Trying to recover from corrupted files - not going well.

My gnucash install has now went off the rails :-(   I wanted the bill import section so that
means compile trunk from scratch and include --with-python

Under 2012-1-14 version of trunk there was an export as XML.  Today's trunk r22201 no longer has that export as XML but export as CVS.   How can I get past this data corruption issue and export/import the dataset in trunk?

The 2011 version was broken where billing importing was hit and miss - known bug.
The 2012-1-14 version worked for a while, then after various linux system upgrades at some point when I returned to entering stuff in the accounting system when I save a file the saved file is not openable.  I just did another grab of trunk and did a save from a working file and get a non-working file.   The below is an example from the trace file of a:

$ gnucash gnuworked2
(within GnuCash File -> Save As gnuborked)
$ date;gnucash gnuborked.gnucash
Thu May 24 11:57:47 CDT 2012

error building trunk

when making gnucash/src/backend/sql/test/test-sqlbe.c

I'm using ubuntu 12.04, and 2.4.10 builds ok

I looked all over your web site and this is the only e-mail address I found.

I've been using your program for both Linux and Windows operating systems
and really like it.

I recently bought an Android 4.0 tablet. Do you have any plans to develope
an Android version of GnuCash? If yes, when do you think it might be ready.

Unfortuneately, I don't have any programming skills to help with it.

(hereinafter referred to as 'Gnucash Mobile').

Menu accelerator keys in 2.4.10

Hello all!

I resumed working on the PT translation, and downloaded the 2.4.10. I
had no issues compiling it on ubuntu 12.04.
I noticed that the menu accelerators in menu itens containing an
ampersand (&) as in "Check & Repair" are displayed as "_Check &
Repair"
First I thought this was an issue of my version, or my translation,
but I checked with the ubuntu packaged version (12.04 comes with
2.4.10 - uau!) and it has the same issue in English. My machine runs
an English version of Ubuntu 12.04.

OS orientated development

While reading a recent thread here (the one on libgtk dependency) I 
wondered which OS gnc ended up on most.

Looking at
http://sourceforge.net/projects/gnucash/files/gnucash%20%28stable%29/stats/os?dates=2012-02-06%20to%202012-05-03
(i.e. 2.4.10 stable until today) it appears to be Windows.

I tried a number of other time periods but Windows seems to be the main 
OS regardless.

I know there are other sources of gnc, for e.g. the one I use day to day 
comes from http://portableapps.com/
Perhaps many more people use the gnc from their *nix distro?  Do we have 
any stats for that?  I'm guessing not.

The thing I am thinking about is which version of the packages gnc 
depends on should be used?

I am aware some might see this as "fighting talk", I am certainly not 
intending to start an OS war (there are plenty of other places for that! )

What I am wondering about is how much is gnc "held back" by the 
stability of (say) libgtk on one platform?

Git on Windows

Hi,

I have just committed a couple of patches that should allow the Windows 
build to use a git repository as its source. I started from Christian's 
original work and tweaked it a bit to avoid the sed segfault we had before.

Parameters to set in custom.sh are:
REPOS_TYPE=git
(default value is svn)
GIT_REV=trunk (or whatever branch/tag/commit you like)
UPDATES_SOURCES=yes

So far the build runs fine. What hasn't been updated yet are the build 
scripts used for the automatic nightly builds.

And also, I'm not sure what the code should do to "update the source". 
In svn this was as simple as "svn up", because there's a central 
repository and the working copy is checked out from there. But what 
would be the equivalent in git ? git pull ? Our custom git-update ? git 
rebase ?

Scam site selling GNUCash

Hello,

A friend of our family recently paid £35 to http://www.mi-shop.co.uk/ for accounting software that they call "P.S.B.A".  They received the CD through the post and installed it, and found that it installs GNUCash.

Appreciate you release it under GPL license, but is this considered a scam?  There is no mention on their website that they are re-distributing GNUCash, and charging for it.  It feels like they are basically taking donation money out of your pockets, and to be honest, I don't trust the distribution that they send out either (based on no evidence).

Error during make install

I can build without error but I'm consistently getting an error when I
try to make install.
Here is the output from the end of the build with the error
"/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -ltest-core"
This is a fresh checkout from SVN on Fedora 15 and the first time
trying to install.

Any help figuring this out would be appreciated.

Increasing trunk libgtk dependency to 2.22.0?

Currently, SVN trunk requires libgtk-2.18.1. However, recently (in r22086 from 
patches in bug#672161) some new code was added that uses functions that were 
introduced in gtk-2.22, e.g. gtk_assistant_commit.

Can we increase our required libgtk to 2.22? Current Ubuntu 11.10 comes with 
2.24.6; other up-to-date distros probably with similar versions. What do you 
think?

Gnucash 2.4.7 with mysql incorrectly fails dbi startup test.

A clean install of Xubuntu 11.10, Gnucash-2.4.7 fails with mysql on 
startup.  If I start from the command line with

$ gnucash mysql://user< at >localhost/gnucash

when it tries to load the user data a blank popup appears.  If I hit 
<enter>, gnucash opens with an empty "Unsaved Book", and the trace file 
contains

Uncaught critical error in the python bindings without apparent cause

Hi,

I've run into an error using the python bindings:

This is the code (changed a bit to make it easier to read):

It goes through without throwing an exception but produces the following
output:

I used pdb to investigate this:

- CUR is identical to book.get_table().lookup('CURRENCY', 'EUR')
- c is a customer created manually using the gnucash GUI and all it's
properties appear to be correct.
- next_invoice_id is "W000083".

I've stepped through the code. The first line ("CRIT") of the output
happens here:

Finance::Quote options (again)

Can't find an exact previous thread point to add onto as there have been 
many here and in gnucash-user so apols for starting a new thread about 
something some people may consider well done by now.

perl's Finance::Quote is what it is.

Getting quotes from google finance has been mentioned (can't find the 
posting right now)

I'd like to throw in http://getquote-tedsoft.blogspot.co.uk/ as a 
possible alternative too.  It is OOo / LibreOffice friendly; the author 
isn't (as far as I can see) anti general use and has noticed the same 
malfunctioning we have through Finance::Quote (i.e. the problem wasn't 
Finance::Quote per se).

My thoughts are:

1) if someone is doing intra-day trading or similar then they shouldn't 
be using GnuCash to get prices, I see GnuCash getting prices as a weekly 
, once a day at most, idea of what my stuff may be worth.
