<pre>Hello,
i have just finished testing the vmware view 5.2 (2.0) Horizon Client on TS5.1 with PCOIP and USB Support..
Someone interested in testing ?

The 2.0 Client has alls things integrated in the debian package, just the start script does the magic. It needs 2 Services started in the Background. i think.

i had a usb flash drive mounted into the vdi and it was working. But it needs for sure more tests.

Next step to troubleshoot kernel module orXorg driver problem?

<pre>Hi All,

What is the next troubleshooting step when I get this error "The system was not able to go graphical. This could indicate a problem with missing kernel modules or Xorg drivers"?

Here is what I've done so far.

1. Using the latest 5.1 build environment

2. Enabled all Xorg modules in the build.conf

3. Set the bootverbosity to 60 which should show init, kernel, module, and package messages (a lot of stuff scrolls by on the screen but nothing catches my eye)

4. Used the command "./build -allmodules -autodl -license ACCEPT" to build my images

5. Enabling as many other modules and packages as seemed useful

6. Checked the video card. The problematic class of machine is an HP workstation with an NVIDIA card that was added to the Linux NVIDIA driver back in 2006.

Also, the liveCD version of TS works fine on these machines.

What should my next step be, is there any way to see what hardware it is failing on?

Thanks,

-greg

Is the new vmview client being added tothinstation?

<pre>Hi All,

We have started a quest to find a network bootable thinclient and have landed here at thinstation. Our goal is to end up with a thin client solution that supports PCOIP and is able to utilize our old PC's such that they can be set to boot from the network and then (in theory at least) they will not need to be touched again. All software updates/patches etc. can be done on the network centrally. My point in giving you the back story is simple to say that we are interested thinstation but need it with PCOIP support.

I saw some posts on this mailing list in the archives that discussed various users building their own packages/images with PCOIP VMWare View Client support and am willing to head down this route if necessary, though I'm a bit intimidated by process. I also see from the vmware web site that they've released the client as open source software:

https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/details?downloadGroup=VIEWCLIENTS_OSL_200&amp;productId=331

I am new to thinstation and linux boot images in general and have a few questions that I'm hoping someone here would be gracious enough to answer for me.

1. It looks like TS went from 2.x to 5.x in its versioning, why the jump in version numbers?

2. If my understanding that the vmware view linux client is now open sourced is there any plan to integrate it into the official TS image?

3. If I was to attempt to add this to the image would there be interest in providing it for the official build?

4. Would doing so be considered adding a 'package' to TS or something else, specifically which part of the wiki should I be looking at?

Thanks in advance for the help,

Greg Frater

i am trying to setup some TS units with printer redirection in
freerdp. i am trying to redirect a network printer. i am using ts 5.1
and freerdp 1.0.1. as far as i can understand, freerdp needs cups to
support printer redirection. i have cretaed a cups TS package using
'repackage' on the crux cups port. the cups package appears to be
working, i can create network printers and successfully print to them
via TS. however, redirecting in a freerdp session is not working. i am
using
xfreerdp -d domain -u user -p password --ignore-certificate --plugin
rdpdr --data printer:test -- termserver
i connect to term server, see
registered device #1: PRN1 (type=4, id=1)
in freerdp console, but no redirected printers created on term server.

thanks,

chris

<pre>Developers,

I am ready to freeze this thing and start an actual release process. I will not be adding any new features or packages over the next month or so. I would appreciate submissions of outstanding issues and code fixes to finish up the 5.1 series and call it good. Next we will work on 5.2 or 6.0. The major plans that I have envisioned for the next series include an all new glibc, updated packages all around, gtk3 support and the gnome mail client and taking the build version out of the build path, so that we can change version numbers more readily. But before breaking ground on new stuff, I would like to finish off the 5.1 series with some spit and polish. Please branch the repo at git hub, push your fixes and submit your merge requests. I really appreciate all your support.

Best,

Audio init script and "Digital" amplifiersfor recording audio

<pre>Don, I saw your latest patches on the audio init script which look great.

One section you commented out was the 1-second arecord command. I get
that it slows down boot, but in my case, 2 out of 3 laptops I've
tested thinstation on have this issue. ALSA uses a "digital"
amplifier for the microphone which is recommended to be set around
50%. For me, my microphones don't work without it being at least at
50%.

The catch is, ALSA doesn't create the digital amplifier until the
first recording. So when the audio init script kicks in, it doesn't
detect or set the digital amplifier volume because it doesn't exist.
Then when I go to use the microphone, expecting the volume to be set
to MIC_LEVEL, it's not and I have to manually go into alsamixer
(potentially instructing users to do this too.)

