I have added a couple of disks on an HSZ50 based array, TRU64 4.0d

The new disks are visible using scu:
scu> show edt

CAM Equipment Device Table (EDT) Information:

Device: RZ28M Bus: 0, Target: 0, Lun: 0, Type: Direct Access

I used mknod to create the device special files:
mknod /dev/rzb10a b 8 17536

and
mknod /dev/rrz10a c 8 17536

as well as ........ b 8 17600

This seemed to go OK too.

disklabel seemed OK -

# disklabel -r /dev/rrzb10a

All looks as it should (except partition a - should be unused)

Next create a file system:

# newfs /dev/rzb10c
Warning: /dev/rrzb10c is marked in use for 4.2BSD in the disklabel.
If you continue with the operation you can
possibly destroy existing data.
CONTINUE? [y/n] y
write error: 4109469
wtfs: No space left on device

I get this no space left message no matter what partition I use. I have
run DILX on the two drives (read only) and no errors showed up so I'm
guessing my rusty unix skills and aging memory are failing me.

Does anyone have any idea what step I'm missing? This server has been
accessing other units on this HSZ50 for years....

TIA,

Ralf

Question on Tru64unix and building a Python-2 environment

Hello,

Is anyone running Python version 2.5.<something> (or higher) on Tru64?
If so, were you able to build it from the source distribution? I have
been trying to build Python-2.5.6, both with the native Tru64 C compiler
and with gcc-4.6.3, but I keep running into problems in the extensions
build section. Specifically: the native Tru64 C compiler appears to build
cleanly; however, the 'make test' fails on the test_ctypes, test_file and
test_zlib steps. I suspect that the test_zlib failure can be addreseed, but
the test_ctypes and test_file failures may be more significant problems;
the gcc build fails on the _curses and _curses_panel steps identified by
the gcc compiler as a problem with the curses.h/ncurses.h headers(?). I
have built other software with this gcc-4.6.3 environment without running
into that particular issue.
I would appreciate any suggestions or references for further work to
resolve the issues that I have encountered.

Thanks,
Bill

Issue with HSZ80 EMU

I have an ES40 that is connected to a BA370 array with HSZ80
controllers. The EMU alarm went off, giving me a solid amber light on
the EMU button and on the BA370 upper-right LED. I pushed the button,
and that stopped the alarm.

According to this:

http://www.ds10.com/FPL/HW/STOR/ENCLOSURES/BA370/SHOOTERS/ts_emu_module.html
http://www.ds10.com/FPL/HW/STOR/ENCLOSURES/BA370/SHOOTERS/emu_error_codes.html

this means an error condition (temp, blower, DC or term power).
However, the combination of LEDs I see isn't in the list. I have the
system fault LED solid amber and the power LED solid green. Nothing is
blinking, and all the blower LEDs are out.

Everything appears to be operating correctly; the HSZ80s both report no
errors, I can feel all the fans blowing, the air is cool, the power
looks good.

Any ideas as to what might be wrong?

SUMMARY: AS800 can't see disks on RA3000

SUMMARY:

As I expected, it was something simple. I needed to run doconfig so the
new adapter would get loaded at boot. After that, piece of cake!

Thanks to Raul Sossa Sossa for quick response!

Cheers!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have a new (to me) RA3000 with one mirror set created. The unit was
attached to an AlphaServer 400 with no other controllers in it. That
server booted from rz0 internal, and the mirror set showed up as rz8. I
built file systems, added an informix database and pretty much tested it
out for a couple of days. I shut everything down, connected the ra3000 to
a new controller with a y cable and external terminator in my AlphaServer
800 (already has a kz adapter connected to an hsz40, and a mylex for
booting). At the srm prompt, is see the new controller as pkc0.5.0.14.0,
and the disk as dkc0.0.0.14.0

Problem: when I boot unix ( 4.0g same as the AlphaServer400 ), the device
special files aren't being created, and scsimgr -scan_all doesn't find the

disks either. The mylex drives show up as re0, the hsz40 drives are rz128

and rz129. Its been years since I've had to mess with this stuff....

