Updated: screen 4.1.0-20130513-1

<pre>A new test version of screen, 4.1.0-20130513-1, is available in the Cygwin
distribution, both 32 and 64 bits.

This is a test release. To get it in setup.exe or setup64.exe, you'll have to
click on the "Exp" radio button at top right of the "Select Packages" window.

This is the first update of screen in Cygwin since the last official upstream
release, version 4.0.3, back in 2005. Although version 4.1.0 isn't officially
released, development has continued and there are many fixes and new features in
this Cygwin release:

* The much-requested vertical split feature is now supported upstream and
available in this release.

* All the old crufty patches that used to be needed to get screen to work in
Cygwin, are apparently no longer needed now. Both Cygwin and screen have
matured a lot in the last 8 years, so I take this as a good sign.

* And I'm sure lots more stuff in the last 8 years that I don't know about.

Please test this release, and report here how it's working for you. I'll be
using it for my daily work now, and if there are no major complaints after a few
weeks, I'll move it from test to current.

screen is a terminal multiplexer and window manager that runs several separate
'screens' on a single physical character-based terminal. Each virtual terminal
emulates a DEC VT100 plus several ANSI X3.64 and ISO 2022 functions. You can
create multiple windows with any programs in them, kill the current window,
switch between windows or copy text between them, view a list of active windows,
rename windows, view scrollback history, and more. You can detach your session
and even log out if you wish; your programs will keep running, and you can
reattach later, maybe when logged in from a different host.

copies from upstream git, fixing packages using automake-1.9 or older on
x86_64-cygwin.

* New perl_sax_parser_register() function in perl.cygclass, for handling
postinst/prerm registration of XML::SAX parser engines.

Changes in this release (8):
       list_deps: refine Python dependency detection
       perl: add XML::SAX parser postinst/prerm commands
       mirrors: update mirror_portage
       autotools: always replace config.guess and config.sub

DESCRIPTION
===========

Text::CSV_XS provides facilities for the composition and decomposition
of comma-separated values. An instance of the Text::CSV_XS class will
combine fields into a CSV string and parse a CSV string into fields.

The module accepts either strings or files as input and support the use
of user-specified characters for delimiters, separators, and escapes.

DESCRIPTION
===========

Text::CSV provides facilities for the composition and decomposition of
comma-separated values using Text::CSV_XS or its pure Perl version.

An instance of the Text::CSV class can combine fields into a CSV string
and parse a CSV string into fields.

The module accepts either strings or files as input and can utilize any
user-specified characters as delimiters, separators, and escapes so it
is perhaps better called ASV (anything separated values) rather than
just CSV.

Updated: run2-0.4.2-1

<pre>The run2 package provides two utilities: 'run2' and 'checkX' (as
the package is actually a renamed and updated successor to the
now-obsoleted checkx package). The first utility is a more powerful
replacement for the venerable 'run' utility that has long been a
part of the cygwin distribution. The second is a test utility that
detects whether an Xserver is active, and exits with an appropriate
status value.

'run2' launches console programs while hiding any actual console
(dos box) that may ordinarily be associated with them. In addition,
'run2' can:
  * set/modify environment variables before launching
    the target program
  * specify a start directory from which to launch the target
  * detect whether an X server is active or not, and
    launch one of two different targets -- with different
    command line arguments, environment settings, and
    startup dirs.
'run2' uses an external XML configuration file to control its own
operation, and to specify the settings which should be applied to
the target program(s).

CHANGES since 0.4.0-1
============================
o Avoid program compatibility issues on W7. See
  http://cygwin.com/ml/cygwin-developers/2012-02/msg00022.html
o Fix several bugs in canonicalizing ~ paths
o First 64bit build

Known Limitations
============================
o Makes no attempt to handle wide characters, or national
  language or UTF-8 encodings -- neither in filenames to
  target applications to launch, nor in the contents of the
  configuration xml files.