Here's some sample output from the console:
ts_000325272fd9:~# amixer | grep Digital
Items: 'Digital Playback' 'Analog Mux 1' 'Analog Mux 2'
  Item0: 'Digital Playback'
ts_000325272fd9:~# arecord -d 1 -N &gt; /dev/null
Recording WAVE 'stdin' : Unsigned 8 bit, Rate 8000 Hz, Mono
ts_000325272fd9:~# amixer | grep Digital
Items: 'Digital Playback' 'Analog Mux 1' 'Analog Mux 2'
  Item0: 'Digital Playback'
Simple mixer control 'Digital',0
ts_000325272fd9:~# lspci | grep Audio
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio
Controller (rev 04)

See the 2nd paragraph under "Capture Problems" -
http://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/sound/alsa/HD-Audio.txt
Maybe we detect for intel audio devices and if we find them, then do
the arecord ? Or is there another way to "force" alsa to create the
device without actually recording?

Thanks,
Matt

O.k. I have mirrored the repo over to github

Project Thinstation (of cource). You guys can now fork to your hearts content and of course send me pull requests. :)
I'm not really sure what to do about sourceforge. I hate the new layout and now there are two repos there, so I have to push commits to three places. lame.

Hi &lt; at &gt;all.. Me too..

I would also like to contribute some things if possible..
- some machine profiles
- some small packages
- some logic if possible..
- some documentations
- take care about the vmware viewpcoip package
and so on

For that i would also like to start an discussion:

Use github instead of sourceforge.. only for the repository..

github makes it possible to use those pull requests , and sourceforge not..

it´s a way where people can supply patches and submit them for discussion and after aprovement, it gets commited by the "master" users/devs...it has a clean user interface and it´s smart.

i followed this now for some time in the xbmc project and it´s looking good..
there is also a way to mirror the git from sourceforge to github for some migration time..

what are the opinions of the other devs here ?

bye

Not all done right now,

just want to help mantaining the distro.

I have a large experience with Linux and already know something about to configure, compiling, create packages etc into TS due to some work I did on my job at Mandriva Linux.

Any thing that you'd recomend to get started?

Thanks for the reply.

<pre>Hi,

Ref Thinstation 5.1

I am using xfreerdp plugins to redirect sound &amp; mic . In old version (0.9)
there were plugins drdynvc.so which is required for mic redirection. In new
version 1.1.0 these plugins is missing due to which mic redirection is not
working. Also there were several other plugins like disk, parallel, serial
in 0.9 version which are missing in new version.

How to get this plugins in xfreerdp ver 1.1

Ravi.

external usb disk

<pre>Hello,

When I plug in an external WD MyPassport USB disk, it is mounted under
/mnt/disc, insted of $USB_MOUNT_DIR (/mnt/usbdevice), as I would expect.
This happens because it's being identified as a 'ata' ID_BUS instead of
'usb'. As a result, the udev scsi.sh assumes it's an internal disk, and
mounts it under /mnt/disc.

# cat /var/log/scsi
1
/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:15.2/0000:04:00.0/usb1/1-1/1-1:1.0/host7/target7:0:0/7:0:0:0/block/sda/sda1
2 add
3 ata
4 ntfs

I think scsi.sh behavior is correct, the problem lies in the ID_BUS
identification that should be 'usb', instead of 'ata'. Is it possible to
change this id, or should I adapt scsi.sh based on $DEVPATH?

Thanks,
Elio Coutinho

Hi,

I have a requirement to provide VT320 terminal emulation based thin clients.
These thin clients will be connected to Unix/Linux Servers and will provide
text based dumb terminals. Can I have these VT320 emulation in thinstation.

If not can anyone suggest suitable mini Linux distro which can provide such
terminal emulation.

<pre>
Folks,

The current HP terminal I'm using only has 112mb of usable RAM. I know, I
know, RAM is cheap - but Thinstation has traditionally worked very well with
these devices. I know there's a lot of people using Thinstation on these
types of boxes, across hundreds of 'em per site.

Thinstation struggles with this over PXE (with a few Xorg drivers you end up
with 2mb of free RAM on boot!), so I'm trying to find ways to make things
thinner.

I've already removed nscd by commenting it out, which is a massive help.

Does anybody have any help on:

- Stopping xinetd (don't need it). Ideally, exclude files from image too.
- Stopping rngd (don't need), remove from image too.
- Stopping Xdialog from including in build (quite a lot of dependencies).

If I can prove these work stable, I am happy to look into modifications for
making them optional for all.

Also, any other suggestions people can give on tightening the base build up
would be welcome to. 2mb of free RAM doesn't work very well.

Thanks!

Kevin
