P.S. The packages are a month old there as it's built inside

packages again within reasonable time.

Solaris 8 and 9 are EOL and basically out of scope for KDE now.

<pre>(Please keep me CC'ed as I'm not subscribed to the list)

Hi there,

I'm working a bit on the FreeBSD-specific code in kinfocenter, and I've
noticed there's some #ifdef-ed code in info_solaris.cpp which depends on
HAVE_LIBDEVINFO_H being set.

However, there seems to be no code there to detect it, so the devinfo
code on Solaris is never compiled.

This is of particular interest to me because there is also devinfo(3)
for FreeBSD and DragonFlyBSD, however they are not inspired or
compatible with Solaris' libdevinfo (actually, I don't even know if
libdevinfo still exists on Solaris).

During my work, I will add a FindLibdevinfo.cmake to kde-workspace which
find FreeBSD's devinfo. Given the devinfo code for Solaris is never
compiled, there does not seem to be any risk of problems with that
#ifdef. It would be nice, though, if you guys could check if that piece
of code still works. If it doesn't I can remove it from the code.

Cheers,
rakuco

<pre>Hi,

as far as I've followed your discussions, it seems that most of you
are using the SunStudio compiler. Is there a special reason for this?
The compiler notes of Qt 4.6
(http://qt.nokia.com/doc/4.6/compiler-notes.html) say, that Sun CC
doesn't support all the features, e.g. WebKit is not supported. And -
it's been some months since I tried Sun CC - it also failed to compile
the concurrent examples.

Since osol ships g++ 3.4.2, which is fully supported (or am I wrong?),
I thought it would be better to use the GNU compiler.

Thorsten

In general, Sun Studio is more strict about the c++ standards than gcc.

you have any ?

ensuring KDE svn trunk builds on Solaris

<pre>Hi,

I'm looking for people who are interested in providing Nightly builds of KDE 4
svn trunk for Solaris.
Recently we set up cdash dashboards for several KDE modules (kdesupport,
kdelibs, kdebase, kdepimlibs, kdepim, kdenetwork, kdeadmin,
kdeaccessibility , kdeexamples) on http://my.cdash.org.

The idea is to build KDE every night on different machines and operating
systems to make sure it stays building everywhere.
If something breaks, notification emails with the errors can be sent, e.g. to
this list or to the committers.

Until now only me and Volker Krause are providing Nightly builds there, and
both on Linux. Now most KDE developers are using Linux, so having Nightly
builds on non-Linux systems is actually even more important.

So, is anybody here interested to run a Nightly build of KDE on Solaris once
per day ?

I still have to document this somewhere, probably on techbase, on how to get
this working.
Short version: check out kdesdk/, there in cmake/scripts/ is a shell script

than an empty listbox and have a functional version that implements all
the common functionality for OpenSolaris. You can find the patch here:

There are still lots of sensors to add and the renice dialog needs more
work.

<pre>Hi Folks,

Please check this post for an issue I faced while getting KDE 4
to work properly on BeleniX:
http://moinakg.wordpress.com/2009/09/21/lost-on-the-dee-bus/

Since KDE is delivered as an integrated part of BeleniX I use all the
packages already part of the distro. This includes JDS packages
adapted and modified to suit both Gnome and KDE - wherever there
are common dependencies like DBUS etc.

Now JDS delivers a Gamin port that uses File Event Notification on
Solaris and I found issues while using that with KDE4. I think
KDirWatch can be improved by handling subscriptions in new threads
and having one dedicate thread for handling notification events. The
current approach seems broken to me.

Regards,
Moinak.
