I know many of you don't like Meetup.com, but the fact is that people
do use it and like it.

Most importantly, they look at it. The look at the event page for last
night, where we had
ten or so attendees, and they see only 3 RSVPs. They look and think
we're a tiny group
and no one shows up or participates, so they don't bother showing up themselves.

Do a small part to promote TriZPUG today and tell meetup that you did,
in fact, attend.

And RSVP in the future!

PyCarolinas 2012 Call For Proposals

PyCarolinas 2012 Call For Proposals

PyCarolinas 2012, the first Python conference held in the carolinas,
is now accepting proposals! We’re looking for proposals for talks you
can present to this great and growing Python community.

PyCarolinas will be held in October in Chapel Hill, NC. The exact
location and dates of the two-day conference will be announced
shortly.

The proposal deadline is July 20, 2011. Please submit your proposals
to talks< at >pycarolinas.org.
About PyCarolinas 2012

PyCarolinas 2012 is the first Python Conference held in the carolinas
and will be located in Chapel Hill, NC this October. The specific date
and location will be announced shortly. It is a two day conference,
with one day of talks and one day or sprinting.
Who should submit a proposal?

Anyone! We’re looking for as broad a cross-section of the Python
community as possible.

We’re looking for both experienced conference speakers and people new
to technical conferences; industry professionals and hobbyists;
entrepreneurs, researchers, and system administrators. You’ve probably
learned something that other Python users could benefit from, so come
toPyCarolinas and share your story. Maybe you’ve written the next
great data mining package, or you have a case study to share, or
you’ve learned something about how to start a Python users’ group, or
you just want to help novices learn how to choose a Python web
framework.

If you have something to tell your fellow Python programmers, this is
your chance.

You don’t have to be a professional speaker to give a talk at
PyCarolinas. Presenters can be volunteers from all walks of life and
all levels of experience. From hardcore hackers to educators to
hobbyists, anyone with something to say and the desire to say it is
welcome.

If you have a topic idea but you’re not sure exactly how to turn it
into a killer session, let us know! The program committee is happy to
work with you to help your session shine.
What kind of sessions can I give?

PyCarolinas 2012, as a small event, is acceptingonly traditional
sessions during the main conference. We are looking for sessions at 30
and 45 minutes. All levels of talks from from novice-level overviews
to advanced topics are welcome.
Conference registration and travel

PyCarolinas is entirely volunteer-organized and run, and must keep
costs as low as possible. We are unable to provide assistance or
compensation for speakers traveling to and staying near the conference
for the duration of the event.
Timeline and deadlines

Please don’t delay! The proposal window is long, but the sooner you
submit a proposal, the more time we’ll have to help you put forward
the best proposal. The program committee will officially begin
reviewing proposals and giving feedback as soon as the CFP closes, but
the team will attempt to begin reviewing and discussing proposals
prior to the close of the Call for Proposals to assist authors.

Proposals for talks will be accepted until July 20th. The list of
selected talks and tutorials will be finalized by the end of August.

Thank you!

Submit your proposal to talks< at >pycarolinas.org and thanks for helping
us make the first ever PyCarolinas great!

TrizPUG and CharPy,

Some of you may already know that plans are underway for PyCarolinas
2012, to be held in October.
As the two Python User Groups in those "carolinas" (and please let me
know if SC has any groups I
should be including as well) I'd like to invite anyone interested to
join the organizer list. This will also
be where talks will be submitted.

This is hosted on google groups and you can request membership here:

I am keeping this private, but not forbidding anyone from joining. I
just want to keep discussion about
talk submissions a little non-public.

Thank you to anyone who wants to lend a hand or just attend!

This is Chris's first time hosting. He's got our room reservation but is

into the building and room at 7pm. If any of our NCSU members can help
Chris, please speak up.

I'll be driving straight to the meeting from Plone Symposium at Penn
State. So just because I'm making this announcement, please don't call
me if you can't get in the building. We're all in the same boat in that
regard.

TriZPUG,

Caktus Consulting Group has offered to host a new monthly project
night for TriZPUG, with the inaugural meeting this May 2nd. This is
announced on both on the trizpug.org website and meetup.com, which I
want to strongly encourage everyone to use and RSVP with, tho it is
not required. RSVPs tell prospective members that we are an active
group and publicise the turnout for our events. A simple RSVP if you
plan to attend, or even if you don't, is a very simple way to help
visibility to new and potential members.

Event Description:

Have a project you want to show off, share, seek help with, or just
get some work done surrounded my like minded python lovers? Join us
for our first monthly hack night and do just that! Don't have
something to work on? Show up and enjoy the energy, sprint on an open
source project, find something interesting to contribute to or be
inspired by!

The setting is informal and there is no schedule, so don't worry if
you show up past the start time.

PyOhio 2012 Call for Proposals

I know it's not local, but PyOhio is the largest regional Python
conference in the US and is in its fifth year:

http://pyohio.org

It may also be of interest to some of you because PyCon sold out a month
early this year leaving many people who wanted to go without tickets. It
may also be of interest to those of you who have been talking about
planning a similar event locally.

