<pre>Dear Sugar Developers,

The Translation Team is in desperate need of help to catch up with the
development workflow.

1) We need to migrate to a new Pootle instance that will get us upgraded to
2.5.

Our suggestion workflow has not worked for a long time, but we have lived
with it. There are a lot of new features in 2.5 that I think would be a big
help to us (translation memory access, etc.).

2) We need to re-engineer (and re-document) the process by which Glucose
versions are connected to Pootle from GitHub. All of those wonderful new
features in Glucose are only going to be available to English speakers
unless we can get L10n going on Glucose again.

I have tried to recruit someone to help with #1 before, but I unfortunately
keep losing my volunteers before they get started. I just do not have the
time or the technical skills to take this on by myself. I need someone to
step up to the plate and see this effort through.

#2 could possibly be tested before we have #1 done, but again, I don't have

<pre>Hello,

as discussed on the mailing list and in irc, we decided to license the web
modules under Apache 2.0. I think this will apply to

sugar-web
sugar-web-template
sugar-web-samples

I think it will not apply to sugar-web-test, which is basically a native
activity, we should just keep using GPLv2 there.

We are going to need to double license the sugar-artwork svg icons to
Apache to make this possible, I'll try to make sure that happens soon.

<pre>I think we should decide if changing the xo icon is a feature we _really_
want
include in sugar.

I am not sure if add too much value, but probably can add confusion,
more if is applied in all the places where the xo icons is used , like the
actual
implementation do. May be we can limit the change to only the favorites
view?

About the change in the control panel, in the past we tried to not add more
items,
like in the case of the proxy configuration, and that was a feature needed
in some
deployments.

Other opinions?

Use ObjectChooser filtering by activity

<pre>I am trying to solve AU ticket #2439 in a way than can be upstreamed.

The problem is with the limitations about how we define our generic mime
types.
In this case, "Text files" are defined as all the files than can be edited
by Write,
but that is not useful for Read, because can't open open office or abiword
files
and crashes.

A similar problem happen in the Jukebox activity, because we have defined
"Audio files"
and "Video Files", but not "Multimedia" or "Audio and Video".

Looking at the code, I found is possible do:

chooser = ObjectChooser(None, what_filter=self.get_bundle_id())

instead of:

chooser = ObjectChooser(None, what_filter=mime.GENERIC_TYPE_TEXT)

and that work in the Journal, filtering all the files availables for the
activity.

I think this is good to know for activity developers.

This does not work in Documents or external devices, the "activity"
parameter
is ignored. I filled the ticket [2] and will provide a patch

as we are approaching 0.99.0, I would like to update the features status.
Here is a summary of what I know about the features status, I would
appreciate if Walter and Ajay in particular could expand on it.

* HTML5 based toolkit for activities

Work seems to be progressing pretty smoothly here. It won't be completed
for 0.100 but we will do as much as possible.

* Icon customization

No patch submitted yet. Are we still planning to land the feature?

* Integration with web services

Actively developed. Seems like it will make it.

* Multiple home views

There seem to be no agreement on the design. Not sure how to move forward,
especially since it seem a bit of a sensitive topic :)

* Background customization

It needs refinements but I'll probably mark this done.

* Enhanced support for 3G modems

No patch has been submitted, are you still intentioned to land the feature?

* Multiple selection in the Journal

Patches needs to be submitted in a way reviewers feels comfortable to
review. No way around </pre>

<pre>Hello,

I've seen people asking about easy tasks to get started with sugar
development. A simple one would be to resync the tree.py in sugar-build
with the one in sugar-toolkit-gtk3 and then make sugar-build use the
toolkit one.

The duplication is unfortunate and it happened just because it took ages to
get tree.py integrated in toolkit. It would be great to fix it. (I just
made an API update that will need to be made in toolkit too at some point,
for example).

Happy to answer questions and give guidance on the task of course :)

With the XO out of the box, this didn't work as it could not find the

and then tried again. This time it resolved dependencies without error, but
then stopped with

[FEATURE] Automatic activity updates

<pre>Hi,

Over the last few months I have been slowly developing a much needed
field feature, the final piece in the "automatic system upgrade"
puzzle. Now I am getting close, I would like to open the
formalities...

http://wiki.sugarlabs.org/go/Features/Automatic_activity_updates

At this point I've iterated the design once or twice and implemented
most of this locally. I will hopefully publish the full patch series
in the next couple of weeks.

I understand this is too late for 0.100. What I would hope for is a
review and (after feedback) merge into a master branch before the end
of August. Then I will run a live field test and send in any necessary
refinements. This would then likely be deployed large scale in
Nicaragua at the end of the year or the start of the next.
