Now available: Apache OpenOffice Announcement List

<pre>The Apache OpenOffice Project Management Committee is pleased to
announce the availability of our new Announcement mailing list. This
is a low-volume list which will be used to announce the availability
of OpenOffice betas and releases, to issue security bulletins, and to
report similar relevant information. This is not a discussion list.
It will be used only for authoritative announcements regarding Apache
OpenOffice.

We encourage all OpenOffice users and other interested parties to
subscribe to this list by following these steps:

1) Send an email to: ooo-announce-subscribe&lt; at &gt;incubator.apache.org

2) Wait a few minutes and then check your inbox for a confirmation email.

3) Respond to the confirmation email

(If you ever want to unsubscribe, send an email to:
ooo-announce-unsubscribe&lt; at &gt;incubator.apache.org and respond to the
confirmation email.)

More information on this list, and other Apache OpenOffice project
lists can be found here:

Fwd: Open Office 3.3 Problems

<pre>Further to the subject, I continue to encounter anomolies and
misfunctions: Re. the "VLOOKUP(), the references are to *.cvx, i.e. comma (,)
delimited spreadsheets. Each time the objective file is opened (i.e. referring
file), OO 3.3 brings up "Text Import" to convert to an *.xls.format. I save all
files in .xls format to maintain compatability. With OO 3.2 upon first
time import I would convert to *.xls format; thereafter with each opening of
the objective file, upon clicking "Update), the file would open updated from
all imported files.

The previously mentioned problem, that "Paste Special"-numbers &amp; formats
only from a VLOOKUP cell, pastes an empty cell. This rendere OO 3.3 useless
to me.

Is OO 3.3 the latest version?, If there is a more recent version I would
try it. Otherwise, I either need OO 3.2 or must go to another office program.
I can't imagine the problems are unique to my applications. What say you?

<pre>I have been using OO 3.2 with good success. But upon installing and using
OO 3.3 I am encountering serious problems. That which I know so far is that
OO3.3 Spreadsheet will not carry out calculations wherin one or more
values are obtained via a VLOOKUP.function Specifically I have several
spreadsheets that obtain values from another spreadsheet. E.g. a specific code is:

=VLOOKUP($A16;'file:///C:/Documents and Settings/jreyr/My
Documents/ATTACHE-FINANCE/GJJT last.xls'#$Sheet1.$A$2:$M$27;2;FALSE())

If I paste special so that the actual numeric value is present, the
calculations proceed OK.

Calculations are carried out OK with OO 3.2.

This situation with OO3.3 is unsatisfactory and is uselrss to me. Upon
installing OO3.3, OO 3.2 is gone. Is there a remedy to the VLOOKUP problem or
is OO3.2 available? The calculations are carried out daily, so I am in real
trouble with this and urgently await a reply.

Announcement: New Apache OpenOffice.org mail list to replace this list

<pre>Please read this note in its entirety. It contains important
information related to this mailing list, its migration to the Apache
Software Foundation, and the steps you must take to ensure continuous
access to the list.

Background

As you may have heard, Oracle contributed the OpenOffice.org (OOo)
code to Apache in June. All new projects at Apache start in the
"Incubator", a special part of Apache where new projects ("Podlings")
and their communities are given special attention by Apache "mentors"
as they learn about Apache, ensure that the source code meets Apache's
license requirements, and work toward their initial Apache release.

In parallel with the coding efforts needed before we can publish
Apache OpenOffice.org 3.4.0, the Apache OpenOffice.org community,
working with the Apache Infrastructure team, is migrating the many
legacy OOo websites and other online services formerly hosted by
Sun/Oracle onto Apache servers. This has been a huge effort and we are
showing good progress in many areas.

My idea for rescue OOo

<pre>Hello , Open Office team !

I heard that OOo can be closed. And consequently I have decided to offer
the idea on project rescue. The idea is simple. To simplify official
registration of papers with formulas. The matter is that it is
impossible to insert values of variables into formula Math. And in state
standards it is necessary to write the formula containing both variables
and given (values of variables).

Algorithm of actions of the user:

1. Document creation
2. Formula addition
3. Addition of the data for substitution in the formula.
4. Reception of the formula with the substituted values.
5. A formula arrangement in conformity to state standards.

Idea 2

To connect this formula with Sage (http://www.sagemath.org/) for
realization of calculations of formulas. It will be killer application (
MathCad)

Я слышал , что Ооо может закрыться. И поэтому я решил предложить свою
идею по спасению проекта. Идея проста .</pre>

I have 100+ slides and I want to hold a slide till I finish something else.

I have looked endlessly in the FAQs and found nothing.

I have asked others and no one ever heard of it.

So I assume their is none.

So therefore can it be installed !

We are a support team helping a small research team and we are using Ubuntu Linux.

Our team is having difficulties in using 'Open office’ software. With Open office in Linux we could not retain the formatting(such as italic, bold and other special characters) while copying from source text such as pdf document unlike Microsoft office.

We did not find any difficulties when we use Open office in Microsoft Windows platform.

We would like to check, is there a way out to solve this problem? That is we would like to use Open office in Linux platform without this formatting issues. Kindly let us know.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

From my experience exporting spreadsheets, generally the following:

1) Importing and exporting data generally works in most cases,
however not without some caveats.

2) In the case of Spreadsheets, I suggest you export (save as) the
latest Excel version available to you, then allow Excel to import that.

3) This will likely give you most of what you want, however...

3a) If the original spreadsheet contains hyperlinks, these will