Future Plans (PTC!)
============================
o support for long filenames
o support for wide chars/unicode filenames
o use ustr library for more/all string handling, to support:
o wide chars/unicode in xml config file contents

<pre>ustr (Micro string library) is a string API for C. It has tiny overhead
over just plain strdup(), is much safer, is easier to use, is faster
for many operations, and can be used with read-only or automatically
allocated data. You don't even need to link to the library to use it
(so there are no dependencies).

Changes since 1.0.4-11

* Update to latest cygport
* There is no debug package, because the library (can be)
  used entirely as a collection of .h files.

<pre>A new release of cyrus-sasl and related packages is available.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
===============
The previous 2.1.25-1 package included an ABI change from upstream
without updating the DLL names. This can cause problems with other
packages that were compiled against the earlier version of
cyrus-sasl (e.g., exim or openldap).

Users of those packages should downgrade their libsasl2 package to
2.1.23-1 to avoid any problems.

This update includes a new libsasl2_3 package that can be installed
in parallel with the older libsasl2 package.

CYGWIN CHANGES:
==============
* Re-enable PostgreSQL support.

DESCRIPTION:
============
SASL is the Simple Authentication and Security Layer, a method for
adding authentication support to connection-based protocols. To use
SASL, a protocol includes a command for identifying and
authenticating a user to a server and for optionally negotiating
protection of subsequent protocol interactions. If its use is
negotiated, a security layer is inserted between the protocol and
the connection.

DESCRIPTION:
============
The mission of the Apache Portable Runtime (APR) project is to
create and maintain software libraries that provide a predictable
and consistent interface to underlying platform-specific
implementations. The primary goal is to provide an API to which
software developers may code and be assured of predictable if not
identical behaviour regardless of the platform on which their
software is built, relieving them of the need to code special-case
conditions to work around or take advantage of platform-specific
deficiencies or features.

ADVISE for major version UPGRADE
http://www.postgresql.org/support/versioning/

Major releases usually change the internal format of system tables
and data files. These changes are often complex, so we do not maintain
backward compatibility of all stored data. A dump/reload of the
database or use of the pg_upgrade module is required for major upgrades.

DESCRIPTION
PostgreSQL is a powerful, open source object-relational database system.
It has a proven architecture that has earned it a strong reputation for
reliability, data integrity, and correctness.
It is fully ACID compliant, has full support for foreign keys, joins, views,
triggers, and stored procedures (in multiple languages).
It includes most SQL:2008 data types

[TEST] sqlite3-3.7.17-3

<pre>This is the first formal test release of SQLite 3.7.17. These are -3
packages because there were two informal test releases prior to this.

Because it is a "test" release, you have to select it specially from the
setup.exe packages screen. You still get 3.7.16.2-1 by default.

Aside from tracking the upstream .17 release, this Cygwin build does
many things, which is why I am going through a multistage test sequence.
  This is the last stage before final release.

Heretofore, Cygwin SQLite has been built in "Cygwin mode," where SQLite
bypasses the Cygwin DLL for some calls, particularly in regards to file
locking. These calls go straight to the Win32 API. This lets Cygwin
SQLite do file locking the same way native Win32 builds of SQLite do, so
that any pair of programs can cooperate in their use of a single DB
file, regardless of which version of SQLite they are built against.

I did once (3.7.12.1-1) ship Cygwin SQLite built the other way, in "Unix
mode," which forces the SQLite code to treat Cygwin as any other POSIX
platform. This has the benefit that file locking works the way POSIX
programs expect, but it breaks compatibility with the huge number of
programs built against native SQLite.

This gave me a choice of evils: I could choose to break compatibility
with native Win32 programs, or I could break compatibility with other
Cygwin programs. I chose the second option, simply because there are
more native Win32 programs than Cygwin programs using SQLite.

This impasse was broken -- we hope -- by a feature added by Corinna in
Cygwin 1.7.19 and extended in 1.7.20. It allows a program -- such as
Cygwin SQLite -- to request that the DLL do file locking in a way more
compatible with native Windows programs. This release uses this new
feature by default, so that despite being built in Unix mode, it should
still interoperate with native Windows programs that also use SQLite.

