GUI tool to show logged in users, copy/paste not working

<pre>Hi VNC list!

TeamViewer includes a little desktop app that shows all users currently
logged onto a session. Is there no such thing for vncserver when running
under X11? Seeing as we're running KDE currently on our Ubuntu 12.04
running vnc4server a plasmoid that shows logged in VNC users + their IPs
would be ideal. If no such app exists, what is the best way to check for
logged in VNC users on a vnc4server via the terminal?

We are accessing our vnc server using RealVNC viewer, mainly under 64-bit
Windows 7 but copy/paste doesn't seem to work - why not? I thought VNC
supported copy/paste? Are there any settings I should check on the server
or clients to enable this?

Thanks for your help!

Dan

<pre>Hello,

Can anyone tell me if RealVNC can be used with a screenreader like JAWS, WindowEyes, or NVDA?

I need to be able to access a variety of windows and linux based hosts remotely, and in the past I had heard that VNC was not a workable solution with any of these screenreaders.

Has anything changed to make any of these work together?

<pre>I've seen some varying comments on the list with regards to my issue, but
none of them seem to directly apply. I had been using version 4.6.1 of the
enterprise viewer on a Windows machine. When I would start up a fullscreen
viewer, it would cover everything including the Windows taskbar. This is
the behavior that I prefer.

Today I switched to a different Windows machine and when I run the
fullscreen viewer (same version), the Windows taskbar refuses to go away.
I tried upgrading Real VNC to version 5.0.5, but that did not change the
behavior.

First off, do other people experience the "fullscreen covers everything
right away" behavior? And if so, did you have to do anything to get it
that way? Secondly, I've seen some mention of clicking on the taskbar and
then back in the viewer to get rid of the taskbar. I've tried this, but
the taskbar remains. Is anyone aware of any other workarounds to get rid
of the taskbar?

Thanks,
Todd

So I just bought RealVNC personal edition, and connection is fine. My problem is that when I copy a file from the host server, and then paste the file in a client directory, the file size is a fraction of the original size. if I copy 3 minute mp3, I get 4 seconds of playback. if I copy an 800 kb image, it only renders pixels for the top 30 rows. Why is only a fraction of the data copied to the clipboard? The manual doesn't address this.
Thanks!

Is version 4.1.3 of the free edition of RealVNC incompatible with
the Enterprise edition (4.6.1, I believe)? We have a customer
running the Enterprise edition on a machine which we would like to
be able to reach, but we keep getting the "10060" error message. I
have never tried to connect to the Enterprise edition before, so I
didn't expect this. Has the protocol changed, or is the connection
just being refused?

Thx, Phil Long

vnc viewers on Android

<pre>I have a Kindle Fire with CyanogenMod (Android version 4.2.1) and a
Saumsung/Google Nexus 4 also running Android 4.2.1. It looks like I can
get a terminal and bash running easily enough. I think I get ssh running
in bash, but not sure yet about port forwarding.

I see that the Google Play store has an android-vnc-viewer (free) and a
RealVNC viewer ($9.99). The former is produced by "androidVNC team +
antlersoft" and the latter by RealVNC Limited.

I would be very happy to send $10 to the RealVNC folks after all they've
done for me. I mean 15 years of using the free version, and relying on
their help on this list, I've really ripped them off! It's the least I
could do in return.

Has anyone been using either/both of these Android-based VNC viewers? I
especially want to be able to run it in an ssh tunnel -- have any of you
done that on Android?

Mike

thinking about a Chromebook as another potential option for connecting to

Real VNC.

Do any of you have experience with a VNC viewer on Chrome OS, especially

Is there any plan to develop a Real VNC (Enterprise or Free) for Chrome

Thanks in advance.

Is this problem is known? Are there any solution for this?

<pre>
Hello everyone,
A few months ago I started using VNC in order to access my office computer from my Iphone 4. Since I have started using it, I have noticed that at times my command prompt opens up all of a sudden and it starts executing some commands that I have not entered. Also, today I noticed another peculiar occurrence that drove me to seek for help: Last night I accessed my computer though VNC, after using it, I closed the ios app and went to sleep, and today morning when I started using my office computer, I accidentally pressed ctrl+v instead of ctrl+c while trying to copy some text and what I noticed was that a message I had sent on my phone a few days ago appeared on screen!
I was taken aback as to how a message sent on my phone found its way onto my computer's copy paste buffer. Immediately I cleared the buffer and tested to see if VNC is the problem. I accessed my computer through the VNC app on my phone and disconnected. When I checked the buffer again by typing "clipbrd" in the command prompt, it contained a message that I had sent on my phone earlier that day!
What the heck is going on?? Is it bug in VNC?? Has my system been comprimised? I don't understand... Can anyone tell me how to stop this!!
Note, I have paid for the app in my phone and runs the latest ios, and on my system the VNC server is free, hence it only supports unencrypted communication. My ESET smart security does not register any form of malware and is updated with the latest signature.
Please, can anyone tell me what to do?
Thanks in advance and regards,
Weary Traveller

<pre>Hi all,

Recently we have been seeing a lot of vnc E4.6.0 crashes on our system and on debug we see that all the vnc sessions crash with segfault at same rip.

kernel: Xvnc-core[10007]: segfault at 0000000000000000 rip 0000000000550279 rsp 00007fffffffd110 error 4

And upon debugging about the RIP, we found this instruction at which vnc is crashing

Any comments/thoughts on what this function might be doing, and the specific point of crash. This crash is happening every time at the same place.

Thanks

VNC viewer in fullscreen with 3 monitors

<pre>Hi,

I have a 3 monitor set-up on a windows 7 machine. I would like to set
it up such that vnc viewer would be in fullscreen mode on 2 monitors.
I would like to use the 3rd monitor for all the windows applications
(outlook, browser etc.). Is this possible?

thanks,
Osho

Multi-monitor full screen with USB DisplayLink monitors?

<pre>Based on the response to a question on StackOverflow (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/9602985/vnc-viewer-with-multiple-monitors) I am investigating switching to RealVNC from TightVNC as my viewer. I have verified that the current RealVNC viewer can connect to my workstation (the latest version of TightVNC does not!?!?!). However, my multi-monitor setup is using two USB DisplayLink connectors to attach a pair of 22" monitors to my laptop. I have a similarly matching pair of monitors on my workstation and would like to see the whole desktop at one time.

I can stretch the viewer window across the two monitors but because of the MS Windows title bar on the window, I lose that much height which is equivalent to the toolbars on the top and bottom of the workstation desktop. In full screen mode, I can get the full height, but obviously only one monitor's width.

I would like to know if anyone has attempted the multi-monitor full screen mode with USB DisplayLink connections in the RealVNC Personal Edition. Does it work? Is there any additional configuration required?

Thanks!
.Tim

Windows 7 laptop will not accept connection

<pre>I have an HP desktop running Windows 7 Home Premium. I have the VNC Viewer
installed on it. I have a Compaq laptop running Windows XP on which I have
the VNC Server installed. I am able to connect from the HP to the laptop
without a problem. I purchased a Toshiba laptop running Windows 7 Home
Premium. I installed VNC Server on it. Every time I try to connect from the
desktop to the Toshiba I get a "connection was reset by peer" error. I
checked that the configuration on the Toshiba matches the one on the Compaq.
I checked to see that port 5900 on the Toshiba is not in use by another
service.

Can anyone help me?

John Scholl
