<pre>I just did a complete cleaning and re-installation of LibreOffice on my 64
bit Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. I now have LibreOffice Version 4.0.3.3 (Build ID:
0eaa50a932c8f2199a615e1eb30f7ac74279539) installed.

I was attempting to explore the grammar checking feature - using either F7
or "Tools | Spelling and Grammar ..." but have been unable to get it to do
anything. My sample was a new blank document in which I typed "the boyz is
good." The auto-correction capitalized the initial "T", and the spell
checker flagged "boyz," but there was no indication at all about a problem
with "boys is," even after re-running F7 once the spelling of "boys" had
been corrected.

Under Tools | Language Settings | Writing Aids - Available Language Modules,
"LightProof Language Checker" is checked.

Under Tools | Language Settings | Writing Aids - Options, "Check grammar as
you type" is checked.

In the Tools | Language Tool | Configuration dialog, I took one of the
checked examples of what the tool checks and used it in the document, as

Is there a wiki or something that has all the steps associated with getting

There is someone over on google+ asking for help and just not sure where to

I like this "quote".
NATO - well the US and Canada are part of NATO - correct?

That means that the USA, when dealing with other NATO members should use
ODF for their documentation and other files.

Any more national and international organization can added to that list?

That may force MSO to do ODF better or just start thinking about using
an office package that does it better than MSO does.

I am a little vague on what is involved with the "European Commission",
like how many of the EU are part of it, etc.. But, it does imply that
countries in Europe support the ODF format[s].

Since LO uses ODF as their default format, we support the policies of
these worldwide organizations. Since any Tech Adminknows that MS/MSO

<pre>Hello,

sorry for spamming all the lists, but in the light of recent events and
discussions, I'd like to make all of you aware of an important mailing
list, that so far has not been used as extensively as it should be,
which led to some frustration and communication issues.

As part of our mission to foster the project internal communication, I'd
like to tell you about our so called projects mailing list, which Sophie
initiated quite a while ago, and which should be used for communication
amongst the various projects - e.g. design and marketing, development
and marketing, UX and development, and the like.

The list's intention is not to be a gossip list where everything should
be thrown at, but to make all affected projects aware of important
changes. Philosophy: Low traffic, but important topics.

Some examples are: Change of version numbers, a new slogan, design
changes, new products. In other words: Everything that has an impact on
other areas of working than the one where the change originally</pre>

Seeking for list moderators

<pre>Hello,

at the moment, we are looking for volunteers who could help moderate
this mailing list.

If you are interested, the only requirement is that you are subscribed
to the list yourself and read its mails in a somehow timely manner, but
that's about it.

Moderation means dealing with e-mails that do not automatically make it
to the list, which you then manually forward, or reject. This happens
either when an e-mail comes from an unknown sender, e.g. when a project
member uses a different address for posting. It also occurs when someone
unexperienced writes to the list, thinking it's a private account, but
in fact it's a public list.

You'll receive the message to be moderated via e-mail, which you then
can either "moderate through", or reject.

Is someone interested in joining our efforts? It'd be much appreciated -
just drop me an email (please also copy me directly, and not only the
list), then I'm happy to add you to the list of moderators.

Thanks!
Florian

However, I now have the lower button bar that has most of the icons, like
Bold, Italic, Underline, etc. that with the updated looks of the tool bar
have become at about unreadable....

&lt;http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/file/n4052213/LibreOffice_Tool_Bar.jpg&gt;

Obviously on a big screen this most likely will not be any issue, but on the
1024x600 netbook screen this just wasn't such a smart move.

I did look, but only did find old messages on the tool bar, so I started
this new topic.
I did look into LO to see if I can use a different look, but haven't found
that (yet).

<pre>Hi all

Why doesn't Calc (at least under Windows...) use all available cores and
threads to speed up operations?

Opening a heavy (200k lines x 26 cols) xlsx file takes 6 seconds in a Intel
Core i5 (2 cores, 4 threads) using MS Office 2010. I can see the first 3
threads briefly going up to 70% load and it's loaded.

Using Calc 4.0.2 after waiting 5 minutes watching the first thread at over
85% load (and the fan whirring like crazy), I gave up waiting.

Is this a compiler limitation? A code limitation?

Regards,
Pedro

In the sequence of this topic at the Marketing list

I share Simon Phipps' concern that the company announces a GPL Open Source
office suite which is not free for commercial use???

Is this even possible under GPL?
This just spreads further confusion on how free Open Source software really
is...

Another sentence that worries me is "Microsoft Word .docx files and
OpenOffice.org and LibreOffice .odt files"

This is bad marketing and bad public image that ODT seems to be proprietary
of OpenOffice and LibreOffice. And yet I don't see any concerns about this
in the topic commenting the news article.

Shouldn't TDF be championing the ODF open formats or is this an OASIS job?

While working on my wiki page about a new Writer toolbar, I realized
that independently of my proposal, I believe it makes sense for
LibreOffice to prefer Python. I see how LO is heading in this
direction, but you could be explicit about it, create more workitems,
perhaps track it like you do the German comments and uncalled

You may have to support Java for years, but that doesn't mean you
should invest in the language. I wrote almost an entire chapter in my
book about some of the biggest problems with it
(http://keithcu.com/wordpress/?page_id=2228). You've already got a
layer that allows you to have bindings with multiple languages, and
you can just keep it around for any of the ones people care about.
This isn't about taking away language choices for users, but doing
what is best for your code and community.

According to Ohloh, Java is 5% of your code, Python is .5%, and Basic
is .2%. I know some wizards have been ported over, but it appears that
was just the start. I would consider </pre>

<pre>Hi;

I'm working on a proposal for building an experimental new LibreOffice
toolbar / UI in Python:
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/User:KeithCu

I'm going to add some links to places where the C++ code would need to
be changed and a few more tweaks, but I'm interested in feedback. Feel
free to use email or post in the discussion page as you prefer.

Regards,

-Keith
