ich habe ein Image für meinen Router DG834G mit dem imagebuilder generiert

<pre>Hello,

I met Jacqueline Rahemipour a few weeks ago at the Chemnitzer Linuxtag
and she asked about the freifunk/free wireless community's
participation at the Linuxtag in Berlin. Would be great, if we had
some people who are interested to involve. The event is just after the
Wireless Community Weekend 2012, starting Wednesday May 23 till
Saturday May 26, 2012.

There is space for community members available and the opportunity to
present own projects. Depending on the level of participation of the
community we can showcast freifunk/free wireless projects on a shared
booth or get our own booth. I set up a wiki page. Please add your name
to the list of potential participants and add how long and how you
would like to contribute to this event:
http://wiki.freifunk.net/Linuxtag_2012

Any feedback?

All the best,

Mario

hello and basic question about multi hop bandwidth loss

<pre>dear all,

first of all apologies for addressing this list in English since my
writing skills in German are not good enough, reading is no problem
though so any reply is much appreciated

i'm trying to set up a new network based on the freifunk firmware in
rotterdam, the netherlands and at the moment researching the options and
possibilities.

i have a lot of questions ;) but will start with one.

as to my understanding the bandwidth drops to 10% after several hops,
does this also apply if you connect them with an ethernet cable?

lets say you have a single street, where 0 is a freifunk node and +0 is
a freifunk node with internet access.

what i think usually will happen is as follows:

+0 0 0 0
100% 70% 40% 10%

but..... my thought/question, can you prevent the bandwith loss if you
connect the nodes as follows with a cable

+0-----0------0-------0
100% 100% 100% 100%

this eventually would create a backbone that is not troubled by the
wireless overhead that other nodes not connected by cable could connect
to as well

  0 0 0 0
70% 70% 70% 70%

+0-----0------0-------0
100% 100% 100% 100%

  0 0 0 0
70% 70% 70% 70%

thanks for your time,

Randall

<pre>Hi everyone,

perhaps the HAM, Beacon and Hacks app is interesting for you, because you
could also use it to include freifunk stations into the DB.
http://spaceappschallenge.org/challenge/ham-beacon-hacks/
Hopefully it will be coded during the SpaceApps Challenge of NASA and there
is even an event in Stuttgart, Germany for those of you interested in
coding apps or doing other charity works for science.

best regards,

Andreas

<pre>Hello people,

I recently decided to apply as mentor (unluckily it is hard for me to play the
student this year..), but I already sent an application as student.

Now, must I withdraw my proposal before applying as mentor or can I apply as
both? (of course the organization should then accept only one of the two)

Cheers,

I am Malar Kannan and I am a undergraduate student. I am applying for
gsoc 2012.I am an computer networking enthusiast :) and I wish to
contribute to the batman-adv project. I have made a proposal
http://www.google-melange.com/gsoc/proposal/review/google/gsoc2012/malarkannan/1,in
which I am proposing a project to improve batman-adv and porting ccnx
to openwrt. I've been following the batman-adv mailing list for over a
month and have started reading the code of batman-adv/catwoman. I hope my
contribution will be of value to the community.

Regards,
Malar Kannan

<pre>Hi,
my name is Edo Monticelli, I am a Master's student and I will apply for gsoc.
I have not been involved in this community before, but networking is my research
area and I hope I can learn quickly.

I attach my application (not yet submitted), any suggestion is welcome. I
proposed a project on BATMAN. Unfortunately I don't know very well BATMAN code,
but I hope this will be the occasion to know it better and to start an active
participation.

== Education ==
University of Trento -
I am currently enrolled in the last year of the Master's in Computer Science

I am specializing in networking and distributed systems.
I have a programming experience in C among other languages, I use linux systems
since 8 years. I have a 2 years job experience as a python developer.
I contributed to peerstreamer (peerstreamer.org), as part of an academic
project.

