Hello,

today I finally find the time to look after geeqie again. I find that
Laurent did make some cool stuff including committing patches from
contributors.

Is there any reason for not including them to the master ak development
branch?

By the way, e4a5079 seems to fix or try to fix the same issue than
0922b29. I have to look which is better. ;-)

Regards

Ups, 5ef3084 is the correct commit in master branch. And I think the
patch e4a5079 drives the fix unworkable as the second reference to
...-&gt;name is correct.

however I have one problem/question about the file browser tree in the
LH sidebar.

Is it possible to 'root' the tree somewhere in my home directory? I.e.
I want only to see the contents of the hiearchy under /home/chris/pictures,
at least by default that's all I want to see.

Oh, and another request, is it possible to select some EXIF/IPTC data to
show beside the thumbnails rather than the filename, size and date that
it shows by default - I'd much rather see the comment/caption than the
size of the file!

I don't know if this is the correct fix, but it does seem to work in the

specifying an image filename on the commandline. Simply specifying a
directory works fine.

<pre>Hello!

I could have missed it but i do not see any ability to view/edit
JPEG/PNG image comments. Which is good to have in Geeqie, i think. At
least viewing.
Geeqie already uses libexiv2, so adding this feature should be mostly UI
job. For example, it can be implemented as an enhancement of the Image
Overlay.

Consider this post as a feature request. Can it be done?

Thank you.

I am about to start a new job, but still wanted to explore options for

Also, may I ask the pronunciation of geeqie ? I could guess, but prefer
to know for sure.

Thx, jackc...

Hi Vlad,

I encountered a bad error in your commit 78cde69 (Find by bisec.) With
this commit it is not possible anymore to _type_ in keywords for a
picture.

At the moment I would simply revert this commit as it seems somewhat
isolated at all. However, you might find a better solution.

I hope you can merge this patch into the sources...

<pre>Hi!

I tried to understand how to add a command to the list of «external
editors» by myself. Unfortunately I could not accomplish it yet :-(

I am running Ubuntu 11.04 (Gnome 2, 2D) with Geeqie v1.0.

In the context menu of a JPEG file I see seven editors. I'd like to
add a self-written Python tool to that context menu at least for
JPEG files.

For that purpose I wrote a desktop file:

,----[ ~/.config/geeqie/applications/m2a.desktop ]
| [Desktop Entry]
| Name=m2a
| GenericName=m2a
| Comment=
| Exec=m2a %F
| Icon=
| Terminal=true
| Type=Application
| Categories=Application;
| hidden=false
| MimeType=image/bmp;image/gif;image/jpeg;image/jpg;[...]
`----

m2a is in my ${PATH} and can be invoked in command line without
problems.

Unfortunately I was not able to see this file in the context menu of
Geeqie, in the «Edit/External Editors» menu or in the list of
«Edit/Preferences.../Configure Editors...».

How can I add my own tool?

Thank you very much!

I have commited these fixes and new features to master:

- rewritten check for sidecar files, it no longer tests all possible case

- support for extensions with multiple dots - the extension must be registered
 as a known file type
- custom tiff loader - loading tiff files is faster and more memory efficient
- cache for keywords - keyword to mark connection should be faster

I expect that there will be some regressions. Please test.

Hello folks,

After some time I start bughunting today again. Well, started to start.
;-)

I moved in the lost tag from Vlad to this tree and started a stable/1.x
tree (I do not think that we need 3 version numbers). I will cherry pick
some patches from master respectively from the lm tree. This would be:
* c15a10f - Fix bug 2999830: do not report failed chown() on copy.
* 1b0745a - Fix bug 3006812: ensure exif cache is initialized even when all files are unreadable.

Feel free to populate the stable tree too.

Geeqie new features

<pre>Hi all,

I was looking through the code for Geeqie Image viewer. and wanted to add
some new features related to image manipulation in a 2D_physics like
environment. Basically i want to make a mode for the viewer in which it will
function much like the picasa image viewer in windows. A new decoration less
and opacity&lt;1 window will open with solid ImageWindow widget at center, much
like the fullscreen window, which can get easily manipulated by mouse
events. manipulations like fluid zooming, panning and continuous transition
from one image to another.
Anyway i was hoping if someone can give me some pointers on where should i
be looking in the code. like functions and structs which are more relevant
to this kind of hack.

thanks a lot

<pre>Hi all,

I just confirmed what was bugging me for a while and somehow sounds
vaguely familiar (someone else may have reported it recently on this
list).

I'm using Geeqie 1.0 on Debian, just updated.

When trying to manipulate files for which I have group write permissions
but not user write permissions, the operation fails (such as move or
delete).

<pre>Hi,

When performing the following:
1. Viewing images in a directory with &gt; 100 pictures.
2. Selecting images, copying their paths.
3. Moving the images from the command line to a different directory.
4. Scrolling up back to the top with the mouse wheel (for the thumbnails).
5. Results in a coredump everytime.

champlain status?

<pre>
I went to try champlain support, and noticed:

 configure.in in 1.0 wants champlain 0.4

champlain 0.4, 0.6, and 0.8 are in pkgsrc, separately (a hint that the API is
 unstable)

 champlain 0.10 was just released

So I wonder:

is there any good reason (still) geeqie support wants 0.4, rather than
 targetting 0.10

does anyone know of reasons why it would be desirable to support old
 versions?

 is anyone working on this?

How to restore "Open with Geeqie " in Nautilus

<pre>I compiled Geeqie 1.0 for my main working station (Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 64
bits). Everything was smooth and Geeqie is working well.

Strangely I lost the possibility of opening a picture in Nautilus with
Geeqie when I right click and choose Open with or when I double click
Geeqie (it is the default option).

Geeqie opens but is empty, showing the root of my /home/user directory.
I can see a small "!" exclamation mark on the right bottom side of
Geeqie for a few seconds when it opens.

I tried with file properties, giving Geeqie as image viewer; I even
tried to edit /etc/mailcap... No chance...

Someone have an idea?

By the way I do have the same behavior on my netbook (Ubuntu 11.04 with
Unity) and Ubuntu's own Geeqie package.

Command-line list bug

<pre>Geeqie 1.0

Hello

I was pleased when I learned of Geeqie development, but, for me, there
is a showstopping bug.

If you open a group of images on the command-line that are in different
directories and delete one of them, you cannot continue to view all the
images. You are stuck in the first directory. Gqview has the expected
behaviour, you can go back and forth through the files deleting at will.

To reprodduce this bug:

In a directory, create a few directories with image-files in, then, in
the top directory run this script:

#!/bin/bash

IFS=$'\n'
shopt -s nocaseglob

geeqie $(find -iname "*.jp*g" | sort)

# end of script

View the images, delete a file at random with Geeqie, you will be stuck
and cannot view further images.

I do this often with Gqview, so, unfortunately, Geeqie is unusable for
me at present.
