Nomination for Hildon Foundation Board

<pre>
Despite recent events...

I also hereby announce my self-nomination for the upcoming Hildon Foundation
Board election.

My name is Craig Woodward, I generally go by Woody14619.

I joined the Maemo world as an excited N900 pre-order member in late 2009. I
was mainly a forum reader and mild script editor for some time, mainly because
my RL work deals with micro systems, so the last thing I wanted to do when
coming home was work on more stuff for a micro system.

In mid-2012 I ran for Council and was elected one of 5 members for the term.
During that term, three of the Council founded the Hildon Foundation to become
the legal body under which Maemo could continue to survive when Nokia decided to
pull the plug (which was announced as happening before we took that action). In
addition to being one of the three founders of the Hildon Foundation, I am also
currently a director via late appointment, after Ivan's early exit. (I'm hoping
nobody holds that against me...)

Currently, the Hildon Foundation board is </pre>

<pre>Well, I've decided to toss my hat into the ring for the Hildon Foundation Board election.

Most of you who've been around the Maemo Community for a while probably know me. If not personally, I'd guess through reputation, but for those of you who don't:

Hello, my name is Ryan Abel. I go by GeneralAntilles online.

I've owned a Maemo device since the beginning of 2006 (around the time the 770 became available in the US), and began participating on Internet Tablet Talk at that time. I began contributing seriously to Maemo in 2007 when timeless helped get me involved in bugzilla.

In 2008, Andrew Flegg (Jaffa) proposed an idea that would help put the Maemo Community in charge of its own direction. Jaffa's idea became the Maemo Community Council. Simon Pickering (lardman) and myself were involved with helping Jaffa to bring that idea into fruition. All three of us served on the inaugural council (myself, as a rather inexperienced chair) and on the 2nd council (and Jaffa and I on the 4th council). Since then, I'v</pre>

I would first like to thank everybody that voted in the recent barrage

more elections to keep everybody busy :)

It's a great pleasure to announce the new Q2 2013 Maemo Community Council

Christian Ratzenhofer (merlin1991)

I am very happy to be able to serve maemo for another term, and I am
even happier to have the opportunity to collaborate with people that
have offered so much to this community and spent timeless hours to
keep maemo alive and kicking. I firmly believe that all of us will do
whatever possible (and even more) to help this community prosper, now

I screwed up my voting on the MCC election by clicking the next button when
I should have clicked on the names of the people I wanted-so it thinks my
vote was for "none of the nominated" which is not my intention. Is it
possible to change this now, or am I screwed? I haven't voted in the HFC

<pre>I am honoured to be nominated for the Maemo Community Council and Hildon
Foundation Council and I accept the nomination.

The reason that I do accept despite that I have recently said otherwise is
because I feel that a vote with many candidates is needed to provide
legitimacy to the elected council to take the actions required.

My goal for the next term is to minimize the needless bureaucracy that has
made our life difficult the last few months and part of this effort is the
combination of the two bodies MCC/HFC into one, as I firmly believe there
is no need for two different councils. I will appreciate if you show
everybody that this is the community's will by voting identically for both
bodies.

Lastly I'd like to point out clearly that I don't believe there is an old
school maemo camp nor a harmattan camp here, and I have tried to prove this
by sharing my development efforts almost equally to both platforms. There
are fremantle users and harmattan users and I am proudly both.

More than anything, I belie</pre>

The Maemo Community Council election rules (
http://wiki.maemo.org/Community_Council/Election_process ) are a good base to
start with, but they have a drawback: While there is a provision to avoid
unelected members for less than 5 members, this provision does not cover the
actual number five resulting in all 5 candidates to be appointed councillors
(what has currently happened). This should be corrected and the clause "If
fewer than 5 candidates stand for election, the 3 with the most votes are
elected to the council. " must be changed to "...fewer than or equal to
five...". For the same reason, the clause "</pre>

Thank you for your response to our Open Letter. As you can see from the
community conversation regarding your response — here, as well as
various social media circles — most of our members want more. The Hildon
Foundation appreciate the invitation to become "true pioneers," but in
all honesty, the Maemo community has been a true pioneer for many years
now as a unique open source initiative combining developers and users
with a community repository of applications and platform components.

This being said, we understand that Jolla is a future that we would like
to help make successful if possible. Currently, neither Jolla nor any
Jolla affiliates affiliates (Mer, Nemo, Sailfish OS, etc.) have any sort
of "community," user base, or public space for communication to speak
of. These assets can be extended if, for example, you are interested in
a community repository, cross-platform development, or helping
developers migrate to Sailfish. We had already intended to provide a

Does Hildon Foundation have plans to upgrade Maemo or only keep it

Who decides what tools, libraries, compilers and so on autobuilder is

Dear Jolla,

Happy New Year! And, congratulations on your successful launch in
November. We were all watching in hopeful anticipation and were
pleasantly surprised. You are doing things that many of us never thought
possible.

Like Jolla's open ecosystem, Hildon Foundation has also been born as the
only fully incorporated, non-profit organization with a mission to
promote open source software derived from Maemo. So, naturally, it makes
sense that our organizations should cooperate with each other.
Hopefully, you won't mind that we're publishing this as an "open letter"
on our blog (http://hildonfoundation.org/open-letter-fr…ation-to-jolla/)
in the hopes that a greater community dialog will occur. If you would
like us to conduct any of our conversations privately, just let us know.

<pre>Happy New Year Maemo Community!

As we move into the new year, we’re also faced with a very new phase of
life — that is, complete control of the maemo.org infrastructure,
meaning community governance of the Maemo Community and everything that
it implies (community servers and software repositories, various
maemo-related software and technology, the talk.maemo.org forum and
wiki, etc.). It’s a lot to fathom, but we are certain that if any
community can handle it, this one can.

Fundraising

Likewise, most of you know that the new changes require that we, as a
community, foot the bill for all of these new responsibilities. Late
last year, we began a fundraising drive that began on TMO and then
received a permanent home at http://hildonfoundation.org/support/. If
you haven’t donated yet, please consider it. You may donate any amount.
Just keep in mind that you money really matters — it is what will help
to keep this community alive and functioning.

<pre>Hi,

You probably know that the SSL setup on vcs.maemo.org is broken. The
certificate and the private key file do not match.

The certificate will anyway expire on the 3rd of Jan, 2013. Hope that
the Hildon Foundation can request a new one, as soon as the domain
ownership is transferred. If somebody needs help with requesting a
certificate please contact Niels or myself.

So for now:
- the svn and git repos over WebDav [1] will remain accessible via http
- the git repos over ssh are not affected

Br,
ferenc

Could anyone help us with a Nokia contact? (maemo.org competitionrelated)

<pre>Hi all,

We're trying to track down 2 missing device prizes from the coding
competition (we've tried a few Nokia contacts over the past while but have
had no luck with responses). Would anybody know anyone inside Nokia who
might be able to assist us with locating these two missing devices?

One was to be sent to maemo.org member netvandal and one to
maemo.orgmember Wikiwide. Neither have received a shipping
notification or tracking
number, and nothing has arrived for these guys. The prizes for the other
winners have been received fine long ago. If we could reach out to someone
somehow and see if these devices were sent, and maybe if there is any
tracking information for the packages, that would be a great start. If
these devices are no longer available then at least we'd know not to wait
for them anymore.

If you'd prefer not to reply to the mailing list, please feel free to email
myself directly or the competition 'catchall' address via *maemo*.*
competition2012*&lt; at &gt;*gmail.com,* or reach out to any maemo.org c</pre>
