It would be a shame to remove the feature because nowadays paginated 
docs very often need to also be presented online as HTML.

This feature works pretty well. It just needs some fixes.

OO Writer needs Forward and Back toolbar buttons a la web browsers

This feature has been adopted by many other kinds of apps other than web
browsers. For example, IDEs have the feature, and the Mac Finder has 
the feature.

Writer and possibly other OO apps should have the feature.

A further enhancement is to go to the previous (and next) site where something
changed (i.e. like forward and back except skipping the locations where nothing
changed.

I don't propose that forward/back would work across other OO apps. Just Writer.

I tried to post this in the bug database, but that bug got closed, 
and I was told to post it here.

User Scenario
  1. Start your task with Calc.
  2. Done with Sheet1.
  3. Done with Sheet2.
  4. Done with Sheet3.
  5. Now you need a new blank sheet.
     Insert - Sheet; [OK]

     Oops, the newly created one, Sheet4, is inserted before the Sheet3.
     == Sheet1 Sheet2 [Sheet4] Sheet3 ==

  6. Move the Sheet4 after Sheet3.
     == Sheet1 Sheet2 Sheet3 [Sheet4] ==

  6. Done with Sheet4.
  7. You need another sheet.
     Insert - Sheet

     This time, you know there is an option in the dialog.
     Choose (x)After current sheet; [OK]

     Good! The sheet5 is inserted after the sheet4.
     == Sheet1 Sheet2 Sheet3 Sheet4 [Sheet5] ==

  8. Done with Sheet5
  9. You need an additional sheet.

now that Firefox 4 is out, bringing WebGL to the public, I would like to ask the TC to look at opportunities to bridge ODF with 3D-worlds.

I do not think that ODF has to reinvent 3D languages. These are probably well represented. But I think that ODF will have to integrate 3D langauges and interoperate with 3D specific software. And this process should start rather early than too late.

Imress Presentation describing NEW OOo features

for the next OOo-release, I was revisiting an old post:

What about an interactive Impress-presentation describing the NEW features?

In the HELP-Menu, there could be a new entry: Presentation (or Vignette or New features). It will open an Impress-presentation in (partial) Slideshow-mode.

Partial Slideshow = NO Impress controls, BUT not occupying the whole screen (still somehow windowed).

Optimally: first page allows selecting which features to view:
- General new features
- module specific new features (Writer, Calc, ...)
- All (important) new features (i.e. General + Writer + Calc + ...)
[so, the Impress-presentation should become interactive]

Just a thought.

text size settings

Thanks for the brilliant applications in Open Office. I love to work in them.
Because I am working on a book manuscript where I change often between (10pt) 12 pt and 14 pt size of fonts, I have a question OR suggestion:

When I want to change from 14 pt to 12 pt (or 10 pt) font size (in the SIZE "hole" to the  right from the FONT) I only see 14 pt and BIGGER, 16, 18 ... 36 pt sizes options. 
Can I (or can you experts in the next version?) remake the settings of font size so when I work in 14 pt  I would also see 10 and 12 pt size as options WITHOUT using the mouse to move the blue scroll bar on the right hand side of the little "hole" or window in the top tool bar?

I want to know if my participation in the team is appropriate or might be beneficial.

I am a senior citizen, age 70, determined to make computer programs more user friendly for seniors.  We are the fastest growing age group and we are being left behind in this information age.  This situation is not only personally embarrassing and frustrating but also a detriment to our families and society as a whole: (1) as grandparents we are role models for our children but that status is downgraded by 8 year old grandchildren that now see us as being obsolete; (2) We have a lot of life experience that is denied to society because we have difficulty accessing and passing information.  I am better than most seniors that I know and I have difficulty with complex programs, many seniors are to afraid to even touch a computer.

The primary problem with seniors is; deteriorating learning ability and memories loss.  After several hours I discover how to do a particular action but, if I don’t repeat it several times I won’

Hi everyone,

I think it is time I parted ways with this group, and not without some 
regret. But also with some disappointment.

I have enjoyed the discussions and contributions that everyone has made 
and I think there are some terrific ideas and people here. My commitment 
to OOo remains as strong as ever, and I have looked around at other 
office suites, but not found one that offers nearly as much as OOo, 
until I look at the offerings of MS and Corel. MS is profoundly 
overpriced, and last time I looked at Corel, it was mired in the past.

That said, I think OOo does itself something of a disservice, for some 
very powerful features do not make themselves readily apparent, though 
addressing this is part of the function of this list and UI group(s).

The relative quietness of this group has hurried my decision along. That 
and a degree of confusion as to what exactly is going on: I don't know 
what I am supposed to be doing.

Shortly after I joined, I was able to see a mockup or two for a new 
interfac

Non Modal Message System for OOo

Hi,

The current version of OpenOffice.org uses modal dialogs to give 
feedback in many situations. This interrupts users every time such a 
dialog is shown. We have discussed this many times at the OpenOffice.org 
UX team and Christoph already made some mock-ups way back. Furthermore 
there are several implementation out there handling this mode less 
notification in other applications for a long time. So no rocket science 
but very helpful new UI controls to improve our user interaction.

Need a cue to tell users how to add text to drawing objects

Hi again everyone.
I'm wondering what you think about this:

To add text to a picture or a shape (or probably other objects, but I 
haven't checked)
you just need to select it and start typing.  But how is the user 
supposed to know this?

It isn't necessarily intuitive, particularly for someone coming from 
other software.
They can spend a very long time trying to find out how to add text to an 
object, and
may give up.  And if they don't use the feature frequently they may 
forget (I did!)

This would be a real pity, especially since OOo "contours" allow text to 
be handled
so much better than in the primitive competition, and "edit points" 
works so much
better.
(for entertainment see the workaround Microsoft called "easy":

MS must get a lot of complaints, because the Powerpoint 2010 help

Floating contextual toolbars steal focus

Hi everyone,
I noticed that when the autocorrect "replace bullets with" option is 
turned on in OOo Writer,
when it replaces a bullet, the "bullets and numbering" toolbar steals 
the focus. 
This only occurs if the toolbar is floating, not if it is docked.
The same behaviour occurs with other contextual toolbars, and it seems 
very user unfriendly
to me.
Does anyone have any other thoughts?
Could it be fixed?
