<pre>Dear Vixens and Reynards:

      ARGH!

OK, I always thought that DE controls had an Activate. It
seems they do not, but I *have* had activate code getting executed.

I put the code in the control's gotfocus in my app where it had
not worked in my concept test code, and it worked.

The big difference between my concept test code and my app code
is that the former does not use pageframes and the latter does. Does
that make any difference?

Sincerely,

Gene Wirchnko

By cutting out the explicit setting of focus, I have gotten a

<pre>Dear Vixens and Reynards:

I am doing some clean-up of forms. On one form's date control,
on entry to the field, the cursor should be set to just before the
day part of the date. I was previously doing this with the keyboard command.

I had tried .selstart and .sellength, but it did not work. It
turns out that .gotfocus is the wrong event for it. It is .activate
that you have to put the selection code in.

      This worked fine in tests.

Unfortunately, in the form, this is the first control. For
some reason, it does not work. If I swap the first two controls,
then it does work. This will not be acceptable for the production app though.

The .activate code does execute, but it does not
select. Instead, the cursor is positioned at the beginning of the field.

How do I get .selstart and .sellength to work right?

I suppose it could be something in my form framework code, but
I have been wrestling with this this morning, and if it is a VFP
quirk instead one </pre>

<pre>Guys,
I've just been asked by someone to connect to their webservices and consume some info. I have tried all the std demos that seem to be available after trawling through the interweb but can't even get a start on how to understand the damned thing along with Soap etc...

I know Allen (if he is around) has done lots of work with web services and his feedback has not been complimentary to the technology at times so has anyone got a very simple bit of code for a web service that actually works to get me started. I did have a VFP examplel onto the Daily Dilbert that I downloaded some time ago but that is dead now for the code that I have and something like that would be really helpful.

On most of the examples I get as far as:

loWS = NEWOBJECT("WSHandler",IIF(VERSION(2)=0,"",HOME()+"FFC\")+"_ws3client.vcx")

This does creat an loWS object but when I create the actual client.. eg (for one downloaded example that doesn't work):

loZipWS = loWS.SetupClient("http://webservices.eraserver.net/zipcoderesolver/zipco</pre>

<pre>As many of you know - I've been doing this Screen Hacking stuff - as part of
a utility to generate Screens/Forms - based upon older system PRG files.

So - We are now doing testing of the new screens - and my Boss noticed that
the Fonts on the screen looked like SHIT when running on WinXP - even the
SAME Screen design looked just FINE when running under Win7.

All our Dev. here is done on Win7 PC's. But, we also have an XP machine here
they use for testing &amp; Client support. And, since many of the clients still
use XP - the programs must work under Win7 &amp; XP.

The font I'm using for the main screen field labels is Arial - 12 - not
Bold. When view on XP - they come out looking REALLY Skinny! Also, the font
on the menu buttons - is Times New Roman - 12 - Bold Italic. The buttons
look Great on Win7 - but, under XP - they actually look fuzzy - almost like
I am looking at a screenshot image with Compression Artifacts - even though
I am actually looking at a running system.

Am open to suggestions! Ar</pre>

<pre>On this one screen, I have these field Labels that are all Right Justified -
but, if you Resize the screen - the labels are no longer lined up.

I just did another Test - with another column of labels on the same Screen -
I LEFT Aligned them - ran a test - and they stay aligned when the screen
Expands.

So - obviously - the problem ONLY Occurs with Labels that are Right aligned.
And, I also figure I understand Why it happens - probably related to the
Anchoring of those Labels (just a WAG).

RK - I know you've been doing a lot work with the Resizer thing. So - I was
curious if YOU came across this problem before - and, if so - how did you
resolve it? Unless you simply don't Right Align labels...

<pre>I want to be sure that IIF files I create in a VFP program are imported into Quick Books. My current thought is to have the system maintain a table of the output IIF files created with file name, creation timestamp and transfer timestamp. This information will allow the system to refuse further processing until the previous file has been transferred.

The system would scan the log file for records with an empty transfer timestamp field and do an API call to get the files last accessed time. The value would then be plugged into the log file record if it is later than the creation date.

I'm hoping that I can read the file properties from the OS to get the last access time without changing the value of the field. I also hope the import operation from Quick Books will update the last access time. Googling gave me bad news about the time not being reliable, the copy operation not updating the last accessed property, and different behavior in different versions of Windows.
