Many GNOME hackers look for jobs and they crawl blogs, mailing lists,

    <title>GNOME Mobile Stewardship Team</title>
    <link>http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.gnome.foundation.announce/336</link>
    <description>Hi, everyone:

On behalf of the GNOME Foundation Board, I'd like to announce the
appointment of a new mobile stewardship team to coordinate and focus
GNOME's mobile efforts. The team members will be Paul Cooper, Dave
Neary, and Stormy Peters.

The team will have two primary tasks. First, the board wants to make
sure that there is a coherent vision and strategy around GNOME Mobile
so that we can all move forward. We want this team to help discover
and clarify that vision- holding and leading whatever conversations,
meetings, etc. are necessary so that we can understand where GNOME
Mobile is, where it should be going, and how the Foundation can be
most helpful in getting it there. It is important to stress that the
people already involved in GNOME Mobile will be the ones setting the
direction- in keeping with the Foundation's charter, this team will be
facilitators, not decision makers.

Second, the team will also work on communication. The Board want to
ensure that there are people empowered to speak on GNOME</description>

<title>GNOME and KDE to Co-locate Flagship Conferences on Gran Canaria in2009</title>
    <link>http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.gnome.foundation.announce/334</link>
<description>The GNOME Foundation and KDE e.V. announced that they will hold their
yearly conferences, GUADEC and Akademy in 2009 in Gran Canaria. The
conferences will be separate events, but co-located and hosted by the
same organizers, the Cabildo of Gran Canaria and its Secretary of
Tourism, Technological Innovation and Foreign Trade.

While there were other excellent bids, the GNOME foundation and KDE e.V.
have settled on Gran Canaria because of its position as Port to Africa
and the excellent circumstances for holding such an event there.
Unfortunately, having three proposals, two have to be rejected. The
proposals from Tampere in Finland and Coruna in Spain were close
contenders. Both foundations would like to thank those organisers for
the work they have put into their proposals and encourage them to
consider their cities for conferences in future years.

<title>hiring Stormy Peters as executive director</title>

    <description>Hi, all-

It is my pleasure to announce that the Board has decided to hire
Stormy Peters as Executive Director of the Foundation. We've been in
talks with her for some time and feel that she has an ideal
combination of skills and background to fill the role, having been
involved with GNOME and with the open source business community for a
long time. For the fuller story on her bio, check out the press
release, linked blow.

Stormy's responsibilities will include (among other things)
strengthening and growing the GNOME Foundation's infrastructure,
working with the Board of Directors, Advisory Board members, GNOME
membership, and other GNOME supporters to create an awesome free and
open source desktop that is easy to use and provide a strong
development platform, and accelerating the adoption of GNOME and
strengthening the Foundation by attracting new industry members and
community contributors. No small task but we think she's up to it.

If you're in Istanbul this week, please say hi to Stormy and welcome

    <link>http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.gnome.foundation.announce/327</link>
<description>The boards of KDE e.V. and the GNOME Foundation have issued a call to
co-host Akademy and GUADEC, the flagship conferences of the KDE and
GNOME projects respectively, during the Summer of 2009.

This would be the first time that the conferences are to be co-hosted.
The combined conference is expected to have around 800 attendees, being
one of the biggest meetings of free software developers in the world.
The content of the conferences will be organized independently, with a
number of co-ordinated cross-over sessions with appeal to all attendees.

Both organizations have noted, however, that proposals to host the
conferences independently are invited as well. The decision about the
events will be made in collaboration of the KDE e.V. and the GNOME
Foundation based on the suitability of the available proposals.

<description>Call for hosts for GUADEC 2009
==============================

The GNOME Foundation invites proposals to host GUADEC, the annual GNOME
conference, during the Summer of 2009. GUADEC is the biggest gathering
of GNOME users and developers and includes a three-day conference, the
annual general meeting of the members of the GNOME Foundation, and a
week of coding, meeting, and discussing.

For the first time we also invite proposals to hold GUADEC and Akademy,
the KDE community conference, at the same time, in the same location.
Proposals should detail plans for hosting up to 800 attendees, with
separate facilities available for Akademy and GUADEC planned sessions.

The conferences should be held independently, in the same location, with
facilities available for joint sessions of interest to both communities.
A co-hosted event would constitute one of the largest events on the
planet dedicated to free software on the desktop.

    <title>GNOME Foundation Annual Report 2007 released!</title>
    <link>http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.gnome.foundation.announce/321</link>
    <description>Hi all,

Last year, Dave Neary and others started this new tradition by
producing the first GNOME Foundation annual report which has got very
positive response from community. So, we decided to follow the new
tradition by preparing the GNOME Foundation annual report 2007!

I've been slowly working on it for a few months with invaluable
contributions from several people. The report is now available in
GNOME Foundation's website:

  http://foundation.gnome.org/about/gnome_annual_report_2007.pdf (1860 KB, PDF)

We'll soon send nice hard copies of the report to the Advisory Board
members and existing GNOME event boxes. Our plan is to also print a

anyone to order personal hard copies by just paying for the printing.

<description>GNOME Foundation and Mozilla Foundation join forces
===================================================

The GNOME Foundation and the Mozilla Foundation announced today that
they will increase their collaboration to improve developer support and
user experience of desktop applications on GNU/Linux and other free
software systems.

The partnership has three aspects:

  * The Mozilla Foundation will join the GNOME Foundation advisory
board, helping set the long-term direction of the project.
  * Mozilla reaffirms its commitment to integrating with the GNOME
platform for the XUL development platform, and for Mozilla Firefox.
  * The Mozilla Foundation announces a grant of $10,000 to the GNOME
Foundation, to be spent on the improvement of the accessibility of
the GNOME desktop environment via the "GNOME Outreach Program:
    Accessibility" program.

"GNOME and GTK+ have been our environment of choice for years. As we
move from desktops into the mobile market, we will continue to work with