Did I mention PyOhio is free to attend? Yep, free.

PyOhio brought in about 200 people last year. I know people from all
over the US who go to it, simply because it is a smaller affair than
PyCon. It attracts speakers from all over the US, also. It's a very high
quality weekend, which you can see from the video archive on pyvideo.org:

http://pyvideo.org/category/12/pyohio-2011
http://pyvideo.org/category/11/pyohio-2010

Anyway, PyOhio just put out its call for proposals, which I'm passing
along to you below:

PyOhio 2012, the fifth annual Python programming conference for Ohio and
the surrounding region, is now accepting proposals!

About PyOhio

PyOhio is one of the largest Python conferences in the midwest, and the
largest entirely free Python conference anywhere. PyOhio 2012 will take
place Saturday-Sunday, July 28-29, 2012 at the Ohio State University in
Columbus, Ohio. A variety of activities are planned, including
tutorials, scheduled talks, Lightning Talks, Open Spaces and Sprints.

Talk Proposals

PyOhio invites all interested people to submit proposals for scheduled
talks, tutorials, and panels. All topics of interest to Python
programmers will be considered.

PyOhio is a great venue to get the word out about your favorite Python
library and how you use it, talk about how Python is used in your
company, or practice your speaking in front of a welcoming audience.

Standard presentation slots will be 40 minutes plus a 10 minute
question-and-answer period. Tutorials may run longer, but should be
structured to be broken across 50 minute slots with a 10 minute break
between.

PyOhio is especially interested in hosting a Beginner’s Track for those
new to Python or new to programming in general. If your proposal would
be suitable for inclusion in a Beginner’s Track, please indicate so.
Organizers will work with speakers and instructors in the Beginner’s
Track to help them coordinate their talks/tutorials into a smooth,
coherent learning curve for new Python users.

PyOhio is also especially interested in talks or panel discussions about
using Python as a core component of your business, or success with using
Python in a traditional corporate IT environment.

How To Submit a Proposal

To ensure that you provide all necessary information, please use the
submission form at the PyOhio web site. If organizing a panel, please
confirm all panelists’ intention to participate before submitting your
proposal.

http://pyohio.org/speaker/

The deadline for submitting a proposal is Friday, June 1st. Accepted
speakers will be notified by June 15th.

You can read more about the conference at http://pyohio.org. If you have
questions about proposals, please email cfp-Ow1jLQs/QBS4UlQgPVntAg< at >public.gmane.org

You can also contact the PyOhio organizers at pyohio-organizers-+ZN9ApsXKcG4UlQgPVntAg< at >public.gmane.org

Recording Rights Release

PyOhio may record presentations for later release over the web.
Presenters will need to sign a release of recording rights to PyOhio;
see http://wiki.python.org/moin/PyOhio/RecordingRelease

April 2012, Project Night

TriZPUG,

Caktus Consulting Group has offered to host a new monthly project
night for TriZPUG, with the inaugural meeting this April 4th. This is
announced on both on the trizpug.org website and meetup.com, which I
want to strongly encourage everyone to use and RSVP with, tho it is
not required.

TriZPUG April 2012 Meeting: Call For Talks

Thanks to Tobias McNulty, the April 26 TriZPUG meeting will be at 7pm at
Caktus Group, 209 Lloyd St, Suite 110, Carrboro:

If you would like to present a main topic at this meeting, you should
definitely notify this email list of your topic as soon as you can
commit, and your name and topic will be up in lights.

If no one claims the podium as the main speaker, we will have lightning
talks as usual.

In any event, we will have lightning talks. If there is a main speaker,
lightning talks will be after the main speaker. You can't stop the
lightning talks. They're like lightning.

Triangle Python User Group

Hey folks,

Thanks to everyone who came out last night and special thanks to everyone
who spoke and presented a little something.

I did want to mention some news that came out of last night's meeting for
those who couldn't make it out. People have often mistaken this group's
name as the Triangle Zope and Plone User Group. This has never been the
case, but nonetheless it has caused some confusion and contributed to
people looking past or dismissing our group. Last night members
overwhelming voted to change our name to TriPython.

We hope that the name change will improve search results, help attract new
participants, and encourage lurkers to come out and talk Python. To that
end, I'ld like to make a call to anyone on the list who would be interested
in participating in a rebranding and messaging workgroup. A name change is
nice and I believe will be beneficial, but I think it's important to also
take this opportunity to re-examine how we present ourselves to the local
community--hackers, hobbyists, professionals, and businesses alike. If
you're interested and more importantly, willing to do some work, drop me an
email and we'll start coordinating these changes. Until we circulate a
transition plan, please continue to use our existing resources, websites,
mailing lists, etc as TriZPUG.

Chris reminded us last night that we're coming up on our ten year
anniversary. Very exciting and I look forward to watching the community
continue to grow.
