I’m a new user of WPKG, and I have trouble to deploy client on my AD Domain.
This domain is run by samba4, I don’t know if there is trouble to do so.

When I try to deploy with http://wpkg.org/WPKG_Client#Group_Policy_WPKG_mix
I don’t work and trow an error wich says :

And it fails.

What I’m I doing wrong ? Did someone as a clue to resolv this, and lead me
to the good way ?

Users can access the \\domain.tld\wpkg <file:///\\domain.tld\wpkg> share.
Hosts are push by the python script from AD.

The batch file :

< at >ECHO OFF

cscript \\serv.domain.tld\wpkg\wpkg.js /install:gplwpkgclient

*** It give the same error without a batch like in the wiki

Has anyone managed to deploy G/Drive without having a Google Apps
subscription?

I found http://support.google.com/a/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=2490101
which points to an out of date msi,
https://dl.google.com/drive/gsync_enterprise.msi.

Am I missing something here, can G/Drive be deployed or is it not aimed
at that type of market?

Thanks

Checking for Adobe Flash Player ActiveX and Plugin(check results)

Dear All,

I've installed and uninstalled Flash by adding / removing the profile to
/ from the host.

Now there's a rather strange check result:

<check result="true" value="%PKG_VERSION%" path="Adobe Flash Player .+
Plugin.*" condition="versiongreaterorequal" type="uninstall"/>

<check result="false" value="%PKG_VERSION%" path="Adobe Flash Player .+
ActiveX.*" condition="versiongreaterorequal" type="uninstall"/>
</checkResults>

The tests were:

<check type="uninstall" condition="versiongreaterorequal" path="Adobe
Flash Player .+ ActiveX.*" value="%PKG_VERSION%" />

<check type="uninstall" condition="versiongreaterorequal" path="Adobe
Flash Player .+ Plugin.*" value="%PKG_VERSION%" />

Both registry keys don't exist now.

Why is one of the results true, the other one false?

When I add the profile to the host again the ActiveX and the Plugin
Version is reinstalled. I thought the check is skipped, if there's a
positive result in wpkg.xml. Why is the Plugin installed?

Thank you in advance.

I'm starting to move out of XPsp3 32 bit, moving also to WPKG-GP.

Anyway, i've setup a test recipe (for WPKG-GP, of course) and added to
profiles.xml:

    <profile id="default" architecture="x86" >
        <depends profile-id="base" />
        <package package-id="xptweaks-disable-csc" />
    </profile>

    <profile id="default" architecture="x64" >
        <package package-id="wpkg-gp" />
        <package package-id="wpkg-gp-settings" />
    </profile>

If i start WPKG on the win7 x86 box, in the log i can see that wpkg
correctly idetify the os as 'x64', apply profile 'default' but start to
install packages on 'base' profile plus 'xptweaks-disable-csc'
packages.

What i'm missing? Thanks.

For the check I've tried both "uninstall" & "file".
The software seams to install just fine. In the event viewer it says the
Windows Installer completed successfully with 0 errors, but then on the
next line it says failed check after installation. The .log file from
msiexec also says it was successfully, but when I log into the
workstation the msiexec process is still running, but 0% activity.

Now every time I reboot it tries to install again, even though it's
already installed.
So why are my checks failing?

wpkg for crapware removal?

Hi all,

I just inherited a new client whose workstations have users logged in as
local administrators; the net result is a ton of crapware.

I considered creating wpkg packages for the crapware with only a
"remove" section to a) simplify cleanup, and b) ensure that machines
remain clean, since a handful of users will be retaining local admin
privileges.

So, my questions:
* Has anyone else tried this? Do they have any package definitions to
share?
* Should I bother posting these package definitions to the wpkg wiki? I
don't want to load up the wiki with entries for software no one would
ever use, but I know that other folks may also benefit from these
definitions.

Thanks!

Architecture being ignored when installing

Hello,

I've been updating all of my package definitions so that they work properly
in a mixed 32/64 environment, but I'm having a problem in that the
architecture seems to be getting ignored.

For example, in my iTunes package I have the following:
        <install architecture="x86" cmd='msiexec /i
"%SOFTWARE%\itunes\%version%-x86\AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi" /passive
/norestart /qn' timeout='300' />
        <install architecture="x64" cmd='msiexec /i
"%SOFTWARE%\itunes\%version%-x64\AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi" /passive
/norestart /qn' timeout='300' />

When WPKG runs however, it always runs the x86 version. If I switch the
order around it still runs the x86 version. The same thing is happening on
all of our workstations. I've made sure the package revision was
incremented, I've even reimaged a few of the machines to see if that made a
difference but it has not.

