Hi,

I just notice that in VBoxManage 3.1.4, there are some new options. The ones about cpuid are interested to me.
[--cpuidset <leaf> <eax> <ebx> <ecx> <edx>]
[--cpuidremove <leaf>]
[--cpuidremoveall]

I just tried something like
VBoxManage.exe modifyvm PP2 --cpuidset 1 0x000006E8 0x00010800 0x0000C1A9 0xAFE9FBFF

But when the guest system PP2's cpuid does not change. Do you have anyidea how to use these options?

Thanks,
Ted

1024x600 NetBook-Linux Mint 8 Host, Win XP Guest?

HI,

I may be trying to push what is technically possible but thought I would
try it.

I installed Linux Mint 8 32bit onto my new NetBook
with dual core 1.6GHz ATOM CPU, 1GB RAM, and 1024x600 screen resolution.

Then I installed current VirtualBox and installed Windows XP Pro 32bit SP3
into a newly created virtual machine.

Then I installed current VirtualBox Guest Additions into XP guest
virtual machine.

All went perfectly with no problems to report.

My only problem is that the XP guest virtual machine
in windowed mode will only display 8bit color?
Tried to go into Display Properties and change to higher bit depth but
did not work.
Going full screen allows me to use 32bit color depth, but can't seem to
do that in windowed mode.
NOTE: I allocated 384MB RAM and 64MB video memory to the XP guest
virtual machine

Any ideas? Thanks!

Dear all,

In my VirtualBox images, I seem to have a problem with keyboard
keystroke repeat.

In a guest OS session, when in a shell window, or a VI session, I hold
down a key for a
few moments, it suddenly keeps on repeating for several minutes in a
row. E.g, arrow-down,
or repeated 'dd' in VI kept pressed for a short time then released
does quite often not just
move down, or erase a few lines, but suddenly keeps repeating for
several minutes (moving
down or erasing rest of file and at end of file keeping to repeat like
crazy).

If I'm 'just in time' to release the pressed key, the behaviour is OK:
repeating a few times
then stopping. There seems to be a point where behaviour toggles from
normal to erratic
is a split second.

I have this in Linux guests (both Centos and Debian have same
symptoms); Windows guests
do not seem to have the issue.

While I have the issue in one guest, this is completely blocked (mouse
moves work, but clicks
are not giving any effect

Hi Folks,

I'm a bit worried about VirtualBox and how it will fit into Oracle's
business model. I think it's a given that Oracle will expect their
new Sun purchase to turn a profit sooner than later. If it doesn't,
what parts will they shed and abandon? That they have announced the
decommissioning of vbox-users is also worth worrying about. The actual
cost of hosting the mailing list is close to zero, so what are they
thinking? Was Sun paying employees to participate in the list and now
Oracle wants to cut back?

What issues will the community face if VirtualBox is cast adrift?

Hi everyone, i'm a newcomer in the list, and expect to have a nice time
here. English is not my mother language, so please, forgive me for any
dumb thing that i may say.

What do I have:
I'm running a Ubuntu 9.10 i386 with the lastest vbox instalation. I
have a remote server running an Debian Etch AMD64 with no GUI.
I'll use the standard vbox version, not the OSE one.

What do i have to do:
Install an Windows Server 2008 Standard 32bit here in my machine and
export it to run in the Debian server.

Which are my doubts:
Can I run vbox without a GUI?
Can I install vbox from the repos without installing a full graphical
user (without the vbox GUI and/or the system GUI, like an X with KDE or
Gnome)?
I'll have trouble for installing the system in a 32bit OS and export to
a 64bit one?
There are others majors issues that i should expect?

Tks in advance.

Hey,

a Win-win scenario:

To the person who registered vboxusers.org, make it live, design a
nice logo, and make it a static web page, perhaps with a nice
marketing speech about what Virtualbox can do to end-users, and then
make it point to the Sourceforge mailing community mailing list. :)

But I also want to thank all contributors for their shared wisdom in

happily made the switch to vbox).

And concerning forums, I am member of some, but the simplicity and
effectiveness of a mailing list is far superior.
