Evening everybody! I'm happy to announce that our new mailing lists
are ready for usage, so we plan to complete our transition to them in a
week's time. This one will be closed to new posts ASAP (meaning, when I
get to it later on today ;-) and an auto-reply will be sent instructing
you to join the new ones on MacOSForge if you do happen to post to it
by mistake. Therefore all current and new threads will be
continued/held there. For more information on our new mailing lists,
check my post explaining them:

http://opendarwin.org/pipermail/darwinports/2006-September/035470.html

Next week I'll consider this list completely closed and ready for
removal from the map, so be quick to join us on MacOSForge if you're
interested in keeping up with discussion.

Regards,...

Port Authority 1.1, the GUI for MacPorts, is now available. This
version updates the application to reflect the transition to the
MacPorts name, interface enhancements, an improved user help system
that is now searchable and easily browsed, and bug fixes.

With this release, I am moving away from the hybrid freeware/payware
approach that I used with version 1.0. The free X11 version will no
longer be developed. I have changed the license from GPL to a standard
shareware license. A free updater is available for paid users of the
1.0-Aqua version, and a 30-day demo is available for others who wish to
try the Aqua version.

For more information, and to download, see
http://www.kevin-walzer.com/software/portauthority_aqua/.

Support questions should be directed to me off-list. Thank you.

I found some posts pointing out QuickTime 7.0.1/7.0.4 as a potential

the version of QT that I use here is 7.1...

OSX 10.3.9, DP up to date, Xcode 1.5.

So... any ideas, hints..? Thanks in advance!

Has anyone had any luck installing the tomcat5 port (and its dependencies
such as kaffe, junit, et al) on a Mac running Intel and 10.4.x ?

I have had an awful time trying to install the tomcat5 "family" of ports
starting with kaffe on Intel. Previously I had no problem installing these
port on the PPC Macs but now starting with Darwin Ports 1.3.2 and
XCode 2.4(as recommended by several people on the mailing list who
scolded me for
using anything less than 2.4), I can not even get the kaffe port to install
successfully on PPC.

If there's not much interest and if maintenance is too much of a hassle,
perhaps MacPorts should consider dropping the tomcat5 / java related ports
from the entire repertoire of ports?

Best regards,

T.

Newbie problem building mod_dav_svn

Help!

I'm trying to get Apache2 running with mod_dav_svn. I am stuck because
I simply can't seem to get mod_dav_svn.so built. Everything seems to
work correctly, so there's no error to report. Ideally, I'd prefer to
use the apache2 that is pre-installed, but any solution would be
appreciated.

First attempt:
port install subversion
...generates what seems to be a working version of svn with no errors,
but no Apache module either.

Second attempt:
port install subversion +mac-os-x-server-mod_dav_svn
...generates with no errors, but doesn't seem any different. The
output version is listed as < at >1.3.1_0+mod_dav_svn (active)

When I looked at the above variant, it seems to be looking for
/opt/apache2, which is not where the default (Apple) install of apache
is installed. It looks like there's a reference to
/opt/apache2/bin/apxs that doesn't work. A symlink to /usr/sbin/apxs
doesn't do the trick either.

Third attempt, trying to use the open darwin port of Apache2:
port install apache2
port install subversion+mod_dav_svn

again, no errors. Just no mod_dav_svn.so, anywhere.

At this point, I'm completely baffled. How does one generate the Apache module?

MacOS 10.4.7
Mac Mini Intel (duo)

Many, many thanks.

This is a very rudimentary question, but so is my understanding of
how this building process works.

I wish to change a few parameters for a game (amphetamine) I found
the file in the source that holds the paramters, and I know what I
want to change them to, but I can't figure out how to change them and
rebuild.

When port builds something, it always uses the bz2 file, right? How
do I tell it I want to specify a different source for one file?

Or, how do I use the portfile to build independently of the port
command.

Or, how do I do this in a more sensible way than I can come up with?

It has been a nemesis trying to build these desktops. Not having them is not

gnome-vfs is broken (but I'm testing and providing feedback to Randall on
this score) ... a lot of the Gnome Desktop ports are dependent on gnome-vfs

What about KDE?

Good evening people! I'd like to announce that Kevin has already setup
our new mailing lists over at macosforge, for us to move there and thus
continue our migration.