Strangely, if I run wpkg.js in a terminal window with /debug, it tries to
run the proper file (but fails due to the software variable no

On line 2033 of wpkg.js (v1.3.0) attributes are copied into newSettings

to crash saying this:

Does order of the host entries matter?

I don't understand

( from http://wpkg.org/Regular_expression_support )

Does this mean the first match wins and the others are ignored?

Is there any way to define host groups and to assign programs (or
profiles) to individual hosts at the same time?

What I would like is to do a profile which has 2 different versions of the same program (Adobe Reader) and if the host attributes match the first one, it will install it, but if they don't (in any other case) it will install the other one :

<profile id="AdobeReader">
                <package package-id="adobereader_en" os="windows embedded.+" lcid="409"/><!-- Only if Windows Embedded -->
                <package package-id="adobereader"/><!-- Mui version -->

I've tried using the regexp "!embedded" but it doesn't seem to work.

I'm wondering if I am missing something somewhere, but I wonder if we can set the variable SOFTWARE "globally" -- like in the wpkg.xml file …or in the packages.xml file however, I don't want to specify SOFTWARE in each package.

What do I need to do to make this owkr correctly? Using WPKG 1.3

thanks again.

I am trying to get WPKG client to write logs to a central location (the share, actually)

I read that WPKG could create logs in the form of WPKG-[hostname]-[YYYY]-[MM]-[DD].log but I'm not sure where to set that feature …is it at the server side or client side? And how to configure the WPKG client to actually log to the share with at least the hostname of the computer as the name.

When I configured WPKG client to write a log to the share folder, the program crashes on startup with a "Microsoft Crash Report" -- unnerving to users who aren't expecting anything like that.

Documentation is a litle confusing and unclear as to what the proper format should be and all that.

Thanks for your help

I just started using WPKG over the past weekend and tried to set a variable SOFTWARE but it seems that the server? is not parsing it correctly. Using WPKG 1.3

In order for me to get the WPKG to actually install the program, I have to hard code the path to the share where the files are located.

What am I missing or doing wrong?

Let me know if you need moe information as I'm not sure what you're looking for.

Dear all,

can you recommend any inventory software? I'd like to track software,
installed by wpkg and installed manually. It should be Opensource and
Samba-compatible, i.e. no Active Directory and no Windows Server.

Antivir Avira Professional Agent

Dear all,

does anyone happen to have a package for Avira Professional **Agent**?

Calling installagent.bat that ships with the Avira Security Management
Console works fine. The agent is installed.

Unfortunately, it isn't possible to remove the program. Neither

<remove cmd='"%PROGRAMFILES%\InstallShield Installation
Information\{F3493E2F-B147-4EDD-9AE2-5DEDB8776232}\setup.exe /s
/f1%PROGRAMFILES%\Avira\Avira Security Management Center
Agent\wpkg_uninstall_setup.iss"' >

nor

<remove cmd='MsiExec.exe /qn /X{F3493E2F-B147-4EDD-9AE2-5DEDB8776232}' />

uninstalls the Agent. The first command doesn't use the response file.
The second one says, the product isn't installed. I copied the mentioned
F34... hash from HKLM / uninstall entry from registry. So it is
definitely right.

Disable FBWF before installing software

I'm currently preparing a Wyse thin client for one of our branch offices.
This particular model uses Windows Embedded Standard 7 and has File Based Write Filter which intercepts write operations to the disk and keeps them in a cache memory instead (I had seen it in Windows PE previously) so nothing is written to the disk and the changes are erased (lost) on reboot.

You can momentarily disable the FBWF to install programs and make other changes to the system but it requires a reboot.
So : Disable FBWF > Reboot > Install Software > Enable FBWF > Reboot
So I have used WPKG-GP successfully to install some basic software (Flash Player and what not) after disabling FBWF but would there be a way to have WPKG disable the FBWF if software has to be installed, reboot, proceed to the install and then re-enable it afterwards (and reboot) without going in a reboot cycle ?

Windows Embedded
I've used WPKG-GP to successfully

Negative Dependency

Hi there

Is there a way to specify a negative dependency in the package
definition

i want to say:
"if package XY is found (installed), then do not even try to install
this package, just wait to wpkg to remove the other package, try again
on next reboot"

can we do something like that?

Best Regards