TIA

disks either. The mylex drives show up as re0, the hsz40 drives are rz128

and rz129. Its been years since I've had to mess with this stuff....

TIA

  1. Send only HP Tru64 UNIX (formerly Compaq Tru64 UNIX (formerly |
Digital UNIX (formerly Digital OSF/1))) system management questions and |
summaries to tru64-unix-managers< at >ornl.gov. Include your return address in
the body of your message so people can reply directly to you. Avoid MIME
and HTML--many people can't read them.

  2. This list is not moderated! Every message that is sent to the list will
be passed on to every member of the list (with a few small exceptions).

  3. This mailing list is managed by a utility called Majordomo. You can
subscribe to the list by sending a message like:

           subscribe tru64-unix-managers

     to majordomo< at >ornl.gov.

Likewise, if you want to remove yourself from the list, send the
     message:

           unsubscribe tru64-unix-managers

to the same address. If that fails, examine the headers of a message
from the list. You should see something like:

           From tru64-unix-managers-owner-you=your.domain< at >sws1.ctd.ornl.gov Wed Dec 31 17:02:32 1997

Your subscription address is embedded in the return address after
     "tru64-unix-managers-owner-" and before "< at >sws1.ctd.ornl.gov". Just
replace the "=" with an "< at >". Then send a message to majordomo< at >ornl.gov
     containing:

           unsubscribe tru64-unix-managers you< at >your.domain

If you don't see anything like this, let me know and I'll see if I can
     find you on the list.

For a complete list of Majordomo commands, use the command:

           help

  4. This list is intended to be a quick-turnaround troubleshooting aid for
those who administer and manage Alpha AXP systems running Tru64 UNIX. |
Its primary purpose is to provide the Tru64 UNIX manager with a quick
source of information for time-critical system management problems.

  5. This list is not available as a digest. If you don't want a bunch of
list messages cluttering your mailbox, use procmail, deliver, or some
other filtering mechanism to file list messages in a separate folder.
You can also unsubscribe from the list and read it via the web
     archives.

  6. Answers to questions are to be mailed back to the questioner and are
not to be sent to the entire list. Before responding, please make sure
the questioner hasn't already posted a summary. People often respond
very quickly to messages posted to the list and it's not unusual for a
summary to be posted within an hour of the original question. This is
especially important if you only read list messages periodically.

  7. The person who originally asked the question has the responsibility of
summarizing the answers and sending the entire summary back to the
list. Consider this the price you pay for the advice you receive. When
a summary is sent back to the list, it should contain the word
"SUMMARY" as the first word of the "Subject" line. The summary should
include a brief description of the original question and a short
synopsis of each of the unique responses. Don't just list the
respondents or say the problem is fixed, and don't just include a copy
     of all of the responses.

  8. Discussions on any topic are very strongly discouraged and will not
     normally be tolerated.

  9. Unsolicited Commercial E-mail (UCE), also known as "SPAM", is, of
course, not allowed. If you receive an inappropriate message via the
list, feel free to complain to the originator or the originator's
service provider. Do not post complaints to the list.

10. If it is not technical and specifically related to Tru64 UNIX
management, then it does not belong on this list. Requests for vendor
recommendations are tolerated, provided that the hardware in question
is something that system managers normally purchase.

11. Requests for software (free or otherwise) should be limited to software
that is directly related to Tru64 UNIX management.

12. Tru64 UNIX-related job offers must be submitted for posting to the list |
owner at tru64-unix-managers-owner< at >ornl.gov. Resumes should be posted |
to the relevant *.resumes newsgroups. |

13. Please...Think before you send a message! Ask yourself "Is this really
appropriate?" There are enough other newsgroups and mailing lists
around to cover the marginal topics. Perhaps there is another forum
     that is more appropriate.

     Wide Web (WWW):

Question:

Tru64 5.1B

I'm unable to find documentation that confirms or denies that this platform can
run dual stack IPv4/IPv6. If you have or have not been able to get this to
work, I would appreciate feedback.

On a separate but related note -- does anyone know if HP Insight Manager can
listen on an IPv6 address?