You do require Cygwin 1.7.20 to properly test this new package. The
variant of the feature in 1.7.19 doesn't work for SQLite, so this -3
test release no longer has code to attempt to enable it. (The original
version of this new feature may still be useful to other programs, so it
hasn't been removed from the Cygwin DLL.) These new packages will still
run under Cygwin 1.7.18 and earlier, but they will behave the same as
the ill-fated SQLite 3.7.12.1 release in regards to locking.

If you have had problems in the past with SQLite interoperability with
native Windows programs, please test with this new release. You
shouldn't have to do anything to test its interoperability with native
Windows programs.

If your interop problems were with other Cygwin programs, then you want
to set the new CYGWIN_SQLITE_LOCKING environment variable to "posix".
(Case doesn't matter.) This will suppress Cygwin SQLite's call to the
new Cygwin API, so it behaves like a stock Unix mode build.

Because this test release removes the "posixmand" feature, if you tested
the -1 or -2 releases, I ask that you re-test with -3. I believe you
will see no change, but y'all are the ones with all the important test
cases. :)

This version of Cygwin SQLite also makes one other big, potentially
breaking change: temporary files are created in-memory exclusively, by
default.

There is some concern that this could cause problems with huge DB files
on 32-bit Cygwin. If this version of SQLite fails with some
out-of-memory error with your DB, there is a pragma you can set to make
it behave the old way:

https://www.sqlite.org/pragma.html#pragma_temp_store

If setting this pragma to 1 fixes such an error, I want to hear it!
(I'd also be curious to know how big the DB file is, and how much RAM
there is in your machine.)

Note that this isn't the same thing as loading the entire DB into RAM.
If your DB is, say, 5 GB, you needn't worry about 4 GB memory limits in
32-bit systems. The problem should only come up with DB files much
bigger than this, so that it needs gigs just to store its temporary
working data.

The open question is what that ratio is, between DB file size and
working set size. It is doubtless dependent on the queries you run, and
probably on other things like indexing.

This is an update to last week's upstream patchset, with the following

* The 'vi' binary now uses ~/.virc and /etc/virc instead of vimrc to
avoid errors with configuration options not supported by 'vi'.

* gvim on x86_64 uses the GTK+ interface.

<pre>Cygutils is a collection of useful(?) tools for the cygwin

certain dependency issues.

CHANGES (from cygutils-1.4.12-1)
================================
* Split into multiple subpackages to simplify dependencies
  - cygutils contains only cygstart, mkshortcut, readshortcut
    and is in the Base category.
  - cygutils-x11 contains the (X11) desktop integration files
    and has relatively heavyweight dependencies, and is in the
    X11 category.
  - cygutils-extra contains the rest of the utilities and
    documentation, and is in the Utils category.

TODO (call for patches):
================================
* Update (some?) utilities to handle unicode filenames, similar to
  IWAMURO Motonori's work on cygstart. Which utilities need this?
  mkshortcut and lpr, probably. Any others?

<pre>Hi Cygwin friends and users,

I just released Cygwin 1.7.19.

What's new:
===========

- Drop support for Windows 2000 and Windows XP pre-SP3.

- Add support for building a 64 bit version of Cygwin on x86_64 natively.

- Add support for creating native symlinks (CYGWIN=winsymlinks:native or
  CYGWIN=winsymlinks:nativestrict).

- Add support for the AFS filesystem.

- Preliminary support for mandatory locking via fcntl/flock/lockf, using
  Windows locking semantics. New F_LCK_MANDATORY fcntl command.

- New APIs: __b64_ntop, __b64_pton, arc4random, arc4random_addrandom,
  arc4random_buf, arc4random_stir, arc4random_uniform.

Bug fixes:
==========

- getgrouplist now always creates a group list, even if it's empty.
  Fixes: http://cygwin.com/ml/cygwin/2013-05/msg00157.html

- In fork, call CreateProcessW with the same command line as the parent
