldface red letters.

<pre>i use miktex 2.9, i set it to ask me before installing stuff on the fly (because i want to see when that happens).

that works perfectly when i call pdflatex manually.

it does not however when techniccenter calls pdflatex. this is a well known problem (pdflatex.exe reports "GUI framework cannot be initialized"), and i have not found a solution yet (disabling the asking or doing the installs beforehand are no solutions).

i also have not found an explanation or reason for that. why would it be a problem for an application to open a gui if it was called by another application instead of manually?

who is "at fault"? pdflatex or the editor?

regards,
peter

how to insert one figure as part of the other figure ..

<pre>Hi, everybody, here I have a problem which I have tried many times to solve but failed to solve. Your help would be very much appreciated.

Suppose that I have two eps figures A and B. Usually, I use
\begin{figure}
\centering
\includegraphics[totalheight=90mm]{A.eps}
\caption{Show Figure A}
\end{figure}

Now my problem is this: I want to insert another eps figure B.eps (as a small annotating figure) inside Figure A, i.e. inside the bounding box defined by
\includegraphics[totalheight=90mm]{A.eps}. I do not want to affect both the position of Figure A and its caption either.

How could I do this?

Many thanks, and my kindest greetings.

Recursive search on TEXINPUTS or --include-directory?

<pre>Hello!

The miktex MiKTeX manual lists three possibilities for additional source directories:
(1) --include-directory command line
(2) TEXINPUTS environment variable
(3) registering an additional TEXMF directory.

I have a TEXMF directory structure as part of a (larger) project tree.
Registering it with the miktex management tools
carries a dependency on my project working copy location into my
MiKTeX setup, which I'd like to avoid. I would like to specify it
with it's relative location to the working directory when calling pdflatex.

Is there a possibility to add a TEXMF directory structure (or
an input directory for recursive search) temporarily through a command line
or environment variable?

Could you explain it?

<pre>Dears

I have just moved to miktex2.9 and I am using it under Emacs 24.0.50.1

In earlier versions I just point at

\cite command in command menu of emacs and then I am directed to my bib
file to get the reference I need

The \cite command does not exist now in the command menu of eamcs

Does anyone know how to do the same in miktex2.9

Thanks in advance

Ayman

<pre>I have recently converted my LaTeX install to MikTeX which solved a number
annoyances, unfortunately, in the process I seem to have lost access to
IEEEtrantools, of which I extensively use IEEEeqnarray. All attempts to load
the package into MikTeX have failed. As an alternative I downloaded the
IEEEtrantools.sty file, but don't know where to place it in the MikTeX
directory structure to make it effective. Can you help?

Thanks, Reinhard Neuwirth

When updating a package or installing one, I have both the admin and non-admin versions. I am the sole user.

Which should I use? Always ADMIN? Always non-admin?

<pre>Hi all,

Today, I updated MIKTeX and now I have a problem. If I compile a file
whose contents are

\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{xfrac}
\begin{document}
$\sfrac{1}{2}$
\end{document}

then I get this error message:

! Missing number, treated as zero.
&lt;to be read again&gt;
                    \relax
l.4 $\sfrac{1}{2}
                  $
A number should have been here; I inserted `0'.
(If you can't figure out why I needed to see a number,
look up `weird error' in the index to The TeXbook.)

What is happening here? I am going to add the full log file after the
end of this message.

Best regards,

Jose Carlos Santos
