Hi folks,

I've always wanted to know how the 20MB cards I am occasionally
parting with look from the inside. Here is the result:

http://www.pda-soft.de/memorycard1.jpg
http://www.pda-soft.de/memorycard2.jpg

Just in case someone is inclined to find some datasheets and check
if this card can be coerced into 5V/5V operation (which would make
it writable in eMates), go ahead. I'll gladly give it a try, but I
haven't the time right now to find out if the attempt would have
any chance of success.

Just in case someone wants such a card, I have still some left.

to the section on ethernet cards, etc. I'd really like to get wireless
going with my "new to me" 2000 and 2000U.
Reading Hirochi Noguchi's page, it looks like the wireless card to get
would be Lucent WaveLAN/IEEE Gold which he shows in his chart. It looks
like the driver to get would be " Latest Version: ver
1.08a". Would it be important to go for the 128 bit card? Does the WEP
key in hexa-decimal refer to entering a sort of password?

Thanks,

Introduction:New Newton Owner- OS 9 vs OSX ?

Hello All,

I've just been a Newton owner for about 2 weeks, buying a MP110 off
ebay for playing around with. Well, I liked it so much, I bought 2
MP2000's (one upgraded) with all the manuals, a flash card, and a modem
card from the same seller on ebay. I've received a cable from JK Sales
with interconnect on one end and DB9 on the other, so I'm trying to
solve the connection issues. I also bought a fax modem for the MP110
for transfering data by fax. I've barely had time to do anything with
the 2000's (going to give one to my child for Christmas), but I know I
want to download some software. I have an old Dell with a DB9
connector, but I prefer a Powermac G4 with OSX 10.3 as my main
computer. I can get a DB9 to USB converter cable to use the Mac for my
Newton connection. I received all the NCU disks for both Mac and PC
with the MP2000's, but I'm trying to decide whether to go with the NCX
utility for OSX or partition my HD on the G4 and add OS 9. What's the
better OS for working with the Newt

Does anyone have one of these they'd be willing to part with?

If so, please let me know your asking price. Because the dongle is a small and relatively fragile item, I would ask that it be shipped in a small box. Shipping would be to the SF Bay Area and I would prefer to pay for this via PayPal.

Please shoot me a mail off-list and we'll go from there.

The case just split at the SER-001, and I had it done long enough ago

Newted Community Status Update

After several fruitless attempts to resurrect the Newted Community
server, I disassembled the Cobalt Qube and extracted the bothersome
hard drive. The drive will soon be winging its way to the good folks
at Datacent for appraisal and ultimate recovery.

Hopefully.

The site backups and existing bits of data from the server were not as
complete as I had originally thought. Yes, I do have a few significant
chunks of the site available for republishing, but there are several
gigabytes of personal directories and other information that remain
buried on the hard drive. This is why I have decided to go ahead with
the process of data recovery.

For some backstory of this whole sordid affair, please refer to this
previous post:

I would also like to apologize for the radio silence. To be honest, I

Hi, folks,

I'm back, enjoying my newish Newt 2000. In a fit of enthusiasm, I transferred all of my GTD projects and todos into Nitch and the Project Stationery it installs. So far so good!

But I use Standalone's Super Notepad 1.87. First, this caused odd formatting in the Notepad--text / buttons appear behind SNP's arrows / etc buttons at the top of the display--with Nitch is installed. Unless Nitch is loaded after SNP (i.e. freeze Nitch, reset, thaw Nitch = beautiful Notepad display back)--so, a workaround.

Secondly and a little more disturbingly, I was unable to access one of my Nitch projects (in the Projects folder, which I've got Nitch watching). I could see it in the overview, but if I tapped its title there, I arrived at an adjacent note. Scrolling brought me to the note on its other side. Moving the notes adjacent to it, using SNP's Move Note function, simply changed which two adjacent notes I saw. Fearing data corruption, I deleted the offending project and restored it from a text-only X-Port (whi

Greetings list,
I just acquired a MP 130 - and am having some difficulty
getting it to work properly.
Here are a couple of issues I've been having:
I have been able to load a couple of packages using NCX but it
seems now every time
I try to open "Connection" it give me this message:
      "Sorry, a problem has occurred. (77) "
I had loaded up Avi's Backdrop and made it the default
background but every time I
tried to open the recent package menu, it gave me the same error.
In fact, pretty much every package I try to use gives me the
same one.
I've seen a couple of others, but of course now that I have my
130 next to me it won't
do it. :)

Am I in deep trouble or is this something which can be
remedied? I looked up this "77"
on the Newton Error Code list but found nothing.
On the same subject, if it comes down to it, how do I perform a
brain wipe and start over?
Is it the same way as on the MP 2x00?

       Thanks for your time,
       Scot

MP3 Rate

You can use a fairly low bit-rate (It's actually prefereable) and get a?decent-sounding MP3 file for your Newton.
I think I covered this topic in my eBook on Converting MP3 files for the Newton.? Check the Newton Library for it.

MP3 Rate?

I have some MP3 files that I want to downsample for playing as "background
muzak", (ie, quality is not the highest thing on my priority list). What is
the correct rate to downsample these for playing on a 2100?

Thanks.

Hello,
With my MP2K I've a dongle to connect the Newton to Mac/Pc; can you tell if
the following info, got on the Internet, is ok also for the dongle 8 pin
mini-din found on the dongle? It should be, due to the fact the MP2K can
prin on Apple printers.
Thanks - Lionello

8 PIN MINI-DIN FEMALE at the computer.

It's possible to connect RS-232 peripheral to the RS-422 port available on
Macintosh computers. Use RXD- as RXD, TXD- as TXD, Ground RXD+, Leave TXD+
unconnected, GPi as CD.
