<pre>Hi pluggers.

I have a just-arrived, brand spanking new server to play with for the next few days or so. I'm toying with the idea of using RAID 6 on this for storage. I can put 4 disks right now on it during the setup and additional 2 disks later. My question is: when I add the 2 additional disk, is it standard for RAID 6 to redistribute data and parity across the 6 drives? I would want it to, I just want to know if this is automatic. If so, great. If not, I hope there's a simple way (a command or something) to initiate it.

The server is a Supermicro server with an SMC2108 (OEM'd LSI2108) raid controller.

Have a nice long weekend everyone!

Good morning.
Just want to know if anyone of you guys knows a Philippine based SIP
trunk provider? PLDT removed their legacy trunk services and are
offering SIP trunks instead for FEX lines - but with a minimum of 10
channels, it's very expensive!

thanks,
Kenneth

<pre>14Apr2013 (UTC +8)

Anybody observed the same behavior?

I thought I lost it all when my NTFS &amp; XFS partitions couldn't be seen
in my newly installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS amd64 (including Xubuntu) or
Kali Linux amd64 (based on Debian 7) even after I checked,
double-checked, triple-checked, and updated, all required filesystem
drivers and utils.

Acting on a hunch, I re-installed my Ubuntu 10.04 LTS amd64, and I got
*all* my work data back (that's 4x 3TB total!).

It turns out, that the installations of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS amd64
(including Xubuntu) or Kali Linux amd64 (based on Debian 7), CANNOT
read the XFS nor NTFS partitions of my 3TB hard disks.

MS Windows 7 64-bit can read the NTFS partitions though.

A bit off-topic.

I'm going to be buying a specd-out Linux server to handle a few of my mission-critical VMs. Aside from Intel, what's a good brand for SSDs for servers? Is Kingmax any good?

<pre>Hi:

Our web application is running on tomcat 5.5.23 and apache 2.x (on Linux 2.6.18-194.3.1.el5). After 12 hours the application would just halt. The application log and the catalina.out does not indicate any problems (i.e. no exception thrown). JVM is java 1.5.20 (Sun)

I noticed that each time this occur, apache would spawn many child processes. I did an strace and here's what I found

Our application use SiteMinder as authentication mechanism, and SiteMinder would spew logs (on httpd error_log) get trying to get semaphore and SiteMinder agent running.

Any ideas on how should I proceed to troubleshoot? Does anyone encounter this problem before?

Thanks in advance.

Self - service framework or base software

<pre>Hi,

I am thinking of deploying something that the developers I am supporting
can use to perform some basic tasks like getting logs from the server,
uploading files to certain servers in a certain sequence, running some
fixed scripts in certain servers and then returning the result, etc.

Some of the access for the activities are limited to my team because of
certain policies. Is there a software project that I can use and extend to
create a catalogue of services that a user can browse and automatically
request? I don't want to rollout a rough custom solution if there is
already something out there that can provide a better and more organized
work flow.

  Thanks.

ciao!

<pre>Hi List,

Slightly off topic. I am configuring a router to be sent to the Philippines
for a customer. Anybody knows the DNS servers that I can configure on the
router?

Thank you.

Regards,

Mark

<pre>Hello PLUG,

We are about to roll out servers with IPv6 addresses (only) and I am concerned with the readiness of our local telcos. Anyone know the state of IPv6 in the Philippines? Please do share your success and failures.

Thanks,
