Hello,
I have a Brauniger IQ One+ and I want to be able to download the barograph on my linux machine.
After a quick inspection of the gpsbabel source code I saw that the baroiq feature is somehow unfinished/not working.
Can anybody tell me what is the state of this feature?

I am prepared to contribute to the project if possible.

I was able to download both the flight memory and device configuration memory from my vario to the computer (using the java serial port API) and did some reverse engineering on it.
Any help regarding the format of the memory would be appreciated.

Best regards,

Hi,

I am on Mac OSX Lion (10.7.3), 2.2 ghz intel core i7, 8 gig ram. I try to convert the attached kml file to gpx format and the results are an almost empty file. I have tried with the mac gui gpsbabel interface and on the command line.

The command line I tried is: gpsbabel -i kml -f "/Users/dan/Documents/Zigzag Loop.kml" -o gpx -F ~/zz.gpx

The command line version gave pretty much the same results as the gui (which follows here):

Here is a screen shot:

This is what ends up in the zz.gpx file:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<gpx
 version="1.0"
 creator="GPSBabel - http://www.gpsbabel.org"

<time>2012-05-11T18:03:29Z</time>
</gpx>

and here is what is in the Zigzag Loop.kml file:

I would really appreciate some help with this problem.

A little background - I bought a Garmin Rino 650 after researching that it
will output NMEA data via the USB port. I checked the manual - there are
options on the device to output a location stream in a number of formats
(Garmin Spanner, Garmin Serial, NMEA in/out, Text out, RTCM). So I take the
plunge...

However it seems that when using a Mac it is only possible through using a
piece of middleware like GPSBabel to capture this data. I am not even able
to get Google Earth to recognise the device to show realtime updates. GE
just scans /dev for serial ports and will not see anything it understands
on 'usb:' on either NMEA or Garmin PVT protocols.

My principal objective here is to capture the NMEA stream, parse it and
write it to a MySQL database, so I either need a text stream or an output
file I can pick up

GPSBabel is working fine when I use the gui to make a request such as:

gpsbabel -w -r -t -i
garmin,snwhite=0,get_posn=0,power_off=0,erase_t=0,re

I tried to use GPSBabel to convert from a GoogleEarth file (.kml; extracted from the .kmx file) to a
TomTom itinerary file (.itn) which are valid options in the application. The
conversion appears to have run and even gave me the preview of the conversion (I
assume) and it said it completed. When I closed the conversion, I checked the
output file and it had 0 bytes.

Do I have to do another step or option to get the itinerary file? Am I missing something?

More information. The .kml file has a route, tracks, and POIs. This is the link to the .kmz file that I used.

Having some trouble with gpsbabel and my GT-730FL-S unit.

If I grab my track log from the unit with:
gpsbabel -i skytraq,baud=230400 -f /dev/ttyUSB0 -o gpx -F /tmp/poop.gpx

the first point in the track is:

elevation, lat, and long are all way way off, and time is just a bit
off, compared to the first point in the track when extracted via the
stupid windows tool:

what additional information will help troubleshoot this?

Thanks!

Hello list!

I recently bought a Blumax GPS 4044 Datalogger. (I already use GPS Babel
GUI on Windows with Garmin GPS devices)

Although I import tracks to .gpx without any problem, I've been unable to
import waypoints (the device as push button just for waypoints). In fact
the "Waypoint" option isn't available when using these configs:

Input - MTK Logger
Output - GPX XML

I've tried other Input options, but the only option that communicates with
this data logger is "MTK Logger".

Any suggestion on how to work arround this issue?

Thanks in advance

I tried GPSBabel but I didn't see the format in the list so I don't know wich command I have to use to communicate with my GPS.

My question is :is there a format compatible with my GPS ? and if not, is there a chance to have it in the next version of GPSBabel ?

Thank you

http://www.gpsbabel.org/os/OSX_debug.html

Apple-Option-v does nothing. Is there another way to access this window?

Also, using the terminal to issue direct commands the directory path should be
"Contents/MacOS" and not "Contents/Resources"

In my case the full path is:
Applications/GPSBabelFE.app/Contents/MacOS/gpsbabel

I am using a Mac with Snow Leopard, 10.6.8
I need to upgrade to Lion and can't run GPSBabel 1.3.5 in the future.
Any Ideas?

bloating instead of simplifying a track

Hi

I'm browsing through the current filter documentation but could not find
what I would need right now.
The question is if it would be possible to add additional trackpoints to
an gps track on sections that would extend a given length?
Usually a recored gps track would have sufficient trackpoints.
But if you have manually crafted a course (eg as gpx) and you have some
straight paths in there, where you only have the two endpoints and the
length for this straight is 1000m I would want to have one extra point
every 100 meter for example.

Or maybe simpler something like the opposite of the simplify filter
where you specify the minimum no of trackpoints (ignoring the length
between the points). So if a given gps track has 1000 trackpoints you
specify min=3000 you get two more trackpoints between each existing
ones.

Someone has an idea if/how gspbabel could be used to help with this
task?
or some other way (I'm trying to put together some perl at the moment)

Garmin Edge 800 FIT format won't convert afterfirmware upgrade

Hello,

I have a Garmin Edge 800, and since upgrading the unit to the latest
firmware, the .fit format seems to have changed, I can't convert to GPX
anymore.

gpsbabel -D9 -i garmin_fit -f 2012-04-12-14-53-58.fit -o gpx -F
2012-04-12-14-53-58.fit.gpx
GPSBabel Version: 1.4.3
fit: record truncated

...and that's it. Attached are a file that works (with the older date
and converted gpx), and one that doesn't.

gpsbabel is compiled from todays SVN sources, Firmware in the unit is
2.40, I'm not sure what the old version was, but it wasn't too old as I
bought the unit just last summer.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Nils

removing waypoints from gps

Hi,

I am using gpsbabel to transfer waypoints back and forth between my
computer and my GPSmap76Cx. This works fine, and is pretty easy. I was
wondering if there's anyway to remove the waypoints from the GPS? So
far the only option I have found is to manually select and delete each
waypoint from the GPS menu, which is quite tedious. Does gpsbabel
provide any way to do this more automatically?

Thank you,

Tyler

documentation bug

Hi,

I'm just getting started with gpsbabel on Debian Wheezy. There is a
small bug in the documentation at:
http://www.gpsbabel.org/os/Linux_Hotplug.html

For Debian at least, udev rules should use 'ATTR' instead of 'SYSFS'.
So the recommended udev rule:

 SYSFS{idVendor}=="091e", SYSFS{idProduct}=="0003", MODE="666",
GROUP="plugdev"

should be:

 ATTR{idVendor}=="091e", ATTR{idProduct}=="0003", MODE="666", GROUP="plugdev"

Thanks,

Tyler

problem converting from kml

I'm trying to convert several kml files (one attached) to gpx. I downloaded garmin gps tracks to Google Earth, and then saved it as kml. The file is about 50K, and has many trackpoints, which come up fine in Google Earth. But when I use GPSBabel (1.4.3 on Windows Vista) to convert to gpx, the resulting file is only 357 bytes, clearly missing all trackpoints, even though it reports, "Translation successful". I tried playing with various options, but always with the same result. I also tried running from a command prompt, using only defaults, and that did the same thing. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

Many thanks,
Chip Ziering