New lists look like this:

-) macports-users< at >lists.macosforge.org: for all macports users in need
of day to day support with ports and macports itself. Open to all,
posts from non subscribers will be discarded.
-) macports-dev< at >lists.macosforge.org: dedicated exclusively to macports
development, open to anyone interested in the topic. No general support
will be provided on this list. Posts from non subscribers will be
discarded.
-) macports-tickets< at >lists.macosforge.org: where details of new trac
ticket and changes to existing ones are posted to. Open to all, posts
from non subscribers will be discarded.
-) macports-changes< at >lists.macosforge.org: where commit logs of svn
checkins get posted. Open to all, posts from non subscribers will be
discarded.
-) macports-mgr< at >lists.macosforge.org: new portmgr< at > list, where you'll
find James, Markus and me. You all know its purpose so no need to
explain ;-) Subscription is restricted, requiring our approval, but as
this is the place you need to turn to for any admin requests you might
have, the list is open to posts from non subscribers.

At your convenience visit
http://lists.macosforge.org/mailman/listinfo/ and subscribe to the
lists you want. I thought about mass migrating all the subscribers of
the OpenDarwin based lists to the new ones, but decided against it
because through out time we've received a few complaints about failed
attempts to sign off from our lists. Therefore, by letting you all
resubscribe for yourselves I'm giving you a chance to rethink your
membership.

We are requiring all ports/base committers to subscribe to the first
four lists, to assure we're all always on top of any important changes
that might affect in whatever way the course of the project and/or of
particular ports you maintain. Kevin already setup most cvs account
holders with svn access, but missed some of you for some reason. I'm
building a list with those missing ID's to remedy the situation, so
please feel free to e-mail me if you're a cvs account holder but didn't
receive instructions from us to setup your svn access. I'll get in
touch with you in the coming days with proper instructions.

Not sure when OpenDarwin lists will close down, but for the time being
I think we can continue regular discussion here. Start subscribing to
the new lists and when the time comes I'll signal the switchover, the
day when we cease discussions here and start them over/continue them on
macosforge. I figure that anyone who doesn't subscribe to the new lists
by that moment, maybe because he/she didn't pick up this message, just
aint too interested in participating (c.f. rethinking your membership
;-)

Thanks to all for your attention and, as always, feel free to contact
me (and/or James and Markus ;-) for any concern you might have.
Regards,...

Making X11 app ports

There is a submitted port that installs an executable in /usr/X11R6/bin
and the port bombs if you try to put it anywhere else because it looks for
other things in the bin install directory, bdftopcf for example.

https://svn.macosforge.org/projects/macports/ticket/7488

Not to mention that it installs fonts in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts, or is
that normal when using Apple's X11 with MacPorts? I've never understood
how this is handled with Apple's X11. A short paragraph by someone that
understands this would be cool. I could make it into a FAQ item.

Serious bug in 'port upgrade' in DP 1.32?

Hi all,

I just tried upgrading all my outdated ports via

port -df upgrade outdated

(as suggested by Daniel J. Luke in a previous thread), and I had the
following problem. The list of outdated ports was as follows:

pb-g4:~ artemio$ port outdated
The following installed ports are outdated:
cairo 1.2.4_0 < 1.2.4_1
gtk2 2.10.2_0 < 2.10.2_1
pango 1.14.0_0 < 1.14.2_0

The first port in need of upgrade is cairo, which depends (among other
ports) on render, which in turn depends on pkgconfig. The problem is
(see output of port upggrade command below) that port first proceeds
(correctly) to deactivate this package, but when it's finished it
immediately starts rebuilding pkgconfig from scratch!

Does anybody know what the problem may be (apart from a bug in 'port
upgrade' in DP 1.32), and how to fix it?

Thanks everybody,

Artemio

problems with gtk

Hello everyone,
I just started to discover Darwin Ports, I had used Linux before i
passed to Mac Os X so i'm excited by the fact that i can use the
'old' apps i knew.
In particular i'm interested in the use of bluefish.
I installed darwin Ports and then i installed, for example, bzflag;
everything gone right.
When i try to install bluefish (or cannonsmash, and so everything
that makes use of gtk ) i receive this kind of error:

powerbook-g4-15-di-mattia-macaluso:~ tia$ bluefish

(bluefish:11670): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:

Then i'm moved to my prompt.
What's the problem? what can i do?
Thank you for the help.
Mattia