== Project ==
An Improved B.A.T.M.A.N. Broadcast Protocol

I can work on the project part-time (25-30 hours per week) from now until the
beginning of June, then full time (40-50 hours per week).

I can try to understand with the mentor and the batman community which one of the two
proposed approaches (dynamic rebroadcasting/MPR-like solution) will work better
and define the details of the protocol before implementing it.
I will provide a detailed test descriptions and results, along with the
code documentation.
I have great interest in understanding BATMAN internals and in continuing
to work with the community. I am taking into consideration
to include BATMAN in my master's thesis which I am going to start working on after gsoc.

Participate in Google Summer of Code 2012

<pre>Hi!

This year wlan slovenija is again participating in Google Summer of
Code (https://google-melange.appspot.com/). If you are a student and
you search for programming summer work for this summer, you can apply
to work on wlan slovenija's projects and get $5000 for successful
contribution.

wlan slovenija is a open wireless network initiative from Slovenija,
building a common, open and independent network for everybody. It is
participating under Freifunk umbrella so you have to formally apply
there. Prepare proposal of your contribution and submit it until 6th
April. We suggest that you submit the proposal draft immediately and
then work on improving it until the deadline. In this way you will be
in the system soon and will not miss the deadline. Furthermore,
mentors will be able to comment and work with you through the system
on your proposal.

Required knowledge for participation varies and depends on what you
propose, but it is not necessary that your proposals are big and
complex, just propose what you believe that you will manage during the
summer and what would contribute to our projects.

More about all this you can find here:

http://dev.wlan-si.net/wiki/GSoC

Some ideas for proposals:

http://dev.wlan-si.net/wiki/GSoC/Ideas

And of course you can propose also something completely yours.

This is a great chance to learn more about open source, contribute to
it and also earn something along the way!

Community Wireless Networks

<pre>Hi,

I am Naman Muley, a final year undergraduate student at DAIICT, India.

I am attempting to create a community wireless mesh network inside my
institute campus. I wanted some help from freifunk community. I would be
very grateful if some one could answer my following queries and also how
does the freifunk mesh network exist?

I am using OLSR as the routing protocol. 7

1. *IP Address allocation: *Say I started an adhoc network. Others joined
and they received IP by DHCP from me. Now, if I turn off, how will the new
comers get IP addresses?
&gt; During the time I was still in the network, no other node could have
acted as the DHCP server as that would have created IP conflict.
&gt; Only option I see is, someone takes up the DHCP leadership after me.
Say, the network chooses a leader.

&gt; My question is, I read quite a few papers but they don't seem to have
implementations in linux drivers or any other operating systems for that
matter

2. *DHCP and Windows: *One of my friends was running windows and he does
not seem to be able to obtain IP address. The network is visible to him but
the prompt only shows "identifying..". On further plumbing we saw that it
was an IP address problem.

How did you guys manage this? How does the freifunk network work under one
network? and how are the IP addresses allocated?
I might be missing a fundamental thing here. Please pardon my noobness ;)

Thank you so much for your patience.

Yours Networkingly,
Naman

Interest in gsoc projects

<pre>Hi all so this is the email way I have been given to contact freifunk for
participation in gsoc for this summer

So to the community and specifically gsoc mentors alike.
I have come across freifunk and done a little reaserch to what and how
batman debian and adv alike work.

(for community skip down a few paragraphs to questions)

batman-adv is very cool and bravo to those who took part in
design+development that said the link layer is not where I personally have
the most knwoledge about. So my prime interest is in the batman debian.

basically from the gsoc ideas page I have a couple of question im looking
for feedback on.. under the batman debian (pretty sure as layer 3 problems)
there are specific tasks that the organization would like to see done and
although i was planning to propose my own project, some ideas are cool and
probably more inline with what organization needs.

Anyways this are tasks which most interest myself the most

first of are all tasks for one student? as if so might be a bit much for
myself as each seems pretty in depth, but i think would checking of a few
would be more then managable in 480+ hourse of work

QuestionsOGM/NDP Hidden Node Problem Avoidance, OGM/NDP Congestion
Avoidance
for these 2 problems its seems like the simplest solution would be to
implement something similar to tcp congestion control, and tcp timeout
type mechanisms for all packets which are not normally connection oriented.
Is this what you're looking for or am i missing something completely?

this seams interesting but not really sure what it implies
B.A.T.M.A.N. Routing Framework

*Brief description:* Separate B.A.T.M.A.N. routing algorithm from routing
infrastructure in batman-adv.

... first question without ip address at each node how is tcp connections
hanndled from end point in mesh? using sk_buff in layer 2 modules which
pre-rout tcp/ip stack? or again did i misuderstand something?
Improve Broadcast Data Performance

*Brief description:* Optimize the flooding of broadcast data to reduce
overhead and increase its packet delivery ratio.

need some more research into whats wrong with implementing same as how udp
and other work in batman (terms of forwarding) but seems like their is a
multitude of ways to solve this problem and ensure each node gets packets

also for mentors :

have some experience writing network linux kernel modules and looking for
more as i have enjoyed the experience so far

sorry for the greenness

I'm currently studing wireless communications for my graduate program. I'm
studing about wireless mobility adhoc network. I'm really interested to
make a software similar to apple AirDrop but with more features. Please
tell me how can I be a participant under your project. I also have a small
question. Since I don't know German, I used google translator to translate
your website. Tell me what is freifunk. Is it a library or a collection of
libraries and platforms? Is it an application or collection of
applications? Thank you!

I was interested in working on some of the projects for upcoming
Google Summer of Code 2012. I wanted to know if it was possible to
share more details like expectations from the project, the
deliverables etc beforehand with me. This is so that I can prepare
myself better before actually applying for the project. I am familiar
with computer networks and am currently pursuing an advanced course in
sensor networks . Programming skills are also apt per the requirement
.

<pre>Hi there freifunkers!
Finally, I have subscribed to this list and this is my little presentation:

My name is Pablo, I'm a Spanish guy involved in free software since some
years ago and some other projects like the Guifi.net network since two
years ago. I'm interested in promoting a free network in my city and
also developing useful tools to do it faster and easily :)

I came to this list because I'm interested in participating in Google
Summer of Code. At the beginning I planned to do it with the
Guifi.net Foundation and I wanted to get in touch with you to know your
ideas, suggestions, comments... and get your feedback, that would be
very useful to me.

But...
two days ago we discovered that Guifi.net Foundation is not between the
chosen organizations.

My proposal is developing a desktop application to read CNML files and
possibly other formats containing information about free network. You
can read about it here:
http://es.wiki.guifi.net/wiki/Usuario:Pablog/GSoC2012/CNML_Explorer

I would like to know what you think about it.
If you like it I would still like to develop it, maybe under the
Freifunk umbrella, as this project is not just related to Guifi.net
network, but with free networks in general ;)

So please, let me know what you think if you read my proposal.
Thanks in advance!

Cheers to everybody in this list,
Pablo.

<pre>hi

I'm very interested in "port OLSR to Windows with IPv6 support" topic in
http://wiki.freifunk.net/Ideas. i think i can really support to complete
this project as a gsoc participant. I have good knowledge an experience
with IPv6 by implementing NAT64 and ISATAP and studying routing algorithms
and networking theory. I have done lots of things using C language through
my first semester and i think i am a best developer using C. I have made a
Network Tank game using XNA4 and i have good experience with sockets. As a
Undergraduate of University of Moratuwa Department of Computer Science and
Engineering I have good knowledge in TCP/IP.
According to above reasons i think I'm the best person to support this
project.

Freifunk< at >Sigint 2012

<pre>Hallo zusammen,

vom 18.5.

&lt;--
Interessante Themen wären z.B. imho:
* Die Freifunk-Landschaft in Deutschland und weltweit. (Hier könnten sich
bspw. verschiedene Communities kurz vorstellen)

Also - was meint Ihr?
Alles Gute
Jan
